Sonic games have never been set on Mobius. It was entirely a SATAM/comic creation
...and Eggman WAS the original title assigned to the doctor. Robotnik was a name created for European and American audiences. They eventually decided to scrap that and use the original name worldwide with Sonic Adventure.

And the Sonic universe was pretty much the better for this creation.
Why do you say that? The best games in the series had nothing to do with such a planet.

I think Sonic's in Brawl because Sega was all like, "Oh hey third-party characters in Smash Bros., Nintendo we'll let you put Sonic in," and Nintendo was all, "Sweet, fans will love it."
.

Snake is in Brawl and I doubt the Wii is going to get a port of MGS4.

Because the places of the first 3(4) Sonic games were set in such a highly stylized setting that they would have been nigh unrecognizable as Earth regardless (never mind the existence of places such as Angel Island). Hence 'Mobius' made the story (and I'm not sure this is the correct word to use) more believable, and while I'm at it, I just get the feeling that it made the creators less likely to take the creation seriously.

His official name is still Robotnik, though. According to the canon, Eggman is a nickname Sonic game him that stuck.

WOW.... So the trailer says the game is for the PS3/360, and not PS3/360/Wii!

So though Sonic Wii outsold both Sonic PS3 & 360, and Nintendo allowed Sega's mascot to be in what will be one of the biggest games ever on the Wii (Super Smash Bros Brawl), Sega decide to screw Nintendo & stick Sonic on the PS3 & 360.

If I were Nintendo, I would be pissed & feeling used! What was the use of putting Sonic in Smash, if Sega were really planning to release their Sonic game on the two consoles other than the Wii???

Strange....sneaky...and once again, a stupid business decision!

So because Sonic was in Brawl, Sega has to release every single Sonic game ever made on a Nintendo console from now on?

*waits for MGS4 Wii Edition*

Which trailer are you talking about? I've only seen one trailer which has not announced any platforms this game is releasing on...

Well, it might be coming to Wii, but the footage we saw is clearly taken from a build of the game in development for either 360 or PS3. The Wii version would look rather different.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
:lol yea ok 'accidentally' leaked

anyway, looks surprisingly good and I really like the art style.

Sonic in Brawl is awesome, so lets not blow it now Sega

nah dude just look at the flowers and trees they just have to uncheck the box next to "next-gen shaders" and move some sliders down on "lighting" and the game will be wii-quality.

Snake is in Brawl because Sakurai and Kojima are buddies.
Which proves my point – the third party characters are in Brawl for fanfare, not for marketing of said third party franchises. Could it be an underlying benefit? Sure, but I doubt Nintendo is going to feel betrayed not having SU on the Wii.

Don't know what to think of werewolf Sonic yet, but I like what I see in those screens.

That city reminds me of the Water Palace Zone in Sonic Rush, that's a good thing.

I still feel like it's a stab in the back to people who exclusively own Wiis. Like Kojima just wanted to say "hey, look at what you won't be getting on Wii and have never really gotten on any Nintendo system! I like to talk about how great Wii is but then do nothing at all for it!"

I don't feel that way. Kojima isn't obligated to put anything on the Wii just because Snake is in SSBB. Its just a popular character making it into a popular game, nothing more or less than that.

*edit*

There aren't enough facepalm.jpgs on earth to describe my feelings about the stupidity in this thread.

You know... I wasn't following this game, but every time I see a screenshot a little bit of the dreamcast fanboy inside me cheers.

Finally got around to watching the trailer and uhhhh...no...not excited.

I don't care if it is 2.5D when it looks like as usual Sonic Team has to emphasize speed over everything else.

As I mentioned in the other thread what made the earlier Sonic games work is that while Sonic was fast he was like an F1 race-car in a Suburb or something. While a slower game character would have to pace him or herself and make every jump slowly Sonic could rush by and clear that jump and maybe the next couple jumps in a single leap.

It's fun, though it suffers from a lot of really cheap bottomless pits. Just expect a game more like Advance 2 and less like the originals.

Yes, but why the hell is Sonic in Smash Brawl for, if Sonic's next game won't be on the Wii???

I'm sure Nintendo assumed the next Sonic would be coming to Wii also and not just PS3/360, but it looks like Sega have screwed them.

EDIT: Oh OK, thanks for that response!:D

Sega got to use Mario for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and Nintendo got to use Sonic for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Sega gets their game to actually sell and Nintendo keeps fans a little happier and gets maybe more sales.

Huh. I have to say that's the first time I've heard someone complain the newer sonic games emphasize speed too much.

Yeah even though Rush kinda emphasis speed, you do have to stop and take your time during a few platforming sections during the game. That and its not always smart to head into a ramp at full speed all the time.

Also the music is JGR style so be ready for that. Might take a bit to get used to.

According to 1up it's a 2.5D game which could mean big things for our spiky haired friend. I'm cautiously optimistic...

Yeah we knew it was 2.5D from the first leaked trailer. And that it was somewhat similar to Sonic Rush. Thats why everyone got all excited. Hell if they just "copy and paste" the same gameplay stage styles and boss styles from Rush/Rush Adventure i'd be happy.

Teknoman and anyone else who has played the Rush games, which do you prefer? I'm thinking about finally getting one of them. I think I could recall a few people saying that Rush Adventure has better level design, but I really loath tropical themes, and I'm disinclined to play through a Sonic game that has 3D segments, unless they actually play well.

Well Sonic Rush seems better than Rush adventure music wise, and in stage diversity it beats out Rush Adventure. But when it comes to boss battles Rush Adventure has the first game beat. Also there arent as many pitfalls in the game...but that seems to be an effect of the increased focus on speed.

Both are great games, however I like the first one since it has stages similar to the "usual Sonic style". You know, Grassy hill first stage, water ruin stage, highly technological stage, Desert'ish ruin stage, Casino/Carnival stage, etc.

SRA's stages aren't any more tropical than the usual Sonic game, and it has some of the freshest zone themes the series has seen in a while. The rest of the game is kind of tropical, but it's more about sailing than bamboo and coconuts. And the new characters are all Australian.

It's level design is better than Rush's, if only because when you fall, you're more likely to land on another path instead of in a bottomless pit. The sailing segments are fairly frequent, but they play well. The 3D ones are similar to the classic halfpipe special stages, and the other two are more like a light gun game and Elite Beat Agents. Once you unlock everything, you'll never have to play any of them again.

They're both fun games, but I preferred SRA. Mostly because cheap bottomless pits are one of my most hated level design features.

Blah, I hope it isn't like the Rush games, they bore the hell out of me, relatively speaking anyway. Too much speed and "hold right", not enough Sonic platforming.

But yeah, I've been jisming for a while over this stuff. I have an insane amount of faith in Sega, much moreso than your average person, so I'm pretty excited about this.

The wii reminds me of the Dreamcast verison, and the HD systems reminds me of the x-box version in style and colors.

But that's not a bad thing. That's not a bad thing at all. Sonic Rush and especially Sonic Rush Adventure are the two strongest entries the franchise has seen since the 16bit era.

Well, actually, if you look at the designs of the areas, I believe that it exactly what they've done. The Wii version is based on the DC game while the HD version is based upon the XBOX game. It's more than the color scheme that varies. Also notice, unlike the DC version, the shadows do not actually cast themselves on moving objects.

What I don't understand about that game is why it does not run at 60 fps. I mean, Virtua Tennis 3 ran in 1080p on both systems and still held 60 fps. Why does this 720p game run at 30 fps with slowdown (or 480p at 30 fps with slowdown for the Wii)?! Crap coding.

no slowdown on ps3 - and btw. sumo digital arent coding gods - outrun 2 port has showed their weakness!
