What does Sony have to do with my post lol? I don't care about Sony here.

I'm talking about X1X here. The game runs at dynamic 4K on X1X does it not?

"b...bu....bu...but Sony too!!" does nothing to change the fact it's running at dynamic 4K compared to the PC version that runs at native 4K.

In this advert sony use "4k gaming" which is pretty shady considering only a handful of titles are 4k and are more true description would be "2k gaming"

Yes, a 500,- machine that came out a year later, can produce better graphics. Why and how is this shocking? Because we're all acting like it is. Especially given the fact we have to use magnifying glasses to even spot the differences in a lot of games (which are only noticable by people who are really into games and graphics). I'm not trying to downplay the X here, because it definitely is a beautiful machine (although I find it to expensive for the differences over my Pro on a 1080p set, which I still own), but some people seem to forget what gaming is all about and the fact that PS4 still has exclusives that look better on the base hardware than MS exclusives look on the X, makes the whole thing more laughable.

Just like the OG PS4 is hardly noticable better over the X1(S). So yeah, I don't see an impressive leap in the video posted in this thread. It just a higher dynamic res, which is the least you can expect from the X1X (personally, I find the differences until now actually pretty dissapointing, X was on my list because I hoped for 30fps multiplats being able to run at 60fps, but that''s not gonna happen, so it seems). It's not 120fps, X does not feature a triple amount of onscreen NPC's, it does not have better AI or bigger maps. It's just a 60fps across all consoles with the only difference being the res, just like games that are 30fps.

Hell, the only thing I am currently playing is Skyrim in VR and to be honest, it absolutely looks like a big pile of shit graphically. It doesn't even feature proper surround sound. I know it looks much better on a TV, but I would never be able to get into this game in 2D, because I would find it just as boring as setting up a spreadsheet in Excel. But VR makes al those cons fade away because of the awesome immersion it gives me and it even makes the gameplay fun. Sitting on a bench watching NPC's do their thing is even fun, you know?

So sure, you go ahead counting pixels, while other people are able to actually enjoy their games for what they are.

Well said, the salt is coming from the XBOX camp with a 4 year grudge.

And that's what I was saying, it has hardware to CB and still dev just increase resolution and ship it out. The same will happen to XB1X. Game were supposed to get 4K textures and now less and less games are supporting it. After whatever deal MS has with developers for the launch, we'll see what kind of support it receives.

It stands to reason that if said games are also available on PC, the X1X will use and include the highest quality textures. I don't see why this would change. It's not a matter of developers just simply not doing the work.. the work is done. It's about having the memory to do it.

Lots of games are using 4k assets.Cant wait to see Witcher 3 ;) Next year it'll be more prevalent as devs now know what to develop for. Support on the X is a lot more seen than pro has the past year

What specifically is your development team doing to enhance The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Xbox One X?

With the additional power of the Xbox One X, we are able to deliver The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 4K, while providing numerous visual tweaks such as higher-quality shadows, ambient occlusion & texture filtering, as well as higher resolution textures, and an all-around performance boost.

Read more at https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2017/11/...ve6HQGy7yqv.99

cant wait for this to hit.

XboneX obviously as a newer console has more power than e PS4 PRO the same way PS5 will be on a few years ...the cycle will never end and basically has been here since de 16 bits era.

But XboneX is a premium console , it won't hurt Sony sales specially with the bundles they have at this moment. Also XboneX from my point of view is just eating XboneS market.

Finally do not find an impressive gap between PRO and XboneX , maybe later this year when Microsoft releases something new we could something impressive. But currently games look similar to the uneducated eye. XboneX is a great emulation machine but just this characteristic won't move sales on the long run.

Also, I just wanna say that the “diminishing return” talk is more valid than people want to admit.

It doesn’t completely absolve MS for having a clear hardware advantage right now, but diminishing returns DO exist at this level of fidelity.

If we are strictly talking resolution, does 2160p look better than 1440p? Of course it does. But the difference isn’t as noticeable as the leap from 720p to 1080p in my opinion.

On Destiny 2 I notice a huge boost in image quality when I go from 100 to 125 percent resolution scale (super sampling). The difference between 125 and 150 is much less apparent to me especially in contrast to the performance hit between 125 and 150.

Don’t take this the wrong way. This game clearly looks better than the Pro version. For sure. No doubt about it. But people are touting 100 percent more pixels as “game looks twice as good” and that just is true. Diminishing returns exist and at this level we are at the point of needing 300 percent zoom to see differences in many cases.

Now, that’s just strictly talking resolution. The games on X that use increased graphical effects and true 4k assets like Gears 4 and Forza, those really show the hardware superiority. There’s a lot more to what the X can do, and should do, than just resolution

It's not your opinion, it's a fact. The eye sees a huge difference between say 720p and 1080p, but it's really harder to differentiate between 1440p and 4K, and even a lot harder between 4K and 8K. Unfortunately, no amount of fanboyism will change our eyes.

It's BS and is always BS, we heard the same crap in the 720P days when 1080P TV's started rolling out. Even before that we kept hearing people blabbling about that when DVD's came out. Some people seem to take more time adjusting to the experience new technology brings so for a short time they throw around "diminishing returns" but are almost always shown to be fools later on when more people experience the new tech and get used to the clear differences it offers.

Also in these cases you aren't going to see all the differences offered on a low bit rate non HDR youtube feed. The gaming media's video distribution chain has not caught up to the experience people see in their own homes on their own 4K HDR TV's.

It is PURELY subjective and always thrown around by the fanbase with he weaker hardware. Total bullshit used to justify Sony's weaker console.

You want the console that plays games better? You get an X, if you want to convince yourself that a weaker console is as good? You throw around "dimishing returns" to comfort yourself.

Of course it's a scientific fact. Our eyes see the bigger things better. Including bigger pixels.

For the same screen size, pixels get smaller and smaller when resolution increases, so you can't see them as well as before. It's hardly rocket science really...

I have a recent PC and I play on the same screen switching between consoles and PC, you hardly can see the difference anymore. Unlike most people here I know what I'm talking about, I have both a PC and consoles.

"diminishing returns"

It's diminishing returns because the physical size of the screen doesn't change. Perfect example of this is phone screens. After a certain PPI, the vast majority of people cant tell if the resolution is higher.

Are you seriously using a smartphones screen size as an example of diminishing returns? Jesus Christ...

I'm bored at work here so allow me to write a bunch of shit :P

There is most certainly a difference between native 4K and, say, QHD or checkerboard/upscaled resolution. This is proven in every single F2F comparison. To keep screaming "diminishing returns" sounds like an attempt at downplaying the facts. You talk about Xbox console warriors because of a few numbskulls (that are prevalent in both sides, FYI, if you can remove your tinted shades for a minute to realize this) but the fact is that for years and years, 900p vs 1080p was a massive thing on internet forums everywhere and it even seeped into real life.

I can never forget back when I worked retail I had multiple customers who simply assumed PS4 was better than Xbox because Xbox had "Wii-like bad graphics," and it was true to them because their family/friends said it or they read how bad the graphics were on the internet. I remember in particular these parents that were straight flabbergasted when they viewed both our Xbox and PS4 demo kiosks; they had assumed the Xbox wasn't even HD or something. This is how bad the FUD and anti-Xbox propaganda went, and now you have a bigger difference, 4GB extra ram (actuslly 5GB more usable ram) downsampling, supersampling, mandatory 16x AF, and shit, even a faster HDD, and people are croaking about diminishing returns?

The fact is that no matter what, fanboys from both sides will change their narrative upon the situation (these things happened almost universally):

Last gen Xbox fanboys croaked about Halo sales while PS fanboys bragged that ratings mattered more and Uncharted 2 was higher rated.

Forza 3 took the racing genre by storm, and unexpectedly so, and PS fanboys, feeling threatened, whined that ratings don't matter because GT sales so much more (despite being in the market like a decade without competition, but no, this fact is irrelevant somehow). Forza has continued to be the premier higher rated and more consistent franchise and is consistently declared so by many review outlets and racing outlets, but now ratings don't matter, because Sony as a corporate entity sales more copies to consumers.

Microsoft was committing sin by charging for online, despite having a better online service (now it is debatable but I'm talking 360 days here). For years this was a very pronounced argument in console wars everywhere. Sony takes advantage of the Xbox One launch blunder (Mattrick was terrible, but alas) and quietly slips in that PS4 has paid online (rewatch that E3 if you want to laugh at how subtle they did this) and after a few days not a peep is uttered. Its simply accepted and the few arguments that stem from it would be that Microsoft did it first.

This entire 4 year generation was about graphics and power. So much revisionist history trying to be rewritten here when I can completely ether some of you ignorant fanboys by simply posting links to many topics even from NeoGAF itself. Exclusives started to be in the conversation as well the past few years but the main argument was always resolution and graphics. Now, even better and more noticeable graphical differences (compared to 900 upscaled vs 1080 for example) are irrelevant, and massive salt is consistently being thrown.

In case you dont know where I'm getting at, this is going to continue forever. Its kinda sad, too because PlayStation has been out almost a decade longer than Xbox but Xbox is still seen as a massive threat to these fanboys when in reality Microsoft shouldn't have been able to get to close to the competition. PS3 really fucked everything up for Sony, and the same thing happened with launch Xbox One.

LG did research on this. According to their research, at a distance of 20 - 25 cm, the maximum ppi that people in their 20s - 30s could recognize is 500 - 550 ppi.
