So I've had a number of conversations with people I work with in IT lately about getting an Xbox One X, and all of them have the same question:
What's an Xbox One X?
With less than 3 weeks til launch, it feels like people don't even know this thing exists.

I guess you guys are right. It just feels weirdly limiting for MS, the audience they're targeting feels like existing Xbox One owners - when the whole point one Project Scorpio originally was to break out of that and the narrative they weren't as powerful (i.e. gain a bigger audience).

Same happened with the PS4 Pro and the Wii U
They got an incredible box with no games. Where are those third parties at?
I'm not surprised by the lack of buzz.

To be fair, I was explaining to people what a Wii U was two years after it came out.
What communication? Even the information targeting the die hards is severely lacking.

no games
It's launching in less than 3 weeks? Even I din't know that, and I spend far too much time reading about games.
Nintendo seem to get by OK.
It's 2017 and people still unironically say this. Amazing.
You do know it gets every western multiplat right? You know most of the games you'll play on everything else this holiday. They got an incredible box with no games. Where are those third parties at?

The first adopters are going to be people that actually know what t is. If they are asking that question it's likely not for themSo I've had a number of conversations with people I work with in IT lately about getting an Xbox One X, and all of them have the same question:

I still have to explain that to anyone I talk with, regardless of how big of a gamer they are.
that only just barely works when your first party games are basically the best games.
(xb1 does have a lot of games tho, just not 1st party)
Genuine question, but is there much point advertising a launch that's already sold through it's launch allotment pretty much? I guess you'd get some people to pick up an S. I guess also that you'd help generate buzz about the system if more people wanted it and couldn't get it.
On the other hand, if demand is currently ahead of supply, why not hold back those advertising dollars until they have more product to sell?
What exactly are you missing?
Were comms for the Pro really that bad?
This will get me flamed to fuck (even though I am unbiased and own consoles from all the big 3), I think it's because less people care about MS nowadays. They have tried to fuck the user base over once too many times and it's cost them. Only my opinion, but I was a complete 360 fanboy last gen and I don't care in the slightest what they announce these days.
Something more than "the most powerful console ever". There's precious little on Xbox Wire and the Xbox channel on Youtube. I shouldn't have to rely on Digital Foundry to tell me what my £450 gets me.
I'm sure a marketing push of some description will happen pre-release and we'll find out what that XB1X exclusive BC feature they have yet to reveal is soon enough but it would be nice to have known more and a lot sooner.
I find that hard to believe when we've had oodles of threads about specs and there's been no short supply of teardowns and spec analysis.
What do threads on an enthusiast forum and Digital Foundry analyses have to do with official Microsoft marketing?
If you work in IT then you know damn well 90% of the people you work with dont give even the slightest fuck about modern video games.
Maybe, I dunno. I absolutely love Sony, but I despise their online multiplayer and the ps operating system. I feel it's clumsy and ugly. So I'll never play multiplayer games on Sony hardware. My family isn't exactly Xbox fans over Sony, they just enjoy how easy the operating system is and how fluid online multiplayer is. I think it just depends on where your friends are and unfortunately many people switched to Sony this generation so it seems less are interested in Xbox.. who knows
