Wow, the more I read about this the better it sounds. Hardcore mode sounds like a really smart compromise between old-school Fallout and what Bethesda did with F3. WW sounds similarly cool.

Repair sounds like it'd be really useful, but I think I'll opt out of it. Will rather be scavenging a lot.

In the Fallout 3 world, Repair is actually one of the more important skills. You'll be able to combine the exact two weapons into one with a better life/durability which means its more powerful it also means it goes for more caps when sold. This is the main way to make money fast in Fallout 3 (remains to be seen if money can be gained as easily in New Vegas).

And I think I'll play Wild Wasteland on at first and off the second time (good to hear theres specific things that can only be gotten when played with it on or off).

Ah, yes. My personal grudge against Fallout 3. Too many bottle caps, and absolutely nothing to do with them.

Can you eat Ghouls? They look kinda tasty, I bet they taste like jerky.
Ghastly Scavenger (1 Rank)

Prerequisite: Cannibal Perk

With Ghastly Scavenger, when you're in Sneak mode, you gain the option to eat a Super Mutant or Feral Ghoul corpse to regain health. Every time you feed, you lose Karma, and if the act is witnessed, it is considered a crime against nature. Bon appetit!

I dunno Cannibal sounds really gross to me. I don't think I would ever play that sort of character. I like to be a bit more civilized, regardless of what sort of character I'm playing. :lol
I picked it on one playthrough for fun. Killing and eating someone in front of a big group of people is pretty funny. :lol

Yes! You're in Vegas, it's time to gamble your fortune away! :D
Wait... so basically what you're saying is your useless caps can be spent winning exponentially more useless caps?!

I hope they throw in something where if you gamble and win too much at a single casino, they get mad and actually ask you to leave, and if you don't they turn hostile.

Use caps to buy weapons to kill people to eat people to loot their caps to buy more weapons to kill more people to eat more people. It's the circle of life.

A Wild LITTLE JESUS appears!

LITTLE JESUS uses SUDDEN KNIFE FIGHT!

It's super effective!

A caps -> prizes option would be cool. Say, for example, you could get an ultra rare item or weapon by winning X amount.

I'm suddenly getting very worried about Llyranor! If I die in the desert, can you guys make sure he doesn't get anywhere near my body? :lol

My character in FO3 had that child friendly perk, I forget it's name... Thankfully it was a woman, so it didn't seem creepy. :lol

It's too late. He's already scouting for your soon-to-be-corpse.

My first character did too. Except I sold the first kid I befriended. :lol

It would have been awesome if the Casino had a Dragon Quest sort of system where you used the Casino's own chips instead of caps and cash out if you wanted but you could also use the chips to purchase Casino specific prizes (where you couldn't just abuse a Caps to Chips conversion, you'd have to play to win).

So what's everybody's first character gonna be!? :D

Me. I always play as if it were me that had been dropped into the game world when I play these kinds of games, on the first playthrough. And, I think, hardcore and the hardest setting to start with.

Oh dear, I'm obsessing over designing my build around the cannibal theme now. This is not going to end well.

It won't end well at all... unless there's a campfire nearby.

Just make sure it's always in a dark alley or behind a building. Cover your tracks.

I'm going straight cannibal I've decided. Thanks for the motivation GAF!

I bet you could eat every single person in the entire game.

That's a good idea for an achievement, actually.

On the subject of random wacky encounters, how many were in Fallout 3?

The only one I came across was the space ship that explodes above your head, dropping the alien blaster and tons of ammo.

Were there any others?

I'm thinking about foregoing the waiting for reviews and just pre-order the thing just so i can get all giddily about steam cloud.

Are there any screenshots of the new character creation page yet? I'm hoping it'a better than the one in Fallout 3. "Ok here's your characters face on some sort of oscilloscope or what ever the hell it's supposed to be. Have fun trying to make it the way you want while half of it is in semi-darkness and the head is bobbing all over the place"

Wait what? I know of the alien crash site, but do you actually see it exploding?

And I assume you mean the regular game - I didn't play any of the expansions. ;p

guy last page posted the first 15 minutes of the game which included the character creation sequence. Ninjas took it down in 10 minutes.

Yeah regular game. There's the crash site, and there's also a chance a ship will explode over head. All you hear is the sound of it rapidly dropping in altitude, then an explosion in the sky. Randomly drops the alien blaster and tons of glowing blue ammo around you.

Ah right, now I remember hearing something about that. Never experienced it myself, though.

This thread's inspiring me to do a mini-run of Mask of the Betrayer over the weekend, but I've never played it starting from scratch. Still worth it I assume. When I played I imported my badass end-game NWN2 character. Do you just start with a new char at lvl 18 if you don't import?
