Twitch vs Speedrun Community Drama (update: Twitch officially responds)

Yeah the anger was more over emotes removed from Cyghfer's channel which led to Duke's joke that started this ball really rolling. The NightLight emote was more brought up as an example of what the community believed was fast tracked due to it being Horror's partner's fursona and having some inappropriate material tied to it.

Somewhat related n the past, a bunch of streamers have brought up emotes being shot down for small copyright concerns, yet emotes like that Jack Daniels bottle and other images taken directly from games without permission on larger games remaining as emotes. Horror plays a large role in sub emotes, so he's the one this often gets linked to when discussions happen.

It isn't that one. I don't wanna post it cause it's pretty messed up. Ill just describe where it's located.

it's right below the clothoTheMage's last twitter post. The one with Lurks twitter post. Yeah, I am serious btw. It's pretty messed up.

Oh jeez that one. Wow.

Speaking as someone that just started watching twitch streams a week ago: this is the kind of behaviour that pushes people like me away. Crazy admins? I thought this was a legitimate website, not some kids chatroom.

They're not firing anyone. Old logs of their community manager using racial slurs appeared a while back when that same community manager accused a certain video game community of being racist.

Shit isn't going to change. It's kept in-house, just like the community manager said....

I can't talk about this too much (we have a policy to not discuss moderation decisions publicly for privacy reasons), but do know that the entire situation is very seriously being looked into and is not being taken lightly. I'm hopeful for a positive outcome for all involved parties.
Thanks for letting us know.
Hope everything will be fine soon.

You're clearly so much more mature calling people names.

Emotes have been an issue on Twitch for quite a while. They have always, always been a problem. What should I say? One shouldn't take that shit seriously at all, especially to this level...

Sorry, but I'm going to be very skeptical due to the actions of Jasonzm. As bad as Horror's stuff is, and it is, the jasonmz posts are just so much worse. That his boss is willingly ok with these actions. Because it comes off as 'fuck you, staff's always right.' Cheers all.

In his defense, what are you supposed to say when people are anonymously calling for the firing of a coworker? It's a pretty crappy position no matter what the circumstance.

I like how you leave out all the details of how I was 14 then, and 29 now. I know what it's like to be young and angry and to see the internet as an anonymous void for which there are no consequences. Clearly, you do as well, and you see it in Twitch chats and YouTube comments of today. But I grew up, as we all do, and now I use my positions to try and create better environments. The games industry is a cynical place and its easy to get wrapped up in it. It's a struggle I think a lot of people deal with, and we just brush it off by calling it trolling. This is why I'm hopeful for a positive outcome to this case in particularly, because it's clearly brought a number of elements to light.

When you don't know what to say, say nothing. I thought Twitch was supposed to be professional and not amateurs running a streaming service out of their garage.

Kind of an example of an abuse of power. Hopefully Horror gets knocked off his pedestal because speed running is a lot of fun to watch.

"And just to clarify, nobody, including myself, is hating on Horror for being gay or for being a furry. He can live any lifestyle he chooses..."

Hmmmmm, interesting.

You respond with a "We're looking into it". It's not hard. This didn't get this big because you have an idiot mod that's hooking his boyfriend up with furry porn emotes, it's big because your co-worker's response, and subsequent IP bans of people responding to that.

What did Courtney do? Was nothing but respectful earlier shutting down a stream and got called everything you could think of.

Has closed down several other streams who didn't do that. Anyone who questions what's going on, whether they are being respectful about it or not, gets shut down right away

so basically:

-Mod makes emoticon of his boyfriend's furry character
-Apparently these are kind of a big deal on twitch, so it's kind of cringey to go 'hey massive website, here's my bf's face for everyone to post in chat!
-Community flips their shit, starts whining about pornography and furries
-Mod flips his shit, bans people for criticizing him, removes emoticons from people, etc
-Turns out the emoticon was cropped from vore porn I guess

I love this. Random controlling furry admin, overreacting twitch fans, stay hilarious.

I was also in the "what the heck is a fursona" camp. After hearing the limited stuff I heard today, I think I've learned enough.

As weird as it is to say, and it's part of why I like twitch, it's got the small message board type vibe. It comes off as incredibly unprofessional which might have been excusable(disagree) in the past, but it's a global thing now. It can't have stuff like this happening.

Twitch chat is always fast-paced and feels like 4chan with ADHD and actual moderation, I guess that's why I like it so much? If people can't have fun on Twitch, though, what's the point?

It's probably a twitch thing and Courtney is just the unlucky one that has to go around doing it.

I was in one of those channels and I think I'd be tempted to ban every person that told me to kill myself or to suck it or anything else.

That image is... something. I guess.

But in regards to Horror - I've read several complaints about him over time, can't judge myself but this whole ordeal is just absurd.

What? No it isn't? That's art of the character. The emote is this

That's it. It's not offensive in the least.

Could we have the actual emote posted in the OP, so we don't have people assuming it's the art done of the character?

Edit:
No its this one

Hah. Still inoffensive. :D

I agree (in the case of that particular stream)

One of the higher ups set Werster free not too long ago, and some of these admins are still on their banning spree, so i guess nobody knows what the hell is going on at the moment

This was literally tossed at Courtney today from one streamer during this whole ordeal.

Never heard of the term 'vore porn'. I googled it and I seriously want to go back in time to punch myself unconcious.

One streamer, at least one of his mods, and about a dozen people in the stream when sub only mode was taken off. When sub only mode came off it was one of the worst things I've ever seen on twitch. There is absolutely zero excuse to say it ever. Duke saying something tongue-in-cheek and getting banned is bunk. Dumb people antagonizing someone who is just doing what they are told to maybe put out the fire a little bit is outrageous behavior.

I mean is it so hard to not say to remove Horror in your stream title? Or to say it in chat? To rise above the middle school level of maturity? I know it's asking a lot for many on Twitch, but rightly or wrongly you know what is happening. It's best to just let it blow over instead of adding fuel to the fire.

Usually in a business, you say 'We'll look into any complaints. Please be patient.' Good business does not dismiss all claims and kick people out of their store for complaining. They found out both sides, and they act appropriately. They try to keep both. He shouldn't immediately fire Horror, but he also shouldn't say 'nope not happening' when people want him fired. As a manager(or whatever the twitch equivalent is) he should be closer to a mediator than a tyrant.
