One point won't have much of an impact. You get 1 attribute potion per playthrough in the expansion, in a quest in the very first zone, as well as 2 devotion potions(you can reset individual points at the normal respec NPC but if you need to clear out everything it's better to use a potion).

My melee aethermancer just crushed elite ashes. It's working better then I thought it would tbh. Went faster and safer then my infiltrator elite run.

I decided to go 2 hand cause I had this bad boy sitting around in my stash that I'd been meaning to use. It's pretty fuckin magnificent. Now I just need the mythical version

What build are you using for that? Iíve always been fascinated by the idea of a melee aether (or just aether in general, it seems so rare)

This is how it looks at level 80 now, gear and skill wise.

http://www.grimtools.com/calc/Q2zblAk2

I haven't done devotions or components and augments on that so resists (all maxed on elite with stun at 76. I'll need to tweak a few for ult) etc are a lot better. I also have 12.5k health, so the 5k on the link is a bit off.

I use Chaos strike for mobility but it's damage is also nice and the albrects ring helps by converting a big chunk of its damage to aether. Basically drop a raevnous earth (with aether fire), dash in with chaos strke (with arcane bomb) and hit a cooldown callidors to proc phoenix devotion. If anythings still standing, sprectral wrath will usually finish it off . That happens all happens with agrivix proccing swirly death, and the proc on the sword causing green lightening storms everywhere. It wrecks shit. Any sustained fights, you have siphon souls and a bunch of life steal from the weapon procs. I also have this ring which I'll switch in for the band of hollow haunt when I get to 84 for more lifesteal

Alot of the gear is placeholder till I find some of the new shiny stuff but it's working as good as anything I've built through elite. I'm also not even using a default attack replacer. I sort of wanted to with beronath, but chaos strike is the only way to get some mobility and I have to choose between them basically. But I've tanked and spanked every elite AoM boss without needing pots, so it's good and tanky so far. Also has plenty of resist reduct with ravenous earth giving flat, and arcane bomb and spectral wrath offering percentage. The hollow haunt band does as well, but I'll give that up to get more life steal from the lifegiver signet. The haunt relic was also great, and I still sort of want to use it, but agrivix is too nice for melee

Anyway, off to ultimate

Trying out a melee purging heretics with fire.

Demo/arcanist trying to convert all physical to aether/fire. Taking all of the devotions that give aether damage spell triggers. Right now it feels like an old Retribution Paladin from Burning Crusade. Definitely one of the slower levelling builds, but it is starting to clear stuff quickly after Homestead since I now have both Aetherfire and Arcane Bomb devotions.

I've decided to try a class there couldn't be any less synergy between. Defiler. Have sights set on a wacky, quasi summoner/reflect build around mark of torment, and the blazeheart sword. It prob won't work, but you never never know if you never never go

Melee sorc. Interesting. I have a couple of sorcs but they're ranged builds. Leveling them should be pretty easy though with skills like flash freeze and cannister bomb.

My aether melee spellbinder turned out pretty solid too. Was able to tank most stuff in ult AoM, while still putting out pretty good damage. Just gotta beat the last guy now

This is how he's currently looking as a never ending WIP

My dw vitality aether apostate turned out really well. Hit 100 in the middle of ultimate since I quaffed exp pots for most of the early game and was overleveled at end of vet.

Cracklox- I'm also trying my hand at a defiler. I thought Trickster was the hardest class to build for (prior to expansion) but this is next levelThere's absolutely no synergy between necro and demo but I'm dead set on making it work. Not happy about the lack of convert to vitality or cold conversion to X gear but I'll pull it together. Blazeheart screams for a defiler build but I just don't know how it'll work. I don't do pets though and am aware that is likely limiting my build choices.

Looking forward to how it pans out for you wrt your defiler

Haha. Yeah it kinda sucks. No shared damage types, no summon support for demo, so what are meant to do. My idea is to use reap spirit and triple short term blight fiends, and only focus on pet damage and not survivability. Also going to max spectral wrath and vindictive flame, as they sort of synergize, but I'm not sure it'll be the best to deal with anything other then trash. Also with Blazeheart and some nice CDR, you can get about 75-80% uptime on mark of torment, so I'm hoping the reflect damage will put in some work against bosses and the like.

Everything else I'm making up as I go. For the first time in a bunch of toons I've created, I don't have much of an idea of where to go with devotions. I'll need some fire damage later, but I won't be able to properly capitalize till lvl 94, so no idea till then...

Oh and those damn limited time blight fiends. They live for 8 seconds, but literally take 2 or 3 seconds to pull themselves out of the ground. They either need to live a little longer, speed up the animation or don't start the 8 second counter till they start moving. Also the ability to summon 3 is pretty useless until you get a lvl 94 helm (which I don't have. Yet) which halves the cooldown.

Anyway, just rounded darkvale gate in normal at level 40, and sometimes its pretty nice (karroz went down fast) and other times I'm getting murked by herpy derpertereans and other trash.

For a Defiler I would probably stack elemental damage and convert the one necro skill to 100% cold. Use flashbomb and lightning jacks to keep stuff locked down while smacking things with fire strike.

EDIT: high rank skeletons use elemental damage, which is boosted by the flame aura.

Hmmm. Didn't think of that. Blazeheart, (which i'm determined to use) has a big chunk of vita to fire, so elemental would be work for that as well. And I kinda wanted to use Bone Harvest too, but couldn't really find a way to work it in.

Cheers for the tip. It also helps with what I should do with devotions

I am wondering what the level of respec is in the game? I just started, but I am not sure I like the class I picked yet? There are so many options and stuff.

Yeah, I'm still kicking around here. Sort of.

Pretty much everything can be respecced nowadays, from skill points and devotion points to attribute points. You CAN'T however undo a class selection once you have invested at least 1 point in the mastery. That said all the masteries are useful in their own right, some just don't come into their own till further into the tree, and with some investment. If you're not happy with it though, then probably the easiest thing to do is re-roll if you're still early on.

And yeah there's tonnes of options, but most anything will work playing through normal. Main thing to do is pick a from melee or ranged, and a damage type with some associated skills, and then work towards that with gear and devotion choices. Also don't spread skill point to thinly.. There's only so many to go around. Pick a skill you like and dump some points in it early. Most endgame builds only rely on (at most) a couple of skills with a bunch of auras and passives to support.

There's plenty of more nuanced stuff, that you'll need to learn and pick up should you make it to ultimate, but you can do a lot of that as you go. Heck, I'm still learning new things and mechanics with 2k+ hours on the clock, so there's a tonne of depth

Depends on what skills you focus on.

Pet focus - Necromancer or Occultist
vitality damage totems - Necromancer or Occultist, maybe Nightblade
weapon skills - Soldier (melee) or Inquisitor (ranged), Necromancer or Demolitionist (anything)

There are more combinations, but those are the obvious ones.

Shamans also work well for lightening builds so any class that has good lightening support. Demo or Inquis come to mind. I just recently leveled a lightening Primal Strike Vindicator (shaman/inquis) and it's pretty damn strong even without optimal gear

Started a pure vitality damage 2H melee Deathknight. Does good damage and has a ton of life leech. Health bounces up and down like crazy during difficult fights. Only problem has been finding a new weapon, but that is all due to poor RNG. The damage buffs from Cadence and Bone Harvest have the largest impact on this build.

If you focus on fire damage, which the combo can provide a tonne of then things like the fiend for flame torrent, solaels witchfire for eldritch fire, rowans crown for elemental storm and Ulzuins torch for meteor shower are all solid offensive options. You'll definitely at least want solaels and/or rowans for resist reduction, and meteor shower is rock solid as a tier 3 power. Fissure from Magi can also be good, but I don't use it in most of my fire builds

Also from a defensive standpoint look at things like giants blood, which should be easy to get, and the chariot which actually provides a tonne of passive offense, but a nice defensive proc. The Ghoul is also good as a circuit breaker if you can work it in. Tree of life is stupid good too, but it'll be pretty hard to get as it's on the other side from where most of the fire based skills are and requires a pretty massive investment. Also, ignore turtle shell as a defensive option, unless you really need the nodes it provides. The shield is next to useless by the time you get to ultimate.

Thinking about it, you could prob do a pierce based build with the two classes as well, and that would be a completely different setup again...
