Nioh Last Chance Trial Thread: It's your last chance, seriously.

I beat the first boss and was prompted to download a mask, but it didn't connect to the Playstation store and now won't come up again.

Any ideas? Also aren't I supposed to get two masks off her?

You will get her mask from killing her.

For the other two marks you're suppose to defeat the twilight version.

I feel like I'm super underpowered fighting this Ogress...

Safest place I found was right up in her face and practically under her dress. Only two attacks could get me there: her ground slam (dodge twice right to avoid) and her jumping attack (dodge two or three times towards her. You should end up behind her).

If you can keep that up, she's pretty manageable.

I am super bummed this isn't coming to Xbox, I really might have to get a PS4 :(

There's never a better time to get a PS4 with all these exclusives in first quarter.... as well as all the other exclusives from before.

The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2, Kingdom Hearts, Yazuka 0, Nioh, Nier, Horizon, Persona 5.

Okay I beat the Ogress on my first try today (I only tried once yesterday before going to bed). It felt really easy. I essentially just mashed attacks in her back while using Ki pulses and dodged her easily predictable attacks. I quickly gave the other content a try but it seems a bit too hard to complete tonight (already 11pm), so I'm calling it a day.

Fun demo though.

Missing a lot essentials, but agreed. I bought PS4 Pro for this and no regrets after this trial.

Yeah the Tachibana duel should have recommended a higher level.

That said I don't get people saying he's cheap. How so? Because he's too hard for you?

I would say he actively cheats.

There's no point to a visible stamina meter if enemies break it.

I think if that was the intention, it has changed.

You get the Mark of Strong and the Mark of Conquer just for the main mission.

Mark of Conquer is not up yet, Mark of Strong is. If you didn't download them at first, go to the title screen and press Square at the New Game/Continue/System menu.

Mark of Conquer will not be downloadable until the game is out. https://mobile.twitter.com/PlayStation/status/823051027641290753

I just beat the normal mission and got Mark of the Warrior. Is the the new one, or one of the old ones? I was supposed to also get the Conqueror, but it's broken in my region for some reason. As far as I can tell, anyway.

I'd like to get all three and I'd like to confirm whether the issue is Twilight completion or a broken thing on the PSN.

So, after rebuilding the database and restoring factory settings twice and reinstalling the demo five times, I've found the only thing that didn't make it crash on the title screen: just play it as another user. ROTFL, this shit doesn't make any sense.

BTW, beaten, it's still the same great game I've loved in the first alpha.
Frame-rate in Action Mode on my OG PS4 is definitely improved, I had just some minor camera problems with the boss and menus are more comfortable. Good job, Team Ninja.
The only con is that ordinary mobs seem less challenging.

The point of the stamina bar is to tell you when to press the Attack. There are times when even though he is guarding his stamina is so much lower than me that I just kept wailing on him till he breaks.

The stamina meter is important for this fight, once it is red, if you tag him just once, he goes into the tired state so you can combo/grapple/impale him on the ground. You can even use shurikens when you see the opportunity to drain the last bit of stamina to do a lot of damage. Another way to make him to fall to the ground is also popping him in the head with a range weapon, you can get a shot off when he buffs himself either with the circular motion or lightning buff.

I'm already looking forward to the first AGDQ speedruns of this and what kind of crazy specialised builds the community will come up with in the final game.

edit: people are so up in arms about their rewards, carrot and the stick really works. You just get some hats, right? You'll pick up a dozen new hats playing just the first mission in the final game.

I beat the demo but honestly the biggest hurdle for me were those two early guys by the fire

I still don't know if I have grasped how to fight multiple enemies at once. Especially since they don't aggro like Dark Souls and come one at a time.

Downloaded this yesterday and I have to say there are a lot of improvements compared to the previous demos. The enemies are not nearly OP as they used to be, but I can't really help disliking having three different stances. It makes the game too confusing for me, end up using only one (mostly mid-stance) and it feels like I'm not grasping the game's system properly...

Also, I played the demo for 30 minutes and was about to give up because it's really frustrating... and I'm far from a noob, having completed all soulsborne games from DeS to DS3. Then I realized that Nioh is much more Bloodborne than Dark Souls . I was being too protective. It's all about being aggressive, hitting R1 at the right time to balance the Ki and power up the characters ASAP. I had the feeling even one or two levels (and AP assigned to the right category) made a huge difference.

Probably not day one for me, but I'll definitely get it this year.

I did die for hours in the Alpha without progress. However eventually it clicks. I also found the stance system very confusing but once you figure out how it changes the gameplay it is quite tactical and not just aggressive.

I recommend newcomers to stick with the axe, and pay attention to the enemies stamina bar. The High stance on the axe is a great surprise attack and tends to also make the enemy run out of stamina so you can finish them in one go with the triangle.

Every stance makes sense once you use the Ki system correct (I didnt get it on the Alpha). You only have to switch between two stances to be effective. Veterans use all three controlled (I still struggle with control with switching as I accidentally switch at times).

Shoot one of them in the head. Headshots against humans are instant kills 99% of the time

Finally beat the One-Eyed Oni after 1.5 hours of trying. I don't think I'll even be able to finish the first mission, let alone the whole demo, before it expires at this rate.

Honestly the second hardest thing for me after the second boss lol.

Am I doing this game right? I feel like this is so much harder than Ninja Gaiden ;( MNM Alma has nothing on this bitch (or maybe I really am underleveled, I dunno haha).
I prefer using the faster weapons. I can't wrap my head around the axe. Although, I do recommend staying right up next to her pretty much all the time.

Is there any guide to understand how the stances work? I finished the first two demos using only the mid-stance. I hate not getting the system, it prevents me from fully appreciating a game I would otherwise love. All that loot is... gorgeous!

Gunna...

Switch up my strat...

Use the quick attack to punish her light attacks, then use the Heavy for the Jump. I think m issue is that I'm taking too long to do proper damage.

Aha, that flurry attack she does ruined my attempt ;( I should dash away I guess

Broad strokes is basically

High-stance: Most offensive, slower strikes, fewer i-frames when dodging
Mid-Stance: Middle of the road
Low-stance: Least offensive, good for stunlocking with fast strikes, most i-frames when dodging.

Specific skills work with specific stances - buying a skill that gives you Ki Pulse when dodging probably needs to be purchased for all stances.

Ideally, you want to switch stances around during the fight. Low-stance to dodge, then high-stance to attack a boss. In practice, this is difficult.

kusarigama is so op, you never bang it on a wall, it's got great quick close moves and basically a ranged ping attack in high stance,
some really good stagger/knockdown effects that don't force you to be open to anything.
too bad it doesn't scale with body :p

I would not call low stance the least offensive. low stance heavy combos can be very punishing. I cleared ogress in low stance very quickly.

Nobody is being summoned into my lvl 25 twilight mission for the final boss :/

Edit beat it alone first shot. Yay! So is that it? I to the rewards?

I'm nowhere near as good at this game as I thought I'd be. I think that's mostly due to me not being used to this dash yet, and the inability to attack while holding the guard button.

Dope stuff.

I've beaten the demo, and never changed from low stance lol.

Playing the Monster Hunter way: "Don´t get hit, hit'em till they die"
Fast roll is best roll.

Dash right or left. I honestly think you're safer the closer you are.

Also, Orgress is nowhere near as hard as Alma. :)

I think Alma had max... took me 3~5 tries by the time I got to her on VH and NMN.

I'm really fucking up these dodges haha, I'm getting hit despite it all.

I refuse to fight her levelling up anymore. I wanna get to the point where I don't get hit <3

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Never touched a Souls game in my life and this game is making me feel like a total loser

Sickle/Dual Swords seem to be the best so far. I like an aggressive dodge oriented style. Guarding always seems to put me in a vulnerable position somehow.

So if I finished the first stage I'm good for all three rewards?

I don't want to play too much if I can help it; I would rather wait for release.

No shame: my first fight with Alma lasted a couple of very frustrating weeks. Only other boss to do that to me was OoK in Bloodborne.

Someone correct me, but I read the i-rames are at the start of the dodge. Maybe that'll help?

Honestly, just stick as close to her as possible and dodge around (ground slam) or toward her (jump attack).

I played the HELL out of this late Friday and nearly all of Saturday. I'll hop on it again later today and help people finish the demo. I'm more than ready for the full release (and I have been since the beta). There's still some issues I have with the game, but they're pretty minor.

ScreamingMeat, you're dead on. Your i-frames are at the start of your dodge, which is why you want to dodge at the very last second. Dodge too late (or the wrong direction) and you'll get hit as you come out of the dodge. That's one of the most common things I see people get offed by.

This might be it? My dodge timings could be way off.

am I supposed to have learnt any skills?

edit: omg I just found out that you can...

Matchmaking sucks. It doesnt pair me with anyone outside of my region (even after selecting in the options menu) so I cant find anyone to play in twilight.

Crazy to me that I crushed it in both the first level and the twilight version. But had to fight that duel like 15 times to get it. It's like the Chikage asshole In Bloodborne for me.

So now that I beat the twilight map as well I'm set for the rewards right?

The Twilight mission seems really hard for me after pretty much breezing through the normal mission. Being underleveled is no good! I also changed my gear and it's messing up my playstyle - there is a ton to learn! Summoned for the Ogress the second go around just for fun and beat it so easily. Is it best to level up in the Twilight stage? Some of those larger sword guys kill me in one hit!

Just watched the last one.

Sorry to labour the point: Stay up in her face! Practically under her dress. Don't run away! Most of her standard moves will go over your head. Her claws hitbox is out in front of her and there's a deadzone under her face.

Dodge/walk right if she telegraphs a move, particularly when she raises her claws up. You can get a few moves in whilst she recovers. If she jumps, dodge towards where she took off a few times and you'll be behind her.

Unless you're getting absolutely stomped in Twilight, farming the graves of fallen players and killing their characters is the best way to level. You'll get tons of Amrita and lots of really good gear.

The Mark of the Conqueror will be available for download after launch according to the comment on PlayStation's twitter account. Mark of the Strong is fine, and you'll get the Ogress Mask for keeping the demo and its save data on your PS4. Access a shrine in the final release and pick "Boons" to get the helmets.
