"Deep state"

I hope so much this administrationis brought to its knees because they decided to listen to people like Laura Ingraham, Steve Doocey, Brian Kilameade, Steve Bannon, and Sean fucking Hannity.

Right? I mean there has to be a bottom somewhere, but every day it feels like falling with the Balrog, falling... falling...

still falling...

is that the botto.... nope.

still falling...

Remember when Sarah Palin was considered the bottom? LOL, fun days!

Change of vacation spot.

Per FAA TFR, it appears POTUS is off to Camp David Saturday/Sunday

https://twitter.com/ZekeJMiller/status/875431064554139648

From wikipedia:
Donald Trump thus far has used his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida as his preferred retreat location, in lieu of Camp David. When asked about Camp David in an interview with The Times of London and the German newspaper Bild in January 2017, Trump stated that Camp David was "very rustic" and "It's nice, you'd like it. You know how long you'd like it? For about 30 minutes."
Might be an interesting weekend if he's avoiding his adoring Mar-a-Lago members in favor of the cabin in the woods.

edit: To be fair, he might just want a change of scenery... okay, it's Trump, that's definitely not the case, unless it's been cladded entirely in gold. Or just wants to use every Presidential thing he has, no matter how dull it is to him.

You saw a few Democrats jump ship in 1994 because a) they were already much further out of line with the party than Manchin is with today's Democrats and b) they wanted to be a part of the new majority. There's no advantage to Manchin being in the "majority" of a 50-50 R Senate versus a 51-49 D Senate, especially knowing that Democrats would have a decent chance of expanding that majority in 2020 when the deck is less stacked.

In '94 everyone could see that the South was going to swing hard to the GOP for the foreseeable future. Guys like Shelby decided to ride that wave rather the be drowned by it. Machin isn't going to be running for office for 20 more years.

Imagine Labour w/ a leader who could actually run ahead of their party's popularity.

You realize that Labour wouldn't have actually done as well without the electorate that Corbyn brought in, right?

I know that doesn't fit your Narrative, but it's an uncomfortable reality to have to come to terms with for people who don't like socialism.

I'm not even talking about this on a issue basis. (Labour's actual platform is relatively boilerplate)

I'm talking on a pure numbers basis- having a party running ahead of their leadership candidate is really weird, at least, based on my experiences here in the US, where it's almost universally the opposite (in part due to parties generally being unpopular all the time here.)

Did someone make the decision for him? Maybe to keep him from talking to the members about incriminating things and to keep him away from possible Russian moles? And if he's talked to mar o lago memebers does that mean they can be considered witnesses to be called in?

Imagine if he's never allowed back to his precious Mar A Lago.

Somehow this is a better solution than
- Get cancer

- Survive
- Still in crippling debt, but alive
- Go bankrupt

And that's somehow a better solution than
- Pay taxes
- Get cancer
- Survive
- Move on with your life

On a pure numbers basis, Labour would not have done as well with a different leader because of the electorate that Jeremy was able to turn out.

You also are looking at this from a US perspective, which is bad. Theresa tried to run on herself instead of running on Tories (which were much more unpopular than she was), and it backfired, for good reason.

Judge Delivers Blow To Trump Administration In Dakota Access Fight
A federal judge in Washington, D.C., ruled Wednesday that the Trump administration failed to follow proper environmental procedures when it granted approval to the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline project.

It's a legal victory for the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and environmentalists, who protested for months against the pipeline. Oil started flowing through it earlier this month. The tribe fears that the pipeline, which crosses the Missouri River just upstream of its reservation, could contaminate its drinking water and sacred lands.
This ruling does not order a halt to pipeline operations. But it opens the door to that possibility.

The judge writes that the standard remedy in this situation would be to vacate the pipeline's permits and easement, thereby halting pipeline operations until the Army Corps is in compliance with environmental procedures.

"Such a move, of course, would carry serious consequences that a court should not lightly impose," Boasberg says. He ordered the parties to submit briefings about the legal question and scheduled a status hearing for next Wednesday.

This is the exact type of thing I want democrats to start blanketing the airwaves with.

Nobody reads or cares after step 1 "pay taxes"

Once you mention taxes, people just tune out and instantly hate the idea because of 50 years of indoctrination that taxes are the ultimate evil of the government

I actually laughed. I don't blame him, Camp David looks boring.

Good news! Many appointed positions down the line are still vacant.
This is one of the tells that Trump doesn't give a flying fuck about government or governing. The actual job means fuck-all to him - instead, it's all about the position and the acclaim.

Wishful thinking in the face of imminent policy despair, or is there actually something to this argument?

I don't know if Medicare for All will necessarily be passed the next time Democrats take back power, but it's basically guaranteed that the next time Democrats take back power they will pass something that is at the very least something more like Obamacare but with a Public Option and medicare buy-in for people 55-64.

IIRC, most Presidents haven't cared much for Camp David. I think Reagan was the only one who really liked it so he really started that whole let's hold all these important meetings there thing.

I want to say Thatcher has a highly negative Yelp review of the place in her one memoir. One foreign dictator dude really loved it too.

People are weird man.

Guess who has nothing to do in the afternoon.

Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russia are not looked at, but my non-dealings are?
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/875438639823675392

Mr. President, who's the president? Is it the Clintons? Who won the election through possible collusion with Russia? Was it the Clintons? Who refuses to say anything negative about Russia/Putin? Is it the Clintons?

Go enjoy reeling in fear, jackass

I figure this is the end result of all of this. The GOP pushes way too far, healthcare goes into an even worse position than it was pre-Obama, the Democrats sweep everything in 2018 and 2020, and the public demand a public option, which gets quickly passed.

Obamacare, deliberately or not, was a political trap designed to ensure that we went towards universal health care. It was flawed even if it had worked out as intended (with the non-gutted medicaid expansion), and those flaws would exacerbate over time, but going back to the status quo ante (which was also unsustainable, but so many people simply didn't have healthcare that they didn't notice) would become politically impossible, so the only way out is forwards.

Medicare for all was going to happen one way or another, but the GOP makes it easier because by making healthcare actively worse, they stoke the fires of activism that call for people to push improvements that they would otherwise care less about. If we're talking about the boiling frog analogy, the frog doesn't notice if the temperature is climbing at Obamacare rates, but the frog sure as hell will notice and jump out at AHCA rates.

Hanging in the middle of the woods is pretty sweet with friends. Just drinking and relaxing plus no cell service.

I am blown away about how addicted these people are to the Clintons.

Wait there is more.

Crooked H destroyed phones w/ hammer, 'bleached' emails, & had husband meet w/AG days before she was cleared- & they talk about obstruction?

Are there numbers showing people being drawn to him specifically instead of the party? Again, argument isn't his policies, it's more "Isn't there a socialist candidate who people like more than Corbyn?"

I totally understand the issue they're facing internally (the ex-UKIP vote increase seems similar to the US w/ areas that love social benefits but also love denying them to other people) and why that had a role to play, as well as the "sunbelt"-esque heavily Remain middle/upper-class areas flipping to Labour. (This is different than in the US, where we're seeing the gains pretty much only on the latter side.) They made gains on both ends while losing Scotland, which is likely to have very different results in a future election because of all the weird one-off issues there. If/when Labour actually takes power, this is probably going to result in some internal strife, though again - the platform is really boilerplate. It does seem like getting some sort of Brexit compromise worked out w/ the Tories would be to their advantage, if only because that's a hot potato they probably don't want to be taking on their own, due to the fact that both parties appear to have internal fractures on the subject.

There's a bizarre lack of blame shifted towards Obama as well

He'd rather talk about someone who is not president and is only married to someone who was president 25 years ago, than talk about Obama.

I guess he figures ranting about Obama isn't really worthwhile since he's so popular?

I nearly joked earlier that if Trump's going to Camp David, he's probably going to fire Mueller while he's there. Now I'm not sure he'll wait that long, wow.

Going to the woods this weekend for Father's Day. No internet, beautiful weather, and the Milky Way visible to the naked eye at night. All I need is food, beer, my Kindle and art supplies.

Yes, people are being drawn to him specifically -- that's the entire reason he was able to win places like Canterbury -- places that have never gone Labour, but had HUGE gains of the student vote and youth vote. Same with even places that were Remain heavy like Battersea and Kensington that could only be won through the influx of the youth vote and not just Tory Remainers.

So yes, based on the seats he won and the composite of the electorate, he did well because he was able to activate the youth vote and non-traditional voters.

I like to think that he's very intimidated by Obama, while he's not by Clinton because she's a loser whom he conquered, but then he met Obama and got manhandled in a way that hasn't become public yet.

Oh for autobiography time.
