non-videogame music that would fit perfectly for a videogame

Alotta underground rappers have songs that would totally fit in a fighter, racing and even a JRPG!

I listen to a lot of hip hop instrumentals and ambient/downtempo mood music and I can see a lot of songs fitting into certain types of soundtrack.

For example I think you could make a dark RPG with a soundtrack produced entirely of El-P beats

Totally agreed but that's probably because I only fuck with underground stuff mostly anyways so whatever.

Gothic Sound
Horror/Gothic

Hype ass Platinumgames music

Some great input in this thread already. Thank you all.

Also, this almost feels like a stealth discover new music thread now. I've heard some great tracks.

Could fit perfectly in just about any cyberpunk/futuristic game.

Basil Poledouris scores, Conan, Robocop, Starship Troopers, he made some of the most iconic soundtracks that'd be perfect in games too imo.

Classic Eno and Fripp, these two made some of the most beautiful music of all time that'd be amazing for any game, imagine this as a world theme while exploring some fantastical landscape:

Now to completely switch it up, for action-games and songs to get you pumped up,

Pretty sure that all those moody-themed, experimental poo mods and little indie things I played at the tail end of my teens influenced to what ideal I compare a lot of game music I hear today.

Just the sorta stuff I wanna play something fitting to I guess

Really into memories of a broken dimension too, which also reminds me a lot of

Also Dune's OST is amazing for completely different reasons.

I made a thread like this one years ago. Satriani has some really good ones. Like they belong in a JRPG boss fight

Satriani's stamp is all over Sonic Adventure 2. Maybe he should make a Sonic game sometime.

And I can't see how people missed the ELP and Final Fantasy link. ELP was a huge influence on his sound.

Lots of prog metal would.... there is a music on Dream Theater last cds that is SUPER megaman X but I can't remember the name =(

If I had to guess I would say you're talking about the small section in "A New Beginning" at the 4:40 mark.

Not familiar with Megaman X's music in particular, but that part always struck me as super oldschool videogame-y.

DT definitely has a ton of videogame sounding stuff in their catalogue. Some other good prog metal bands that do that sound well are Circus Maximus, Pagan's Mind and Haken. Here's a section I really enjoy (at 5:40 mark) from a recent song of Haken's called "1985".

Pagan's Mind - "Full Circle" Live

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DC2qoLNO1vs

A medley of a lot of their most awesome instrumental parts constructed into one 16:00 song. If you like epic FF type videogame music, I'd be surprised if you don't enjoy parts of this unless you just don't like rock/metal.

Plus the band is amazing live and it's the real deal! Enjoy :D (Also any Dream Theater fans that don't know about Pagan's Mind, click the link)

Edit: Heh Just noticed someone in comments say "8:00 Zelda Ocarina Of Time's Zora Domain music? O.O"
