DigitalFoundry: Destiny 2 PS4 First Look + Frame-Rate Test

I guess I'm not sure what you're upset about from my post. I'm also not quite sure how opening a video (notice in the upper left hand corner of that photo it reminds you) of the Destiny 2 PS4 look + frame-rate test and skipping to the middle that you didn't realize you were seeing Destiny 2 footage. -shrug-

Because there's a thing called comparisons? Show off the improvements to Destiny 2 by comparing it to Destiny 1?

Yep! Great eye!

Do you have a link to a good video that shows off the one section with a volumetric light?

https://youtu.be/BaAgKqTOCY4

1) 4:10min mark, the shafts are visible with lightsource completely out of view and the shafts seem to have 3 dimensional volume.

2) 4:54 mark, when the player enters the neon lit area the green lighting is very "volume-y" typical of volumetric lighting.

Let me know if you think. Also I made this comment regarding a theory I have about the offloading AI and simulation bit last page.

Guys Battlefront uses photogrammetry, it's the main reason why it looks so good rather than brute forcing advanced rendering tech.

Photogrammetry most likely would not work with Destiny's art style.

Edit:

Destiny does not aim for realism even a bit though. Read my comment above regarding photogrammetry.

Sorry DF, I only have time for the highest of frame rates. Not this last gen/30 fps garbage Bungie is trying to sell.

My eyes deserve the best.

I realize that. I was posting why the above shitposter might think it looked "better" although I personally would rather have Destiny's artstyle and graphics than I would Battlefront's.

The visuals are certainly more realistic and the PBR is much better, but his whole point is shit.

That's one thing about Destiny that I don't think people realize who keep saying Destiny 2 looks like 1. Destiny has a stylized look to it. It's not as thick and cartoony as Overwatch and Borderlands, but it's not trying to be the most photo realistic game out there. Flashy super powers are the fanciest thing in it, and they do a lot of things with lighting and effects. You're not gonna see photo-realistic textures. Instead you'll see things like the pretty skyboxes and glowing worlds.

Eh, I don't think that's a great excuse. Horizon Zero Dawn doesn't go for realism either but it looks vastly superior in every way.

lmao, "my eyes deserve the best". That's rich. Let me go post that in all your threads raving about Persona 5. Or maybe you were confused when you played Zelda and Bloodborne?

So many hypocrites when it comes to Destiny. It's hilarious.

Well what are you basing this on then? lol

You... you just quoted what I'm basing it off of. The people that I know that are saying this that don't play it.

I have friends that don't play Destiny that are just picking up on the talking points of why Destiny 2 sucks.

DF talked to a network specialist, who's also an ex developer from Respawn Entertainment and Sony, and he said Bungie could have offloaded some features of the games (physics, AI, etc...) to the cloud with dedicated servers and thus, Destiny 2 could have been 60fps (on PS4 Pro at least).

It's at around 5:50 in the video.

Welp...I'm sure the Bungie guys are gonna love that getting out there.

I mean, that rambling, nonsensical Luke Smith response to the question about dedicated servers already put it out there - Bungie/Activision don't want to spend any unnecessary money on this game unless they're forced to.

When they said they were leaving all the Destiny 1 content behind I really expected a big overhaul of the engine/graphics

Ignoring that that is all the speculation of somebody who has no real knowledge about the game or its latency/bandwidth needs.....I don't think anyone reasonable expects Bungie to pay for cloud servers to get the game up to 60 FPS.

I was joking....

Thanks for looking through my post history though, you really showed me.

paraphrasing... "Dedicated Servers, possibly, could have provided 60fps for consoles, taking certain loads off the the CPU"

I have no knowledge of how this works but I'm guessing it's way too late at this point

What is this post man? This is really getting to people.

question. did they really make a new engine for this game or not?

because building a new engine plus game while still making dlc for their current game screams bull shit to me.

uhhh it's still an FPS with pistols, assault rifles, rocket launchers, swords where you fight aliens and ride vehicles that controls almost exactly like Halo. It's very close.
Every FPS plays the same then...lol

He asked for the co-op experience, Destiny co-op experience is very fundamentally different from Halo cause you aren't just shooting things but you have role responsibilities and game mechanics related to stuff like raid.

I count myself lucky I've never done something to warrant someone looking through my post history :p

Although honestly I doubt they would find too much.

I just had a look and Michael C. Salvatori is composing the soundtrack for Destiny 2, That seems ok, he co-opted a lot of Bungie's previous games with Martin O'Donnell. Also DF's analysis just confirmed to me that I am 100% getting this on PC I just hope it's ported properly.

Well, hard to tell for internet comments. I think it's funny because a lot of the time you'll see people bitching about something for a game when they excuse it for another, so yeah I looked. If you're offended or something, sorry but it's not like it's private.

For someone that never tried destiny, does it feel anything like halo co-op?
To me, Destiny (gameplay wise) in a lot of ways feels like where Bungie would've taken Halo if they still had the reigns. Also, co-op is a ton of fun. They still have the Bungie touch. There were moments that I encountered that felt Halo-ish to me (like facing a Hunter in Halo for the first time) etc. If there is an open beta later on, I'd definitely recommend that you try it.

I finally got the chance to check out the video. I feel like I'm missing something, this footage doesn't seem all that...flattering? The discussion seems like they're fishing for positive things to say.

The segment where they sort of touch on the lack of dedicated servers for offloading some of the general computing for multiplayer is interesting. Their simulated 60 fps interpolation really spells out what a missed opportunity that is, if they prioritized for framerate.
