So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

I'm on the wait-and-see approach before I get the switch, but my roommate has been searching high and low all across western PA for it. Not one place has them, so this morning he drove an hour away to a store in West Virginia to get there before they opened so he could have a shot at the 9 they told him last night they would have in stock. He got there and was fourth in line, and was able to get one lol. But they ended up only having 7, not 9, so I'm assuming 2 got backdoored.

Got to target 20 minutes after opening and got one easy. They had 4 or 5 consoles and 2 pro controllers. I feel like if you want one it won't take long to get it.

LOL I'm in Pittsburgh and I was considering doing this. Where did he get his, Morgantown?

Tell him to stick around til the afternoon and hit up the casino for some greyhound racing!
He's already speeding back. He's been going store to store since Friday and was at his wit's end hahaha. No way he's stopping for anything else, despite his sudden turn of good fortune

Where did you guys come across the information that Target and these stores were getting more Switches? Is it nationwide or just relevant locally to you guys?

Local gamestop ran out, seems to be in stock at a few stores like mediamarkt, toys r us and teknikmagasinet.

Its not sold out but you may have to look for it.

Multiple people have been told this by employees at a bunch of the B&M stores, which makes sense as most all of them have policies to hold back inventory to "honor" their new weekly sales fliers, typically dated from Sunday to Saturday each week.

That doesn't mean they'll have a new shipment, it just means they're going to sell the last of their day one shipment today. Employees often refer to this as a "new shipment" because it keeps people from hassling them for systems that are actually in-stock but not able to be sold. If it's anything like Best Buy's Black Friday policy on TVs it could be as little as a handful of system just to keep up the pretense.

Basically, if you want a Switch and your area appears generally sold out it's worth trying again this morning but after this wait for real confirmation of re-stock. This will basically be the last predictable increase in inventory (even if contrived) for what will likely be at least a few weeks.

It's in the ad. Generally featuring an already released item in the ad comes with the expectation of stock on hand if you don't specify some mid-week date for additional stock.

No dice. The Target I was waiting at had none, and as soon as I found out I drove to another. They had 9 but I was 12th in line.

My impulse to buy is quickly dwindling.

Yeah I am interested but not willing to check stores religiously. Too bad. But I guess I'll grab one in a few weeks.

The line I'm in has grown to about 15. No one has even come out to give us an idea of how much stock they have :/

My friend just texted me. He's been trying to get one since Friday afternoon after work with no luck so far.

Apparently a Best Buy employee just told him they have 12 at that store, and he's the 5th person inline.

Where i work weve gotten shipments of roughly 20-25 in for the past two days. We sell out every morning but it doesnt seem as bad as wii or nes mini

Just made myself angry by checking the local Craigslist. There are hundreds of Switch consoles on there. What a fucking crock. I guess they'll all be upset when they don't sell and stock is back, ha.

targets get low allottments

im surprised more people arent checking larger stores like walmarts and best buys

I've been checking stock at my local Walmarts on BrickSeek and they haven't moved at all in over 24 hours. There are stores listed as having 20+ units in the system, but when asked, they don't actually have any.

I don't think scalpers are doing so hot. I had a second preorder from gamestop.com since I didnt trust my wal mart preorder. I got both, but can't unload my second one for the price I paid after shipping and tax lol. Charging $350, paid $345.

We're in Pittsburgh as well lol.

He found success at a Target in Wheeling. 🙃
I'm 40 mins up 28. None here. I pre-ordered so I got one. I watched gamestop turn 5 people down a head of me in line. I heard they only got 4 extras. Walmart has nothing but just dance. Lol

How accurate is Brickseek? It says there's a bunch of local Switch availability at Walmarts near me (not my main one, though).

I got back home, still shivering, but happy. There was some fuckery about though that put a damper on my mood though. We waited in line about two hours. About five minutes before the store opened, some lady in a car with handicap plates pulled in the closest spot and sat there. Well wouldn't you know it, as soon as the doors opened, divine intervention must have cured her off her ailments because she bolted out of her car like a motherfucker and tried to line jump the rest of us. The store employees set her aside though, and I assume she left empty-handed. But man was she brazen. I get the impression she's done shit like that before and found some measure of success with it.

My local Target, Walmart and GameStop are all sold out. The only store that still had any on Friday (during the day) was Best Buy. I don't know if they still have any left now, but I do know I saw some guy at customer service picking up five on Friday and he was really excited. Either he has a big family or he's a first-time scalper who thought he just won the lottery.

My local Craigslist has about 35 listings, not a single one is less than retail plus $75.

I would just return it.

Damn all the Targets around Seattle wiped out. I waited in line at one, but the second I went to actually opened an hour earlier and I would've gotten one if I'd gone right there.

Any word if Best Buy is supposed to get some? Might just bail for the day.

I was at one Best Buy and there was a line of 7 at 8:30am but now I'm at a different one and there's not a line at all and it's an hour to open. So I hope they do have them here.

Just drove by a Best Buy while we were out and saw a line of like 15 people, so I'm assuming they had some stock. Asked my wife if we could stop to see if we could get one....she shut it down ☹️

Just got back from the TRU in Hickory, NC. They had 24 in stock, I was 21st in line, and managed to get the last neon! So many people wanted grey.

Can we stop with the whole "PS4 and Xbox One can be had for cheaper" thing? Those consoles have been out for over 3 years now.

1) Of course they're cheaper, they're 3 years old.
2) A lot of the people buying Switches have probably already got either a PS4, an Xbox One or a gaming PC so the price of PS4 and Xbox one doesn't really matter as they really aren't competing.

I mean think clearly about this: if people are hardcore gamers they're buying Switches as a second or even third console. They already own a PS4 / Xbox or both. So the comparison is irrelevant. If they're hardcore Nintendo fans who only play Nintendo stuff then, again, the price comparison is irrelevant because they're going to get one anyway.

The only people for whom the whole "why buy a Switch when you can buy a PS4 / Xbox One for less money" are people who don't own a current gen console at all. Or parents buying for children but this isn't Christmas we're talking about, it's March. Plus many of those parents have probably already bought their child a PS4 / Xbox One if they like games so, once again, the argument is pointless.

Just went to Target for the buy 2 get 1 deal and they said they got a bunch for Friday and then some more Saturday and we're expecting more on Tuesday. Walmart gave me a similar "more are coming in" message as well. I have a feeling after a couple of weeks it won't be too hard to find one

Damn, that is terrible. Nice to know the employees put her in the place.

Anyone know if Best Buy should have some today? I'm here an hour and a half before opening, no one else is here. Not sure if I should stay...
