I suppose if the thread title statement is true we won't see a sizable difference until a few years into the generation, aside from first part titles. Forums revere direct comparisons and clamor/balk at paltry 2-3 frames per second advantages though, so multiplatforms probably won't escape that.

could have called it current gen and i wouldn't have know the difference. and this coming from a guy basically underwhelmed with all next gen actual gameplay visuals shown so far.

Haven't gone too thoroughly through this thread... we come to a consensus or not about whether X1 is next gen or current gen yet? Really want to know if it's just PS4 that is.

What? The CoD footage shown at the Xbox1 presser looked like it was running on my PC from 2008 (I am dead serious). Shadow Fall looks far superior.
Forza for one and Halo which are my main reasons for even wanting a Xbox right now.
Other than that we have 15 exclusives to look forward to with E3 that I'm going to be watching closely.
I'd advise that you calm down if you want to stay on this site much longer, it's not a threat but they don't tolerate trolls much.
I think they may have actually included the power brick inside the console this time, which would be nice. If it's still an outer box and the console is still that large then goddamn.

i'm not gonna argue with you on the ps2 vs dreamcast thing, that ship has long sailed. as for the gamecube and the xbox, where did i say they weren't in the same generation?
Power isn't a determining factor, but it is one of the factors when consoles launch roughly at the same time.
Seems like a poor choice to get the attention of the masses , to show the unveiling on a channel and websites that only the hardcore watch. They needed to show this conference prime time where millions would have been watching.
thats what Adam sessler thought anyway, being on xbox live and spike may have got them a little more casual penetration, but they need to show this on same channel and similar time as the x factor or something.

You know, if MS wouldn`t hiding the specs of their superduper powerfull gpu ... even guys like you had their evidence.
Sony already puts their cards on the table and confirmed their 1.84 TFLOPS GPU with 18 CUs.
Both consoles use the same AMD graphics technology and the difference is just.... that PS 4 has more power under the hood.
And we still don`t know how many resources (cores and ram) both are wasting on os and reserved stuff.

I watched the Killzone 4 footage today...I'm sorry, I can't see a difference worth noting between CoDG and KZ4. I'm sure PS4 will eventually break itself apart from X1, but I don't think it's going to be with that game.

They risk losing the US and they'll hardly take market share in europe with a US centric product. A gaming centric machine with massive exclusives looked like a much better option.

You've got 15 exclusives that don't exist enough to even show. If they could show them, they would have. Why would their marketing department choose to shoot them self in the foot like this. "oh, we don't want to show the games until E3, we want to focus on the complete home entertainment package. Lets hype this event to the gaming community and then show the Price is Right!". I mean we are talking about a company that has tons of people who they poll over marketing stuff like this. They had to know this was going to be the reaction. They had to... and if not.. thats even worse. It's a game console release, not a Time Warner/Comcast cable man pitch to get you to pay a few extra dollars a month for the latest and greatest cable box.
They focused on TV and kinect 2 functionality because they had nothing else to show. That said, the TV function, and the UI, looked great. Really... but thats not what any of us wanted to see.
MS dropped the ball, i don't see how that can be denied.

You can't use cloud computing for parts of the graphics. Either you render everything on your console, or you render all in the cloud and receive it in form of a video stream.
IF PS4 games look noticeably better to the masses then x1 games, I think that is a definate advantage
if its the same level of difference as fallout 3 was on the consoles I would defiantly get the console that play the game better.

We've known since before this reveal that this would be heavy on hardware/content and less on games. They even further confirmed that the E3 event, as we know, is going to be gaming centric and will show the rest of the games they have to show.
I'm so frustrated by this power thing. The PS2 came out more than 18 months before the Xbox. The console gen was decided before the Xbox was released; it could have been weaker than the PS2 and it would not have mattered. The whole conversation is meaningless; it does not reveal anything about consumer choices or consumer tastes.
However, if you examine the PS2 in the context in which it was released, you would surely realize that power was a key component of how the system was marketed to consumers. You would know:

bkilian on B3d for example today suggested they could use the cloud easily to render huge crowds watching races but if offline it is a much smaller crowd... just one simple example and Dan said specifically, it will only expand it get better...

Because they wanted to focus on their platform vision and position themselves as an entertainment box and show off how they are going to uniquely position their device. You can't do that if you just show that you're bringing games with b3ttAr graphiks. Why is this so hard to comprehend?
They explicitly stated they will have a lot of games in 3 weeks at E3. They said this before, during, and after the show numerous times. All we can do now is wait to see what they have in store before we can say they don't have anything. Christ.
I don't care about the tech behind it, I won't understand or care to comprehend how it's being done. The end result is they look pretty similar.
Kutaragi talked about the same thing with the PS2 and he even talked about it connecting to your toaster to make it more powerful.

I really can't get over how unimpressive the visuals were, this Forza 5 trailer looks about the same as the GT6 trailer. Where is the huge jump that people are going to shell out $500 for?
