The Metal Thread |OT2| All Riffs, No Gifs

Lol, eh, he's an old man. But ya, that's definitely for super fans only. Honestly I'd probably go see them if they played here, but not if Randy Blythe was singing.

I only skimmed but both HR and Dr. Know have had recent gofundmes for medical bills. I vaguely remember reading that Dr. Know had serious issues.

"At around the same time as H.R.'s headaches became more severe, Dr. Know suffered cardiac arrest and ended up on life support. He is still in rehab — please check out his support fund for more information."
That's unfortunate

Honestly if the vocals were.....not that it'd be totally serviceable. But I'm not even sure I appreciated it on the level of "cool to see them". It was just kind of a bummer

Bandcamp had an article about black metal the other day and they mentioned Sortilegia as a great raw black metal band. Been listening to this album the past few days an I am pretty into it. Great atmosphere if you are into super raw black metal.

love Sortilegia. I always recommend it to people looking for stuff in the vein of Black Cilice. Female fronted as well. Missed them in Oakland, still kicking myself for that.

Oh yeah, there's this band Serpent i've mostly been listening to one song from since i couldn't find anything else made by them. Found an entire album on youtube now so that's awesome. I have no idea where to get a hold of this album, but im definetly a fan of it.
It's basically japanese melodeath and it's awesome.
My favourite song is without a doubt the title Cradle of Insanity https://youtu.be/B1f8Zb2oj9s?t=1572

Haha man, I shouldn't have drunkenly offered to provide my thoughts - primarily because I haven't had the opportunity to give the album the proper chance it deserves!

I mistakenly thought importing music from iTunes to Spotify would sync it via the cloud and allow me to access it on my Spotify account no matter the machine I was on. WRONG! Because of this, I've only listened to it through my mediocre laptop speakers instead of the nice headphones I keep at work.

I will say though that I've listened to it all the way through three times in the span of 24 hours (it was on in the background while I was multitasking), and I haven't had much desire to go back to it sense. There are some neat and catchy tracks on their for sure, but my early impressions were that too many of the tracks dragged as they attempted to go for the slower, more haunting route but didn't quite succeed in the execution.

But again, I'm hesitant to even post this - prog metal really deserves a proper listening experience, and I've certainly not put the album on and given it my full attention. So in that sense, I'm definitely not qualified to give any sort of a definitive statement. On the other hand, the fact that I'm not interested enough to go back anytime soon says a lot.

Basically, it would have been the perfect Spotify release instead of the dubious $10 purchase it ended up being :p

A late reply, but thanks for the feedback at least! I guess I'll just hold off in that case, seems like a solid album but forgettable.

Awesome power metal? Awesome power metal

Don't know if this was shared or not, but it's fucking killer.

Yeah, this is pretty awesome, thanks for sharing, I'm excited for the album release!

I knew Jag Panzer had a new album coming out, but I didn't realize Nocturnal Rites has a new album coming out as well... on the same day! It's like I've traveled back in time 15 years, hope they're both great.

Oh my god, that's the song.

I've never heard a singer sound like the opposite gender like that. The video played during a long youtube autoplay session, so it was on in the background and thought this is kind of ok, another decent symphonic power metal band with a female singer. Then I looked up at the video, couldn't believe it.

Apparently the band counts as post-hardcore and i dont know if that counts here but anyway this is pretty damn good

japanese band called Envy.

Edit: Heck it, here's another japanese blackgazeisch band i found that rocks https://asunojokei.bandcamp.com/album/a-bird-in-the-fault

I've been on a roll today digging around in the japanese metalscene. I wanna post a bunch more stuff but i dont know if big song dumps are allowed.

Ok, that's it. That convinced me that those people complaining that Black Metal has gone full hipster were right. And I absolutely love it. Fuck the haters <3

E: Oh god, they are playing in my city TOMORROW! That's one hell of a sign... I hope I can make the time.
So, I went to that concert. Was really great, I would recommend this band to everybody who has an open mind musically. And I mean everybody, even people who don't listen to Metal. I mean, at least a third of the people there were like storybook hipsters who I don't think listen to "regular" metal at all.

Did you come across Merging Moon? I dig their early stuff but they got a new singer a couple of years ago and have drifted into generic metalcore.

Oh that's pretty dope. That girls growls and shit are insane, goddamn. I'm not suuuper sold on the synth element in the song but it doesn't take enough space to really be something i'm annoyed by.

Now, you get ready for japanese DJENT

I found some more band, but i can't remember what they were called right now. Anyway check these i the person reading enjoys djentstuff.

Been listening to Kvist's only album for quite some time now... it's so good. So, SO GOOD.

Give it a listen if you enjoy BM.
way late but this release is fucking great, cheers. An album I had always seen mentioned in passing but never took the time to check out. Interestingly, in a Yellow Eyes thread I started over at NWN, someone had noted that they heard a little bit of Kvist in Yellow Eyes' sound and I'm inclined to agree. The riffing styles are very similar. Very cool parallel.

Fleurety (NOR) - Min tid skal komme

felt like recommending this album. A mid 90's masterpiece of avant-garde black metal, and that's all I really have to say about it.

I wish I could buy just the shirt because I like wolves in the throne room and the design is badass, but I'm not really digging the new album as much as their previous work (before celestite).

so obviously because of that I do not want to buy a album + shirt combo which is all they offer.

best song is probably fires roar in the palace of the moon

Oh boy, one of the most underappreciated bands around.

They did the whole blackgaze thing long before it was an actual thing.

A Dead Sinking Story is highly recommended.

I'd say I'm a bit of a WitTR-fanboy (although I think that they never surpassed their first two albums), and I think Thrice Woven is beautiful. Drums while being technically great are awkwardly mixed though, but that's nothing new I guess.

The vinyl is stupidly expensive everywhere in Europe though, I'll have to order from amazon.com to land around 30€...

I got lucky with my preordered and it was £28 which is still a bit steep but it's nearly £40 on amazon UK now.

I like what I've heard so far but not had a good chance to give it a proper listen so far, have my tickets for them live in November though, never seen them before.

Digging what i've heard but the guys screamo vocals are starting to get on my nerves. He sounds the exact same and has the exact same build up and style in every song i've heard.
waa-wa-waaah, wa-waa-waaah, wa-waah<<<<<<< repeat forever

I just want some more variety in that stuff.

Got the new Celeste. It's the same as always.
Damn near perfect 😍

That fucking guitar man. And maybe it's the first euphoric listen, but I think it's even more aggressive than usual. Like more staccato riffing, I dunno.

Man I'm going back and forth about driving 5 hours to see them next week. I really want to go but it would prob be solo.

Indeed. Modern Samael (e.g. anything after Passage) ranges from mediocre to trash. That new song is a bit better than their recent stuff, though, surprisingly enough. But holy shit is it overproduced or what.

Worship Him is a little rough at times, but Blood Ritual and Ceremony of Opposites are untouchable.

I recommend to check out their earlier material, if you already haven't done so.

Here's one of their older tracks, Worship Him:

Nope, first time listening to their older stuff. It's very black-metaly but with better production than I expected. Guy's vocals sound positively evil.

That being said, I kinda prefer the newer song. It's got more of a "hook" to it, and I can understand what he's saying. I also prefer the better production on the guitars.

The production ruins those new songs. I think there are decent songs underneath this wall-o-sound mess, but yeah. If you prefer the catchier style, check out Ceremony or Passage instead. Tons of "hooks" but it's not horribly squashed together.

Edit: vocals and riffs are better too anyway ^^

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
I saw the BTBAM Colors tour last night. I'm not a huge fan but I like that album a lot. It was an awesome show; the crowd was nuts, and they lost their shit at that silly bluegrass part.

The opening bands were fucking awful though. Polyphia was like watching some Berklee student performance; just kids wanking on their instruments without any thought put into songwriting. And The Contortionist is like Dredg with occasional "metal" parts. Yikes.
