World of Warcraft |OT9| People still play this? Isn't it from 2004

People said the same about RuneScape. No-one would play on legacy servers if they had to pay for them, EoC made many things better, tc. Now 07scape brings in just as much (if not more) than 3.0, and made a LOT more the first year it was re-added.

07Scape also updates by itself separate from EoC and its a way smaller game. Blizzard can't even manage to fully complete WoD, how the fuck would they do that for Vanilla servers?

Should've just replied with "K." Winds people up pretty good.

I got quite a few friend requests when doing PvP during the invasions, and lord knows how many more while farming the rat at the start of the expansion.

Worth it to hear him try to justify what they did vs me killing them. The "alliance baddie" made me giggle because my main is an Orc Shaman.

Sims are generally only useful for comparing things within a class, not over multiple classes.

Comparing two trinkets for your character, comparing two talents, etc.

That's also assuming the sim profile is good.

Yup, this is the only way I use it. Just to compare two pieces of gear in the same slot.

People need to realize the spec profiles are made by players and can be wrong.

For shadow, simcraft has been bust since the expansion came out, it apparently can't handle surrender to madness and the insane haste and mass hysteria buffs very well.

Those are exciting logs. I definitely don't feel THAT strong as shadow in Normal or heroic. I have a ways to go.

Gear plays a huge part. Once you get more and more haste, Surrender to Madness becomes exponentially stronger.

Once you can start going over 80-100 stacks consistently you will dominate the chart on any boss aside the tree boss (and even that one you can come out on top with good multi target management).

The biggest challenge is knowing when to use it, cause every extra second you can stay in means a lot more dps, cause it just grows exponentially near the end.

I leveled up my Priest but man Shadow without gear is zero fun to play. I'm not really a fan of StM so I haven't really touched it since hitting 110.

Blizzard doesn't need to worry about updating/adding new vanilla content. At least not anytime soon.

If and when it comes to that, who knows how live will look and even then who is not to say some of the original members wouldn't be interested at trying their hand at a WoW reboot using vanilla. This part is pretty much fantasy, but the fact that Blizzard can have successful legacy servers without new content/QOL is not.

1) Put servers up.
2) Done?

Alright, I know it's not that simple, but they don't need pump new content into it. I'm not suggesting they'll support two MMO's at once.

Two on the left are from farming the rat mount on day one/two.

One on the right is a salty elemental shaman (from the guild who got server first Xavius Mythic) who was teamed up with a balance druid guildy & doing that PvP quest in southern Highmountain. I told him we didn't have to fight, they ignored, died a few times, then whispered me.

Fun times.

That said, I do think there's a few groups calling out for Vanilla. First off are the people who joined any time after Jan 2007 - Even in early TBC, you couldn't escape vanilla greatness talks, so people obviously wanna see it for themselves. Then you have folk who enjoy a decent grind (and please, don't compare the T0.5 journey to world quests - One is/was epic, one is busy work).

Mostly, though, I think the folks calling for vanilla just want that old school sense of community. Your realm used to be an important thing, but now it's just a lifeless shell where you find a guild & ignore the world.

Still, I've no interest in playing on Legacy servers myself, and can't see them coming in the near future as Legion is sitting on >10m subscribers... BUT. One day, it'll happen. Just like RuneScape - When it makes business sense to do so, they'll do it.

I think RuneScape is a bit of a false equivalency though, by the time they added the legacy version it was already what, 2013? And the current version of RuneScape was far from the number one MMO, meaning that most of the people still playing were doing so because of some sense of nostalgia, the only reason they hadn't already moved on to newer games. That is the perfect population for something like legacy servers. As opposed to WoW, which is still technically the "top" MMO, most of the people currently paying for their subscription are not the people who want legacy servers. Also, again, isn't both RS2007 and current RS free? Sure, you CAN pay for them, but the price of free to start brings a lot of people in initially, which is the majority of my point. Again, I contend Nostalrius wouldn't have had 1/20th the population if it was $15 a month. Vanilla is awesome for the price of free, but $15 a month is steep if all you want are vanilla servers.

You are right with many other points, such as sense of community in vanilla. I actually met people back then in dungeons and stuff while levelling, and kept up with them afterwards, it was really nice. Though as someone who played from the day beta came out, I never felt anything about Vanilla was "epic". I hit 60 by AoEing a pack of Dire Maul lashers for the 4,623rd time, pretty far from epic. It definitely did feel like a significant accomplishment though, but as someone who just did Loremaster for the 1-60 content, I think the currently designed 1-60 zones are a hundred times better than release vanilla zones were. To each their own, and we will see if it ever happens. I hope I'm wrong and Blizz releases legacy and people play it, but again my cynicism really makes me feel like having to pay to access these servers will mean they quickly become a ghost town.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Maybe I should've mentioned this but the batch of sims I posted have 26 Artifact levels. This is important for Frost since it includes both Chilled to the Core and Black Icicles, traits almost no one has tested in real situations because:

1) They're either far (Chilled to the Core) or clearly suboptimal (Black Icicles)
2) There aren't many hardcore Frost mage AP grinders, all the progression nerds rolled Fire

The simulation is much more valuable to me than any of those log rankings. A lot of of the dedicated Frost mage theorycrafters have been speculating over how important Chilled to the Core is to our DPS potential and no amount of parses will actually reveal this until players actually get it.

That's why I said in the future, when the time is right. When the main game still has 10.1m subscribers, fracturing the playerbase in any way would be a very daft idea. Say WoW has <1m subs in 5 years time, and Blizzard can put up a few servers with minimal effort & charge $10 a month. If it turns a good bit of profit in the short term, even if it's not sustained, it's still worth doing when there's nothing to really lose.

Only thing I can think of that could possibly keep it from happening is if Vanilla doesn't want to play nice on systems by the time it makes sense to put Vanilla servers up. Given how strong WoW seemingly is, we could be talking another decade before they even discuss the idea properly.

Doesn't have to fracture the player base. I don't know why everyone takes this as a fact. Sure, some people will leave live for legacy, but the two games are different enough to attract a different crowd. Instead of WoW having 10.1M subs, they could be looking at 13M.

Legacy servers could also server as a nice retreat for live players during content droughts.

I get super salty when I get killed in PvP, so I tend to remove myself from those situations because other people shouldn't have to put up with my temper. (I'm also terrible company when playing boardgames)

That being said, those dudes from your screenshots are on a level way beyond me. A cancer threat? sheesh.

Patchwerk simcraft ranks are terrible and nobody should ever use them to "rank" any specs at all, cause the last time blizz made a Patchwerk fight was Patchwerk.

Just look at the "last 2 weeks" ranks on Warcraftlogs from Mythic EN in comparison:

Shadow is one of the best right now, but on that list you posted it's middle of the pack.

You criticize him for post that and then you post logs for overall?

Fury looks pretty strong on your chart but if you check the logs per boss, you'll see Fury is doing piss-poor. According to that, Frost DKs are actually better than Unholy and that's not even remotely true.

And if you want to look at overall then heroic makes a lot more sense since there's actually a good amount of parses for each spec: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/statistics/10#metric=bossdps&sample=7&difficulty=4

Also vast majority of WoW players, myself included, aren't pushing their classes to the limit anyway. So you don't need to wait for a buff to greatly increase your dps. Learn to use CDs on time, learn which stats are you most important to your spec, set your addons optimally, learn which talents are best for which encounter, etc.

My nomination for Worst World Quest Award.

I was pissed i took the "complete a wq every 3 days" thing in my class hall without realizing how limited it was. Now that the timer's been dropped to 18 hours, I'm pleased because I'm never actually doing that or the squirrel quest again.

They reallly need to fix the issue of getting combat in the broken isles when there is absolutely nothing around. It is really bugging the hell out of me

Do you have a follower equipped? That was causing random combat bugs for me so I just stopped using followers for that

Did Blizzard ever said if they were planning to up the max ilvl of our champions in a later patch? My top 5 champions are all 850 now, so wondering if I should just sell the Armor Sets I'm getting or not.

Just wanted to show the big difference between simcraft overall and actual overall.

Boss by boss, things look different for sure, but still nothing like those simcraft ranks.

As a DH tank, I lower my bar for regular mythics on purpose (830-835) so undergeared players get a chance at gear progression.

Lol I thought I was the only person to do this. It was brutal for me to find groups as DPs for while (dk). It got to the point where I gave up and rolled a tank. This is a pretty big let down.

You can form your own groups if you play a non-optimal class but the difference in damage potential between say a frost mage and a fire mage in 5 man's is just gross.

I have a frost mage I normally run with and in LFR/Heroics he seems OK but once it ramps up to mythic + 4ish I start doing double his overall damage as the tank. I feel bad for him since he isn't a fan of fire but the difference is just too great and trash clearing is more valuable then boss damage lately in mythic +.

It must be a nightmare to try to make every spec at least useful in PvP, raiding, and mythic but it's lame that there is such a huge difference between classes.

I started a bingo board and put all the hard to find specs on there as I setup groups. I've yet to see a survival hunter poor guys.

Overall is useless anyway considering how the tree boss skews everything for a few classes that do amazing dry aoe fight's with low health adds.

So went into N EN as a guardian druid and it was my first time. WE got all the way to the end, but couldn't beat Xavius.

Now I am pretty happy, but wondering - can I try again or I have to wait for reset?

I think you can run it again, but you wont get any loot from the bosses (except Xavius)

I'm looking for some help. I boosted my character to 100 and did the opening part of Legion. After the opening I ended up back at Stormwind where I had to hand the scroll to the Kings son. The quest glitched and would not work so I abandoned the quest. How the heck do I get it back? If I open the adventure quide it tells me to go to Draenor

Can't tell what's worse - tanks who have no idea what they're doing or the ones who outscale heroics by a large margin so for some reason they feel like they need to pull the entire dungeon

A tip I have for him is:

Splitting Ice over Frozen Touch
Comet Storm over Thermal Void.

His single target suffers but AoE is much better.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Just got the Demo hidden appearance. Not too bad, just a couple of hours farming Eredar Navigators in the ship that Tivos (world quest mob) spawns in.

How big of a single target loss is that?

Around 10-12%.

And if he isn't already doing so, he should be trying to remove all Mastery from his gear and focus entirely on Crit/Haste. Versatility is okay too but not ideal. These are the stat weights for single target though I haven't looked to see if they need to be updated.

INT 1
CRIT 0.9
HASTE 0.83
MASTERY 0.57
VERSATILITY 0.79

How are you doing in mythic+'s dps wise?

When i tank i've started looking at overall damage as my major metric to track how effective people are for speed runs. As frost he's always much lower then me but comet storm may help. I expect efficient dps to atleast be 10-30% higher then me overall.

Haly

190k-200k on bosses, 230k-240k under Lust, 250k-300k for trash packs between 3-4 targets, going down the longer the fight takes.

Don't get me wrong, your Frost mage friend isn't going to start putting out WW/Havoc numbers but he'll be less of a strain on your clear rate.

Overall damage I'm usually behind melee DPS and similar to other casters, though not the AoE specialists like Affliclock.

Not bad. Ran 8 mythics on my brewmaster & got from 800-825 the same day as I dinged 110. Nice 850 Iron relic waiting for that third slot unlock.

I gave up on fire because it's just not fun to play so I feel that.

I feel that way about unholy, after frost being terrible for awhile and me not wanting to tank i caved and did unholy for about a week. It was a clear dps increase in specific situations but I just didn't like the feel of the spec. Frost buffs came out and at the same time I moved into mythic+ where trash damage is a bigger deal and suddenly i'm not as much of a liability when i'm dpsing.

That said finding groups still sucks so i'm tanking more often then not.

looking to move my main to another server...again. Thought Moon Guard would be a good server, but is not for me. Are there any reliable realm population sites available that are up to date? Im looking for the following if you were wondering

region: US

server type: PVE

raiding: Looking for a server with a lot of raiders, even though I never raided it is nice to have that option

population: I want stormwind/dalaran to be overflowing with ppl

alliance or horde: Looking for a server that has somewhat even ratio for ally/horde might play both
