360 Slim - $299. 250GB, built in Wifi. Available now.

Got $150 trade in credit. Bought it full price on amazon should be arriving today.

My gamestop wasn't getting any til july so this made more sense. So with the 150 i got peacewalker and halo reach paid in full.

I really have to vent this. Just got a replacement for the one that stopped reading discs. After having the last one crap out, I decided to move my profile onto a flash drive to avoid recovering if I got another dud. Needless to say, I was never prompted that this would DELETE ALL THE SAVE FILES PRESENT ON THE STICK. Hundreds of hours of Mass Effect and ME2 saves gone, nearly complete Red Dead save gone. I don't feel like playing video games ever again right now.

That sucks.

I returned my opened and used transfer cable to Gamestop today. Obviously I bought it, used it and now returned it. The cashier knew what was up and wasn't sure if he was allowed to take it back, but it's a new accessory so just like anything else you're allowed to return it. He got the manager, the manager gave him a "what the hell is wrong with you it doesn't matter" look/talk and took it back right away.

So yeah. Buy it, use it, return it. It's pretty ridiculous that to be able to use the $300 console I revision I'm buying I have to pay Microsoft, these things should be free anyway.

I looked all over but isn't there suppose to be a free one month of xbl?
I think the way it really works is that any NEW account you create will go Gold for a month. It doesn't work for existing accounts, and it can only be done a few times per console. They pulled the same crap on me when I bought my Elite over a year ago.

Wait, your saves were already on the stick, and the process of moving your profile over to the same stick nuked 'em?

If that's the case, you may be able to use data recovery software to recover the lost data on your PC. It's a long shot, since we may be dealing with weird, proprietary FAT tables, but it's worth looking into.

It sounds like you transferred all the content from your HDD to the stick instead of just moving your profile, so yeah...that deletes (actually overwrites) saves you had on the stick already.

Nah, all the trail games on the HD weren't transferred to the stick, only my profile.

That's right. Do you recommend any software? Never had to recover anything before.

I've only used Stellar Phoenix for work, so I'm not sure how good the trial version will do you, but you should be able to tell from the trial if it will even read the Xbox file system on that thar stick.

If it does, do a full scan on the stick, and let it run over night. It might take a while.

Looks like its finding some stuff. Thanks for the help.

Oh man, if that happens to me, I don't even know what I would do.

I feel your pain though...

man that suks.

I got mine today from Gamestop, I went pre-order it, they didn't give me any grief or try to get me to buy any bundle.

I trade in couple of games and couple of MUs that I don't need anymore and end up paying just $41.00 for this trade. Considered I have that Elite for almost 3 years so it's going to go out of warranty soon it's seems like prudent thing to do.

hmm to buy an arcade or shell out for a slim. really not sure what i should do.

my refurb is gonna die eventually and the warranty will be up in a few months.

honestly, thinking about this too hard pisses me off. i'd like to just wait for the arcade revision but since that won't take my upgraded 60 gb hdd (THANKS MS!!) i'm SOL and pretty much forced to go for an elite.

this sucks.

Thinking about upgrading my old launch 20GB to a new slim.
How does the game save transferring work if i have to trade in my old console and HDD? Can all of this be copied to USB now? Then i can just redownload my XBLA games?

That is correct and do the license transfer online if you want to play XBLA games off-line.

It's oddly soothing.

I just use the controller for the opening of the disc tray, but I do love the start up sound.

The most important thing that you want to transfer is 'Game Saves'. Other than that there is Music that you might want to transfer but I don't think you could do that.

Looking at one of the user who posted in this page did an error and lost his saves, make sure you do that thing carefully. Especially you said you have a launch 20GB, so I am thinking you played quite a few games.

All the content you bought from the Marketplace, just re-download it after you transferred the DRM to the new console at this site - www.xbox.com/drm.

Strange....are all the USB ports being detected? For me, the Xbox only reads 2 usb devices, no matter how many I have in.
What USB devices are you using? I believe there's still a max two USB flash drive limit that can be used at any time.

Just standard pen drives (or whatever they're called), varies from 2-4 gigs. I'm using them for mulitmedia. I have a bunch of them, but only two are showing up at a time, no matter what slots I'm using.

This has had me worried, but everything I am seeing about the transfer content wizard, or moving manually shouldn't have deleted your stuff. That sucks, but is still really strange.

That's right. Microsoft has limited to two the number of USB drives you can use for storage on the Xbox 360. Perhaps to preserve sales of their proprietary hard drives?

I have an 8GB thumbstick but my girlfriend loaned me her 16GB badboy. I moved everything I needed and more--probably 10 gigs worth--and it worked like a charm.

P.S. WTF is up with GAF lately? It's moving like a snail.

Yea because MS limits it to two at anytime. At least that is what I recall when they announced the whole USB thing.

It will only detect up to 2 devices at a time.

I am waiting for the inevitable 360 sku this fall that includes kinect before upgrading. Hopefully that sku is priced at 299.99.

But might that not be an Arcade, sans hard drive and wireless? I doubt the console in that package will be as full-featured as this one.

Chittagong, the consensus so far seems positive. People are digging the reduced noise of the system as well as the roomy hard drive.

I like the new controller, as well. Haven't bought a new pad in a while, but the model that comes with the new Xbox seems smoother and the D-pad works better than my old ones.

I also like the new touch-sensitive power and eject buttons on the console itself.

Some have complained about the wireless N not operating at 5GHz or something, and I haven't been paying much attention to this, but I gather you can set your network to 2.4GHz or just use G.

The case of the system gets pretty hot right above those chips, but I'm heartened by the fact that this console will shut itself down if the temp gets too high.

I upgraded from a 120GB Elite (using the trade-in deal at Gamestop) and I'm happy I did.

Hook the new 360s up this morning and wow this thing really is quiet. Only thing is the HD DVD drive look so out of place, probably time to get rid of that thing anyway.

I've was wondering if anyone knew what version the hdmi port is? I was thinking it is 1.2, 1.3 would be nice there are some possible visual benefits.
1.3 wouldn't give you any visual benefits anyway. 1080p will still be the maximum resolution, and no game (or pretty much anything) would use higher than 24bit colour.
