Anyone know a good guide that explains some of the basics? I just
ate the dragon egg
and I have a handle on things, but there's just some shit I still don't get. Great fun though, I can't imagine ever playing through it on a console but on the Vita it works perfectly!

The in-game menu has a Help section, which is a decent start. If you have any specific questions, we'd be happy to help.

I don't quite understand how the Item World works. Should I be levelling up weapons or just buy new ones? Also how do you do a triple or quad team attack? Any other basic tips would be helpful. Thanks :)

The Item World is alot more important in the post-game than in the main game, so don't worry about it too much yet. Still, if you get stuck during the main game and need to grind, consider popping into the Item World for a bit. It's a nice way to beef up the item's stats while obtaining EXP, mana, HL, and new items at the same time. But eventually the item will get outdated, so don't get too attached to it.

A quad team attack needs to be set up like this. The chance of participating in a team attack will be displayed in the top left corner. It helps if the characters are in the same club and seated next to each other.

Code:
 E
ACA
 A

E = enemy
A = ally
C = character who initiates attack

Yeah, buying from the shop is perfectly fine. You can also steal stuff from enemies. Usually they have nothing special, but "boss"-like enemies may have superior equipment.

I plan on picking this up second hand, there isn't an online code or something to be redeemed is there?

Man, this game needs a better manual. I'm progressing through the story just find right now, but I can't help but feel like I'm missing something, or should be preparing my characters more effectively.

I would just Google "Disgaea 3 beginner tips" or something like that. Faster than an in-game tutorial and generally more informative.

Please tell me I'm not the only one still addicted to this game? I'm doing all the Raspberyl story right now, and spending more time in the Item world, I just wish I could find a quick level up trick, the one I saw with teh ninja just doesn't work and costs waaay too much mana..

Not the only one. I am grinding Raspberyl mode for traps' right now.

I have a Galaxy mage at 3837 - House of ordeals 4 and a warslug magichange really go a long way in boosting a magic user. House of ordeals 4 goes a long way to level any character actually. Mao is 1848 with right now with 0 reincarnations at the moment. The majority of my characters are close to level 1000 by grinding one character in HoO -4 and having the club that gets xp from those they sit by all around the character doing the grinding.

As far as Trapezohedrons go, once you get Asagi in your party (Mao post game) then go to beryl mode and start stealing the Trapezohedrons from the "boss" units on each map as each one should have a trap on them after you recruit Asagi in post game.

Damn, I'm doing Rasberyl mode right now, but don't have Asagi yet, maybe I went to the wrong post game first....

Only real load time I have noticed is the initial load. but you get to play with a prinny in the sixaxis controls. Haven't seen the DD version though, I have retail.
You can also touch/tap on the prinny to make it explode prematurely.

My only grinding advice is that if you have characters past the level of 1000 or so, you should enter a legendary piece of junk, and go moderately deep- deep enough where you get stages where you have to put your characters up on those special platforms that require some magic number of characters.

You should (eventually) find statisticians and other specialists (that you should then duplicate) to make level grinding go faster.

Playing through the Rasbryl stuff still and
Sir Hero Aurum
tried to join my classroon, but it was full, is there a way to still get him as a playable character?

Ah the first post was helpful for the new content to vita. I did order this with the white vita so hopefully will get it today. Ready to actually go forth and get a platinum in this. Though I guess I still have to play through and win normally to get say Axel etc?

So I'm trying to pick this up again but it's so hard. I'm on chapter 2 (Mao's Heart, Childhood Memories) and everyone but Almaz and Mao are getting one shotted. The story characters are spamming specials and I don't really know what to do.

Is there any overpowered character or anything I can unlock to make these battles go by easier? I kind of just want to experience the story because this game is really hard.

You shouldn't have any problem, and it's not necessary to grind at this point.

Abuse of the cross-power special attacks between characters, and also remember that you can move a character to support a regular attack of another character... and then press circle to return him to the previous position without spending a movement.

Maybe your problem is that the level where you are it has a high puzzle component, and you are facing it wrong. Check a guide if there is any special block switch that may help.

Aside from Almaz and Mao, all my other characters do nothing. I think it's because they are like level 3~5 and the enemies are like level 10+...

i bought this at release but didn't end up getting far. the mechanics just seemed way too complicated for me. fast forward to 2013 and i made my first real attempt at an srpg, fire emblem. i played through it and really enjoyed the gameplay.

i restarted disgaea 3 last night and played for a few hours. it still seems very complicated but i'm really enjoying it! i guess fire emblem was the perfect beginner's step into this genre (i played on casual mode). i also thought perma-death was the norm in srpgs (shows how much i know) so it's nice to see that this game doesn't work like that.

This game is on sale on psn atm in europe, bought it a few days ago.

Surprised to see this thread hasn't seen a post in like 2 years.

Loved disgaea 2 and this one seems just as good so far (only done 3 chapters so far)
People who need something to play on their dust collector vita should really buy this while it's on sale, disgaea is the penultimate handheld game imo.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Finally beat the game today.

How do I unlock the extra characters? Specifically the Disgaea 1 cast?
