I was just about to go into the shower when it started I tried putting on my pants but I kept losing balance, I said fuck it and went downstairs in my boxers, fortunately my building has one of those hydraulic systems so it was all good. I'm staying in the lobby and one person that lives here just received two people whose apartment building went down. I love living in condesa but I'm moving to the south of the city, fuck this.
Hope you get a hold of your friend. You tried using WhatsApp? That's what I used to get a hold of people there.
I am super nervous now that I am watching all the videos and images, I have friends in a lot of those places and can't communicate with them, all lines are saturated, I feel the urge to go help, but I live 45min from there and transports are closing and there seems to be chaos everywhere so I don't know how much of a good idea will be going right now, my father is a cab driver and we haven't been able to reach him in a while, he was safe during the quake tho but he is close to Coyoacan and my anxiety is growing the more the time pases. What to do gaf

I kinda doubt a building that old is up to modern building code standards. Hopefully all the residents or offices knew to get out.

My family and friends in Puebla are ok. My aunt told us that some of the historic buildings in Puebla collapsed or were damaged.

That's terrifying. It made me realize how something like that could actually happen during an earthquake at my kid's school. It left me without words, i hope everyone's family is ok.
Right that has to be it. I really hope to God people evacuated immediately.

My 65 year old friend is Ok just talked with him, he was very close to the epicenter but at least he is safe
Yes, whatsapp is how we found out all our family is safe (family group). Hope he's alright.

How come this one seems worse than the one that was an 8.0 or so 2 weeks ago?

Last one was further from the capital if i recall correctly, the other one damaged other cities.

The other ones epicentre was off the coast. This is like a two hour drive away from the capital.

Depth as well. This was shallower (closer to the surface) than the one the other week...and as others have mentioned it was closer to the city.

It must be a terrifying thing to live through but so far neither in 1985 or in 2017's big Mexico City earthquakes did tall buildings collapse. It's the shorter, older 3-5 story buildings that get destroyed more.

I am really glad to hear your friend is ok.
Such an awful and scary situation.
My heart goes to everyone, and I want everyone to be safe and be careful before going into buildings.
Seeing the videos of entire buildings collapsing without a chance is so frightening.
