While this solution seems obvious, I highly doub that it will be one for the Amon problem. For him it's not just the council which is opressing non-benders, it's every bender and he will not stop just because he gets some representation. And the way I see it, it's the same with many of his supporters.

I mean they'll arrest Amon and his followers, then put non-benders on the council to calm down the less radical Equalists so that their numbers shrink to something more manageable instead of a revolutionary threat.

I misused that word, actually.

What I mean to say is that it seems contrived because on the very day that they need it most, all the ferret's money problems are solved by this beautiful, rich, generous, kind woman who falls in love at first sight with Mako. What are the odds of that?

You're all assuming that it was a real accident. Why is nobody considering that Sato sent his daughter to bump into Mako so he could get a hold over Korra's friends?

Hmm, that might work. But again that assumes that the reconciliation of the northern and southern tribes has progressed to the point of a unified nation. And we haven't seen anything to indicate that so far.

Given the current info, the most logical reason is that the council recognizes individual nations. The earth kingdom, big as it is, has always been represented as a single unified state. So they just got to roll with senate rules instead.

I imagine if a section of the earth kingdom had secceded and instituted their own government they would be represented as well.

Pretty much. Since southern and northern watertribe are distinctly different and probably differ in their opinions as well, it only makes sense to have both represented.

I mean they'll arrest Amon and his followers, then put non-benders on the council to calm down the less radical Equalists so that their numbers shrink to something more manageable instead of a revolutionary threat.

Still seems very convenient and easy, I don't know.

Because not everyone is ready for that level of tinfoil hattery just yet.

Nobody considered it? Everybody and his mother suspects Asami in this thread, which saddens me greatly. I'd bet a lot that she is sincere in what she's doing. There just hasn't been the slightest hint for this so far.

One thing about Korra I don't get is that she's had martial arts training most of her life from probably some of the best teachers in the world and yet she's getting wrecked by low level grunts. I understand she's probably never had to fight chi-blockers before but I'm still finding it hard to believe she can't adapt and actually put up a fight.

The point is that she was too reliant on her bending for combat. Chi blockers never had bending so it makes sense that their training would make them better at non-bending combat.

Also, bending is most effective in combat when you put some distance between yourself and your opponent. Chi blocks like to get in close where it's really hard to aim bending attacks. Benders normally fight with more distance between each other, which is what Korra is used to doing.

Is there any info on the limits of bending in the world of avatar?
Like... If youre an earthbender, why walk when you could just sort of make tbe ground propel you forward.
Basically im just wondering how broken bending could become...theoretically.

Like anything you do, you'll become tired after a while. So obviously you can't just use it infinitely.

Right but that should have been fairly obvious after the first battle that they prefer close range combat and so Korra should maintain her distance. I guess the dodging and distance component of her fighting could have been the air component of her training yet it still seems weird that knowing they rely on close quarters that a master martial artist can't adapt. Even then I can't imagine her not having extensive hand to hand combat. Oh well, it's a TV show I guess.

The MakoxKorra fans must've committed hara kiri by now =V
Great ep. IMO, but I really hope Korra gets over it.
and did she witness some of Aang's past in the flashback near the end of the ep.?

I don't think there's any rational explanation for Asami being bad right now, except that Makorra shippers want it to be the case. To hell with good and consistent storytelling, Asami is a fucking bitch!

Personally, I'm going to root for Makolin (BolinxMako) just to freak out all the shippers in this thread (I doubt it'll work). :3

I may even dabble in some fan art...

Yes. Adult Aang, Toph and Sokka were all seen in the vision.

Just remember to not post any of it here, a mod was in here some time ago and told us to keep the shipping stuff to a minimum and only talk about it where appropriate. Which is NOT the case with your ship :p

Something odd. I was showing my wife the older Aang in the flashback in Ep 4, and paused it just as he was zooming in toward the camera right toward his eye. I paused it too late and managed to see something weird going on in his eye. I did it again and noticed there is some sort of lettering that appears for a brief moment. So brief, you literally wouldn't notice if you were watching it normal. Maybe someone with a little more know-how can screen cap it with a little more clarity. I don't know if I'm seeing things, but perhaps it may turn out to be something that someone here who has a little more knowledge with the lore of show that might recognize what it might be.

Avatar-Sleuth-GAF are a go?

Interesting if true. Just tried to see it myself but I couldn't find anything :/

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I like how the counsel man manipulated Korra to do his bidding. BTW having two water benders on the counsel is unfair since of the other bender have one on the counsel.

Do you think, if you were a southern water tribesman, you could EVER let someone convince you that a Northern water tribesman should represent you on the Council? They know nothing about your plight! They come from the other end of the planet, for crying out loud!

The minute she showed up I assumed she was evil, and playing Mako like a piano. It just follows established TV tropes too well not to be true.

See, that's exactly why I think it won't happen. If there was a subtle hint somewhere, then maybe, but like this it just won't happen.

The mods are just haters who are denying Mako and Bolin's obvious love. I mean, Bolin even said it towards the end of Episode 3. :3

Alas, I will comply.

If you're drawing gay art and there's no Asami and Korra you are dead to me
I did a Google image search for Asami Sato and found a Japanese porn star, a rather pretty Asami cosplayer (already!?!) and some Korrasami shipping fanart, none of which I'm posting here. :p

The market for that kind of smut is already full, unlike the true love that is Makolin.

That's precisely why I think it's not going to happen. I'd be a bit disappointed if it did.

I'm not a "shipper" or whatever, but Asami having ulterior motives just seems to make sense given the way she was introduced. A really hot girl just happens to bump into you while you're walking down the street and her father just happens to be really rich, and just happens to decide to sponsor your team right when you really need it.

Come on son.

God forbid they introduce a new main character four episodes in.
Plus the way they showed it, she was already speeding along way before she could even see Mako. Did she just drive up an down the road the whole day and hope to hit Mako?

I get that people think it's too much of a coincidence, but considering how TLA handled things, there would at least have been a little hint towards Asami being evil somewhere. I refuse to believe she is until the show outright states it.

And if they do it, then it will be like Obsessed said.
If Asami is evil, I bet she'll actually fall in love with Mako and shift to the good side.

The real question is, why does the Southern Water Tribe and the Northern Water Tribe each get a representative, when the Earth Kingdom's population and land mass should dwarf them both and they only get one? It seems really bizarre that the Water Tribes get extra representation on the council. Is it because they decided that the 5th spot would be taken by a representative of the current Avatar's national affiliation?

The United Republic Council is set up so that the city gains the insight and cultural knowledge of each of the five nations, regardless of any one nation's size or influence.

That's obviously going to be the final solution at the end of the Amon story arc. They will say that while he had some good points, he went about solving the problem in the wrong way. Then they will add non-benders to the ruling council to make life more fair for all citizens and with this act, remove a lot of the feeling of oppression that fuels the Equalist movement.

The only problem with that is that it's racist. If it was made so that there's two council positions for each nation, one for a bender and one for a non-bender, it would just solidify the idea that benders and non-benders should be held to different standards. In other words benevolent discrimination.

The only thing that makes her weird now is what was given about her having another side. Its interesting it wasn't hinted somewhat during her appearance and i believe its later showing is gonna make people (except those shippers since they are irrational :p) more skeptical.

we'll see though

Same reason I also suspect her. That and her falling for Mako so quick without any build up at all. Don't forget Asami's character was modeled after Lust from Fullmetal Alchemist, who used her beauty to manipulate men.

The costume design in the series has always been pretty awesome, but some of the designs in Korra are freaking amazing. Everyone looks so good, all of the time.

I just realized that Aang didn't mention his parents once in the entire series. Was raising children a community endeavor in Air Nomad culture?

This is what I thought too, but I think you can make a strong case for either side.

I think the way she looks is the giveaway. It's not just that she's attractive, it's the kind of attractive they went with. She looks just a little too much like the typical James Bond trap lady.

They purposely didn't make her look like this:
