80s style synth-pop/electro synth/cyberpunk music

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but Ultra Sheriff's Galactic Fame is really good but might have more of a weird Flash Gordon vibe than a cyberpunk one. There is definitely a dose of 80's to be had though.

actually i think the previous EP was more in the vein of this, crazy stuff :D

I've always been interested in this genre, and never really knew where to look. This thread has given me a pretty solid starting point, thanks! :)

By the way, not sure if Dance with the Dead (formerly Jaypeau) have been posted. Apparently they're releasing their first album pretty soon. Pretty awesome duo, check them out:

For sure. I've been following Jaypeau for months now. Excited for the album!

Here's the Soundcloud. Has a lot of stuff. https://soundcloud.com/dancewiththedead/

https://soundcloud.com/perturbator (NSFW album art for one of the tracks)

Perturbator is excellent, definitely one of my current favorites. Also, I don't recall who pointed me towards them but the record label Aphasia Records basically only consists of 80's sounding synth artists.

I only have the SoundCloud ap available right now, is there somewhere to buy Perturbator's albums so I can listen offline? Amazing, amazing stuff.

I love bringing this up in every game soundtrack thread I can, but it seems pretty appropriate here.

Neotokyo mod, got a soundtrack by a guy called Ed Harrison. Was just a small multiplayer mod for UT/HL, but it ended up having what I think is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. This IS cyberpunk music to me. 2 whole discs of amazeballsness. Its not particularly 80's or electro, but people might like it if you've never heard of it before. Has a nice eastern cyberpunk flavour that is just so good.

Just in case it hasn't been mentioned yet you should check out NewRetroWave and Maniac Synth on YouTube, they're both compilation channels for this exact kind of stuff.

While not in the genre some of you might be aware of Celldweller. Klayton of Celldweller and Varien teamed up to form a group called Scandroid. It's definitely not pure future synth but it has the elements. As a fan of Celldweller this is pretty cool.

I endorse this post. Never played the mod, but a colleague introduced me to that album awhile ago and it's very good.

Thank you for this thread. Terminator 1 soundtrack got me interested in the genre, and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon solidified my love for it.

Can't get enough of this stuff. Is there any good retrowave with vocals added?

a lot of the stuff with vocals goes funk disco pretty quickly, but i can recommend

Glass Candy:

and Kristine's remixes are amazing:

And, well, most of the original artists from the 80's did this stuff with vocals :D

also check out some Synthpop artists like Mind in a Box:

Firestorm
Nemesis

Best place to find more seem to be Spotify since most of their songs are not on youtube.

The German "Rammstein" voice really turns me off. But firestorm's intro is REALLY good.

I really dislike it when electronic songs sound like dance music. I can add my approval to the the NeoTokyo (unused) soundtrack for that reason.
