Hana-chan, developed by electrical equipment and software venture Next Technology, takes a whiff, measures it, then reacts by passing out, cozying up or by assuming an alert posture.

Hey look, it's smelling this guy's foot:

Oh, now it's dead.

Relevant details about odor sensor and how Hana behaves:

The dog's nose is equipped with an odor detection sensor that can sniff out and gauge how strong your body odor is -- or if you're wearing too much perfume.

If the odor is almost nonexistent, the fluffy white canine cozies up to its owner, tail wagging. If there is a moderately bad odor, she assumes a barking posture, her head up.

If a foul odor is particularly strong, she falls over on one side.

The dog uses gestures because it was too offensive for it to say, "This guy smells like an asshole, he kinda looks like one too." /jk

The robot communicates with physical gestures for a reason. If it were to give a numerical readout of what it smells, users might get offended.

Hana is not an acronym, it's just wordplay for nose.

"Hana," by the way, is Japanese for "nose."

Squeeze this dog and it will make you smell somewhat acceptable.

The company is now aiming to develop a model equipped with a deodorant function that would be sold to the general public. This model is expected to be rolled out on Nov. 29 at the International Robot Exhibition, in Tokyo.

This robot should go to conventions and the owner should observe the reactions of this robot when they are in various convention rooms.

It would be interesting to observe the reactions if the owner of this robot goes to a room at a convention and the robot falls over and the owner yells "Something smells awful in here!!!"

This would replace the woman in my life.

Also, I'm sure this puppy could be lowkey racist depending on who it's made for.
