And the loss of his son. In fact I couldn't tell you had a more stressful, shitty life: him or his wife. He had to deal with the loss of his son and the civil war. She had to deal with the death of three of her sons and her husband, and spent the latter years of her life in a mental health home because she couldn't handle the grief of all of that loss.
