4 sequels seems a bit nutty, but I'm definitely interested in seeing what Cameron can pull off.

I would wager its probably not a real 4 sequels. Likely 3 movies with the third split into Part 1 and Part 2 like Hollywood tends to do these days to squeeze as much money out as possible.

Yes. Extremely excited. I've been waiting since 2009 and dealt with multiple heart- breaking delays. The only movies I really really look forward to are Cameron's. Nobody is on his level when it comes to providing sheer entertainment.

$1 billion is more than reasonable for 4 modern blockbuster summer tentpole movies. That's an average budget per film of $250 million which is pretty typical for a big movie budget these days.

Do people really think these movies won't make loads of fucking money even if they gross less as time goes on ?
I don't expect any of them to make as much as Avatar but still people will watch them .

Actually I think $250 is on the really high side. It's not particularly uncommon but it's still up there.

Considering that cameron writes complete script and draws movie from beginning to an end before shooting, I'm quite optimistic about the budget and quality of what we will see on screen.

Hoping for 60fps HFR with HDR as it is supported by home equipment and at 30fps for older formats.

I just got back from Disney, and people were waiting 3 hours to do the 5 minute Pandora VR attraction. It was one of the craziest experiences I've ever had. Everyone in the park was going nuts over Pandora shit.

YEAH BUT HOW MANY PEOPLE STILL TALK ABOUT AVATAR?

Maybe if we make more than 8 threads a year asking if anybody still talks about Avatar, we'll finally work out if anybody does.

You know, interestingly, more and more lately, as I've noticed, there seems to be a revival of interest on Avatar, which is very timely.

I haven't seen avatar since the theater but I live in Orlando and know how insanely popular the ride is at Animal Kingdom. I'm excited to see how he revolutionizes cinema this time. Give me an immersive experience. I trust him to make an amazing spectacle out of this.

He does. The scripts have been locked and the entire production timeline has been planned out. Which is why they have now started principal photography.

Did both rides back in June. Rope dropped Flight of Passage and only waited 30 minutes, and fastpassed the River Journey. Flight was legit the best theme park ride I've ever experienced, and the queue was just as good. The floating avatar animatronic in the tank was the most surreal thing I've ever seen. And I'm convinced the shaman at the end of the river ride was a real na'vi. Disney's imagineers and Cameron are magic.

I was so taken with the experience that I paid the $80 to have my face scanned and had a custom avatar figure made for me.

There was a time I would have agreed with you because I loved so much of the man’s previous work but Avatar was fucking garbage save the FX.

No hyperbole intended, the film was insipid, banal and downright stupid.

How anyone could spend that much money on cutting-edge technology and have that many amazing resources only to write a script that derivative and tepid blows my mind.

The point is, I'm a believer that there is much left in the ip. Cameron still has a vision of how to create a spectacle.

Also, to be clear the star wars stuff barely had lines in the morning, and were 40-60 minutes most of the time. The avatar stuff was never less than 120 minutes, and I saw 190 minutes at one point.

what's been the impact of avatar? In movies? In sci-fi? Besides from the ride in disneyworld, is it really the cultural phenomenon people try to sell? You know the anecdotal evidence isn't doing too much for me.

Still a billion for the "4" (lol) sequels is ok.

I think it definitely jumpstarted the whole sci-fi film revival. There have been a ton of sci-fi movies since Avatar that I doubt ever would have been given the greenlight were it not for Avatar's success.

Im really hoping it pushes new refinements and research into cinematography at 48fps. Someone has to start this shit, and while Cameron is an ass, he is definitely capable of kick starting it should he commit to HFR.

"That's all I have been doing as of late, searching the Internet for more info about 'Avatar.' I guess that helps. It's so hard I can't force myself to think that it's just a movie, and to get over it, that living like the Na'vi will never happen. I think I need a rebound movie," Elequin posted.

"Ever since I went to see 'Avatar' I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na'vi made me want to be one of them. I can't stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it," Mike posted. "I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in 'Avatar.' "

"When I woke up this morning after watching Avatar for the first time yesterday, the world seemed ... gray. It was like my whole life, everything I've done and worked for, lost its meaning," Hill wrote on the forum. "It just seems so ... meaningless. I still don't really see any reason to keep ... doing things at all. I live in a dying world."
