Remember when DD s1 came out and there were already subtle hints/references to Iron Fist. Marvel Netflix started on such a high note that it became my most anticipated of all the series, now look where we are. Reading that they downplayed the magic/fantastical elements is pretty sad.

Yeah I was trying to also find a reason to accept the casting which was maybe at least the costume will look good. Marvel disappointing me so much with this show.

Not sure why a show with a completely different cast (well, except for Rosario Dawn's signature cameo) and different director has anything to do with this show aside from being Marvel

Lots of comments make it sound like Luke Cage isn't that great. With Iron Fist being garbage, and with so many other shows to watch, why would I waste my time watching these two shows. I'll watch Defenders for sure, and if it turns out great maybe I'll revisit these two shows at that time.

Sounds like they could be embarrassed by the source material which is pretty much the last thing I would expect considering how much the colorfulness of their IPs has lead to a lot of Marvel's success compared to a lot of other studios that would shy away from it and try to make it more "realistic" before they arrived on the scene.

Embrace the crazy, don't run away from it.

Comics Alliance ‘Iron Fist’ Review: Like ‘Batman Begins,’ If Bruce Wayne Was an Idiot Man-Child

As a lead-in to The Defenders, the hope was that Iron Fist could lean into its more mystical elements, but the end result feels much closer to a spaced-out retelling of Batman Begins, minus the fact that Jones’ Danny Rand lacks any of the self-awareness or purpose of Bruce Wayne, and, frankly, comes across as a petulant brat most of the time. Without Alfred to ground him, and no urgent mission to focus the early episodes, we wind up with three shows worth of Danny wandering into people’s personal space, presumptuously expecting their embrace, and attempting to reclaim a corporate majority shareholder position that – by his own admission! – he has no idea what to do with.

The degree to which Danny fails to comprehend how he comes across as crazy or condescending is staggering. He almost literally pulls the “K’un L’un … You’ve probably never heard of it” at one point.

Seems like it might be the first outright bad thing Marvel has put out (I personally really liked Thor: The Dark World, and season 2 of Agent Carter whilst pretty weak, it was still enjoyable a lot of the time). I am a pretty huge fan of the MCU so I will probably still watch this, but it is still pretty disappointing to see the reviews this is getting.

Hopefully they bounce back strongly with The Defenders and The Punisher.

- Rolling Stone: 'Iron Fist': Why Netflix's New Marvel Show Is a Kick in the Head.

Finn Jones, a.k.a. Margaery Tyrell's brother Loras from Game of Thrones, plays Danny as a case of a secret identity that might be just too well disguised – because he's so totally devoid of charisma, more cub than lone wolf. With his scruffy beard and dazed "who, me?" eyes, Jones could be one of the twinkling boy-men who populated Hollywood comedies a decade ago, except now the party's over and he can't understand why bad hombres keep trying to kill him. It might have been shrewd to play the hippie hacky-sack man-child angle for laughs – a kung fu avenger trapped in the body of a schlub from The Hangover Part IV: Return To Vegas. But Iron Fist has no humor either, so it ends up just looking like a superhero drama where they forgot to invite the superhero.

There are connections between all the Netflix Marvel shows – like Rosario Dawson, who returns as nurse Clare Temple. But unlike its urban do-gooder brethren, the series has no personality. Where Jessica Jones digs into sexual trauma and Luke Cage plays off the historic agony and glory of Harlem, Iron Fist's hero can't seem to muster any inner turmoil beyond the occasional harshed vibe. There doesn't seem to be much of anything going on his skull. His mystic Zen quotes go over like a Wayne's World set-up minus the punch line. Jones' Danny has a unintentionally comic way of walking away from a Daredevil-style combat scene with a hurt expression that says "Whoooa, I hate when that happens." In a perfect TV world, he'd get a Broad City crossover episode where Danny and Abbi have a romantic date with some cosmic brownies and Phish bootlegs.

So who is this hippie dude with the mysterious power to punch through walls, jump over speeding cars and kick ninja assassins in the face? Is it a miracle? Or a scam? Danny can't seem to give anyone a straight answer, declaring, "If you wish to see the truth, hold no opinions. That's a Zen saying."

When white people think Chinatown, they think gift shops, pawn shops, dry cleaners, and restaurants. Which is fair because that's where all the tourists go and where the foot traffic isn't.

When I think Chinatown, I think throngs of middle-aged and old ladies with tiny carts on the sidewalk crowding around produce bins in Chinese groceries and markets.
