Destiny 2 PC performance thread

I'm considering building a new PC aiming for 4k gaming with 60 fps in mind for D2. Out of curiosity what ballpark total cost should I expect? (I don't have a 4k monitor). I'm assuming something around $1.5k - 2.5k?

Vega 56 is the cheapest GPU that will handle Destiny 2 at 4K 60fps (just turn down DOF to high and Ambient Occlusion to HBAO). That and a 6 core Ryzen ought to do it.

Vega 56 - $400
Ryzen 1600 - $200
Mobo - $100
16GB of DDR4 - $125
500GB SSD - $150
4-5TB HDD - $100
PSU - $50
Case - $75
KB & M - $100

So you're looking at ~$1300 plus the monitor.

Isnt this game cpu light? Is be surprised if a core i3 wouldnt suffice for 60 fps. He could cut down the price by a couple hundred between that and a cheaper MB. Can also get a basic kb+m for like 30$. Ssd isnt needed that saves another $150

Destiny 2 uses up to 8 cores. Also, buying a 4 core CPU, you're really limiting the long term potential as more and more games are using more than 4. 6 is minimum in 2017 IMO, 8 is ideal. And I would never build a computer without an SSD as of 2015 or so. The difference in response on everything is huge. Lastly, he could save some on the KB & M but why spend $1000+ on a PC and then cheap out on the part you touch every time you use it? Just spend a lil bit more and get something that feels nice.

The build is already coming out in the lower range of what he expected, I wouldn't cheap out more personally.

Thanks that's a pretty helpful place to start! I honestly will probably stick to Nvidia for now even though I hear great things about the Vega. Does anyone have a good 4k monitor guide I can take a look at? I'm capable of doing my own research but am working right now and if anyone has any good references that'd be helpful.

I dunno though, my 4-core i7 6700K handles this game beautifully and it's not even overclocked.

edit: would it be worth my time to learn how to overclock? would I see better performance?

you have nothing to worry about with that processor...i have mine running at 4.5 or 4.6 GHz right now. my motherboard Asus Hero VIII had the built in software for the Overclock...cant say I've seen a huge difference but any gain we ca get for free, may as well take it. she will hold you down for a long time my man no need to think she really needs the extra juice

Can't believe I just bought this.

Can I play this at 1080p/high settings over 144fps?

I5 - 7500 (unlocked to 3.8 ghz)
Gtx 1070 Asus
8 Gb at 2666 mhz

I was hoping the inconsistency of my framerates would have been fixed in a patch or with the latest drivers but nope, still getting anywhere from 120 fps to as low as 49fps @ 1080p which is quite disappointing.

980ti/oc i72600k,16gb ram.

Bought this a couple of days ago after playing both console versions a lot.
Im running it mostly very high and some of the blur/dof stuff turned down.
2560×1080 Freesync at 75hz
Fps goes up to 200 and down to 42 if not locked.

Still rocking FX8350 @ 4.2 with cpu usage at around 60%
R9-290X with a very high fan profile...

Currently building Ryzen 1600x with a GTX1060 6GB and hoping for a more stable fps without locking it.

Currently waiting on my new GTX 1080 Zotac to arrive so I can get my build together. That gpu came with a free copy of D2. I can't wait to play it again on the pc. CPU is the i7 7700k 4.2

I am using a Ryzen 5 1600 OC @ 3,95GHz with a 1080Ti on 1440p and I get constant 100fps+. I am not reaching constant 165fps though even if I turn down all settings. It seems that Ryzen is just not fast enough. A friend using a i7-8700k OC @ 5GHz is reaching constant 165fps with the same setup.

Overall I am quite happy with the performance though. 100fps+ feels great @ 1440p.
