Rick and Morty S3 |OT| Keeping Summer Safe - Sundays on Adult Swim

A comment Rick made that I found interesting was how he was berating Jerry for getting Beth pregnant because she "had options".

That would also conflict with the sentiment Rick noted in Season one that every Rick needs a Morty, and without Jerry knocking up Beth, there wouldn't be any Mortys.

He can still resent him for it regardless of whether it has consistently proven to be necessary.

Rick needs (needed?) a Morty to shield him from the galactic government.

If Beth had gone a different path, Rick may have done so as well.

I was confused by this as well, unless Rick was just lying to Morty about that to sentimentally manipulate him.

Either way, this was definitely the weakest episode so far and I liked the rest of the season.

It just felt so lazy. There were lots of quality zingers in there but they could have done so many interesting things with the immortality field and they just didn't.

For example, that ride was just your run-of-the-mill roller coaster. I thought for sure it was gonna be some crazy ride that ends up killing you dozens of times as you go around it because that's something Rick would actually be as excited about as he claimed to be.

The whole first half of the episode was so out of character for Rick that I felt like he was definitely just placating Jerry, but he wasn't.

I also feel like for all the development that could have happened with their relationship, they're right back where they were. Rick doesn't respect Jerry and Jerry still fears Rick and has done nothing to improve his relationship with his family.

It's just a total mulligan episode all around despite some funny insults, and an amazing concept was almost totally wasted.

Perhaps.

Not just the government. From any of his enemies who have their heads up their asses.

In season 1, it was objectively proven that Mortys generate Morty brainwaves that shield Rick from detection.

Rick has a coupon for one free Morty replacement and is seen in the credits picking up a new factory fresh Morty (probably not a real scene, but possibly a wink).

The replacement Morty is given from the Council of Ricks, though, right? The Council of Ricks is no more as of episode 1 of this season.

Darkest year of their adventures. Morty on the decline. Evil Morty already set-up. Rick has a coupon for one free Morty replacement and is seen in the credits picking up a new factory fresh Morty (probably not a real scene, but possibly a wink).

.... Too dark for even R&M?
It's pretty clear which of the intro scenes are jokes and which are from actual episodes. Like, in Season 1, the family surrounding someone giving birth, revealed to be Jerry is obviously a joke, while badass Jerry shooting monsters with a shotgun is from an episode. For this season, the "face on ass, ass on face" Morty watching porn scene is obviously a joke, while Rick talking to Morty about to be smashed by a piano key is from an episode.

The replacement Morty intro is probably just a joke because of the plumbuses in the foreground and just the absurdity of Rick not even caring and dropping him.

what options though? we see a timeline where she never had summer and shes a crazy birdperson surgeon. rick is mad but doesnt know who to direct his anger out on.

, the entire sequence where Summer enlarges herself (along with Beth making it worse) was something I didn't see coming.

Beth can be a downright horrible person, and I'd argue that she can be even worse than her father at times.

That was a great episode and what I would say is classic Rick & Morty.

Man Morty is showing himself to be smarter and vindictive.

Also you guys mentioning the "Every Rick needs a Morty". Not every Rick ends up with a Morty in their universe. Look at Doofus Rick.

That proves the point though. Ricks need Mortys so bad, that the council of Ricks gave Doofus Rick a Morty.

There's a store of Mortys in the intro. Rick tells Jerry he needs Morty to be emotionally stable to do his thing.

There might be a surplus from Ricks dying. Some Rick's might not need Morty's either, look at the guys working street selling jobs in the Citadel.

Man, that scene where the kid alien shoots his sister. I did not expect it to go there.

Has anyone read the Rick and Morty comics? In the comics the Jerry in Doofus Rick's universe is super smart and is basically a Rick super predator. I would love to see them do that on the show, such a great concept for that universe.

So after all the critical shit I said about last week's episode I gotta say this one in return was fantastic. Rick and Jerry's chemistry or the lack thereof did make this a very entertaining adventure and the mechanics introduced in the resort they were at led to some really interesting scenes like the one with the hand dryer, the kids playing and the whole fight scene.

The B-Plot was great too, characters actually showed more than one dimension in this episode and seeing the family bounce off eachother like in the older episodes was nice. The campfire scene in particular managed perfectly to be this great combination of bizarre, heartwarming and disgusting that Rick & Morty pulls off so well.

Overall this was some good shit, really looking forward to next week's episode.

This was a fantastic episode, totally hit all the comedic beats I wanted while also expanding on the overarching divorce plot without getting too much focus which is a balance the prior episodes lacked. This was up there with the best in the series IMO.

Last night was the first time I noticed in the opening that the words "same low price, same low self esteem" where above the Morty's in that Wal-Mart lol

So I do agree the Harmon formula is starting to show at the seams. I prefer the totally unpredictable. It's still funny and endlessly creative but I'm getting the criticism.

We've never actually had any time travel stuff in R&M have we? Just time freezing right?

I think I read somewhere they don't want to mess with time travel... yet.

GAF has been pretty split on the episodes so far but it seems more people like this one than dislike.

Great episode. It went pretty dark at times but still good. Morty is turning out to ruthless. Him and Summer are the stars of the show right now.
