I am.

I highly enjoy Obsidian's games but they've always been messed up in some way. So I'm just hoping this one isn't.

Or maybe your post is saying I shouldn't bother hoping?
This is an Obsidian game that is the sequel to a Bethesda game on the Gamebryo engine.

1+1+1 = oh god where are the modders

Honestly, it can be as buggy as it wants to be. Just let everything else make me keep playing. I'm consigning my life over to this game for at least 2 full weeks.

An OP that spends a ton of time talking about Obsidian's history and why this is the "real" Fallout 3, then claims its not worth discussing the features of the game itself in depth.

i'm more interested in the history of the developer than reading dull in depth descriptions of every new feature. just a rundown and an explanation of the hardcore mode is fine by me.

And I would rather discuss the game itself than have the thread be dominated by an Obsidian vs Bethesda troll war. Right now it seems like the main purpose of the OP was to make an editorial comment about what the Fallout series should be, with appreciation of the game taking a back seat. And the thread title certainly isn't helping.

I like the OP. I'm tired of all these big OP's that are just game info. I already know most of that in the first place. I'm all for interesting / fun OP's. A picture of a barren wasteland with a casino showing in the background would be fine by me.

Wanna see a GB Quicklook for this one. I'm on the fence again. Hope they polished animations. GAWD they were a turn-off in FO3

You have a very good point. Perhaps I've been too harsh.

I'm rethinking some of the wording, and I'll try some rewriting as soon as possible.

You're right, there is no hope for vanilla.

PC version ftw.

Yeah let's not shit too much on Bethesda when they're the ones who gave Obsidian this chance and made this game happen in the first place :lol

This is now my most anticipated game of the year since Gran Turismo 5 is no longer coming out. I'll probably lose all of next weekend to it.

that is certainly true. i just like it when op's focus place the game in context and do a bit of editorializing instead of re-iterating the marketing/pr campaigns, and wanted to appreciate an attempt to do that. i have nothing to say about the wrpg wars; this will probably be my first obsidian game.

On 360 at least, nope. They've added some visual sanity type effects to the player's view like you get in King Kong, L4D, Amnesia.. the palette has changed, to some extent.

That's too bad.

I will definitely be playing on Hardcore mode. Sounds awesome!! :D
I really didn't have any motivation to play this game (got platnum on F3, fill like I've had my fill) but DAMN that hardcore mode sounds great. Is it selectable when you first boot up the game?

I was kind of the same way... planned on letting New Vegas drop in price but that mode alone makes me want it :lol

I think it is available at start, from what I've heard.

yeah, near the beginning. It can be deselected at any point too.

I remember starting Fallout 3 only to catch the swine flu the next day and give up on life for two weeks. I never went back to it. :/

Fallout 3 is the real Fallout 3.

Hopefully Bethesda kept the leash tight. I just want more Bethesda style Fallout.

I've decided to dedicate my first hardcore playthrough to the endeavor of attempting to discover whether or not the Bozar is in fact in this game. My primary goal will not be to acquire allies within Nevada's factions or attempt to gain control over my own slice of the strip... only to endlessly pursue that beautiful zenith of modern firearm design. I will hunt it in the same way explorers set out to every corner of the Earth to look for the ark of the covenant, and should I find one... I will use it liberally. Righteously.

Ditch the Obsidian history lesson. Focus on Fallout: New Vegas as the first impression. At most put it as a subscript at the end.

Ah, awesome. I think I might just get this after all!

Fallout 3 was a poorly-written, poorly-balanced and all around poorly thought-out role-playing game, so I was kinda worried New Vegas would be more of the same. Seeing all the stuff we've seen, and hearing the devs talk about it made me incredibly pumped up for some reason. So now I just can't wait.

Have the CE on order. So excited to see the original creators working in this universe again.

Does anyone know if New Vegas takes place at the same time as 3? Or is it a few years later/before?

It's around 4 years after the events of Fallout 3 (2281).

Thanks! I wonder if we'll see the Brotherhood or the Enclave. Even with all the new factions, I kind of hope so.

Tuesday can't get here quickly enough.

From what I understand (which could very well be Obsidian-fueled bullshit), the Enclave has almost no presence in Nevada at this point.

I'm more concerned with finding Caesar (aka Metzger) and putting a shotgun barrel in his piece of shit mouth again.

Someone from GameFAQs has the strategy guide (He has pics for proof). According to the table of contents, there's 27 main quests and 73 side quests.

Four years later. Not sure if the OP states that.

God, I have to wait to play this, but as soon as I get it I am so gonna play Hardcore mode.

I may never play another mode after that, mainly because I played Fallout 3 as a stealth character and wanted that to be tougher. Now, I get my wish.

Even with all the other great games we've had this year, I've been anticipating this one the most.

I feel a sick day coming!
