I actually used to watch the G1 show as a kid (I realize now most of the episodes were shit, but I still like a bunch of them for various reasons) My sisters and I have 100+ G1 ponies in our basement at home. So many memories... plus it's fun because I recognize almost all of the G1 references in the show.
I love what Lauren Faust has done with the MLP name. She's restored dignity, in a way. In any case, I'm a huge fan of the new show. Makes me feel like a kid again to be watching ponies I've been depressed lately too, so watching something as cheery as FiM is a welcomed distraction.

and if it's clever and chic, a little tongue in cheek or a nice tweak is welcome. But human Apple Jack, bursting forth from her field is much too much with far too little imagination involved. If it's more than mild, best leave it where you found it and flag it with a link(if you must).

Something that really works in our favor when gauging our community when compared to others is that we have some posters that post a LOT in this thread. G-Fex and Myke both have over 500 posts in this thread, taking about 5% of the thread for each of them.

However, the centerpiece of the OP, and the way I plan to set it apart from what has been done before, would be a large comic starring our very own mascot, wandering through Equestria in "ghost" form (not seen or heard by any other character, since she, as a projection of our particular community, is not really part of that universe), and introducing to the reader the many locations of Equestria and its inhabitants... in song form. This comic would link to a video featuring the song itself, written in the spirit of the show, and with lyrics contributed by Pony-GAF members. A song I have already started composing (hence the musical notes I posted yesterday), and for which I have already found a very talented singer willing to do the vocals. The video would feature a semi-animated version of the comic itself, of course.
Talents needed:
- Designers for banners, headers and wallpapers
- Writers
- Link/content gatherers
- Avatar creators (I'm looking at you, Foxix and Nishastra)
- Comic artists (I can do this too, but I could use help)
- MIDI arrangers or musicians
- Animators (nothing too complex)
- Video editors
We have about six months to do this thing, if you think it's a good idea.
... Is this overkill?

Seriously though in my experience attempting something like this(for me it was usually game making, fortunately your plans probably won't require quite as much work) with random people on an online forum is a bitch and a half, but fortunately you've already got a topic full of people who have been getting to know each other better for about 2~3 months(team building!), they all have some kind of emotional investment in this show, and probably even PonyGAF itself(less likely to lose interest), so really you're already ahead of the curve. I can't say much about the talent you have available here(I know there are at least a few people who can do pretty good music and videos), but you've got the entire brony culture out there with awesome people who could probably do a few jobs for you if you can't get everything you need from here.

Ponies do not violate the ToS GAF has, or the GAF rules the mods have set up. Inappropriate content, of any kind, does and gives them just cause to eliminate this thread. While some topics manage to resurrect themselves (pics that make you laugh, seductive women), they do that because the mods give some leeway and there's no sense of community in those threads. It's a drive-by phenomenon.
PonyGAF is different, because it's a real community with real discussions. However, inappropriate content for it exists (just like most other topics) and this content (in particular) can attract the ire of others.
Because of the irresponsible actions of one person, a lot of people can suffer.
Now, speaking directly to your tendencies, you can easily find other boards which can accomodate your preferences and let loose your inhibitions there. And that's cool, because you are free to like what you like and share that with others. It's just not cool here, because you'll be inconveniencing a lot of people with whom you share a community with.
tl;dr : Don't be selfish, we can't all do what we want all the time, realize that we give up some things so that everyone doesn't suffer.
