The main difference is that every game in Heiankyo Alien 3671 is randomized, so you can't really memorize anything. The maze changes, and the locations of hidden treasures (essential to scoring) also change. However, while there is RNG involved, you're not solely depending on luck for a high-score.

At first I was having trouble earning more than 250,000 a game. Now I'm starting to consistently score 2+ million. It's all about learning the myriad of scoring mechanics, while being able to develop routes on the fly.

A few things to point out.
-Every level-up increases the value of power-ups and hidden treasures. Power-ups should be picked up regularly, since only two can be on-screen at once. Hidden treasures should be picked up last (especially the diamond, because it doubles the current score).
-Every "building" (all those squares and rectangles) can have a wall built around it. When the wall is completed, the player is awarded some points. Every wall that's still standing upon level-up results in an additional bonus.
-Green aliens flash and make a sound when they walk over a hidden treasure. However, they also destroy walls.
-Optimization is everything. That means no dying and no wasting time.

SimilarWeb is a trusted and loved company by Google, you could check their extension in the Chrome store, see how it works and so on.

I'm only early on in the game, but I can see how it could be polarizing.

The atmosphere is quite oppressive and the game gives you no clear indication on what to do or where to go. The latter can be off-putting as the majority of modern games point you in the correct direction constantly.

I also stopped after the 5 hour mark. At first I though the map mechanic was clever, but then it just started to annoy me. I'd rather have that work like in other Metroidvanias. My progrss also felt slow and I lost interest.

I just saw that the PC version of Monster Hunter World is coming out after the console versions. That hurts...

I'm pretty sure they will make another game after Atomato success, it would be stupid not to, but I'm not sure it will work as well for them if they ditch platinum.

I always felt MGS4 followed a very similar design philosophy and overall structure to that of ZoE2, that felt definitely a bit out of place within the MGS series. But I can also see some people disliking it too in the context of the ZoE series itself. It's a very short game and there's definitely a lot of gimmicky sections. I don't remember there being a lot of depth to the basic gameplay loop (the opposite of which is true when it comes to MGS and that being the issue with MGS4), so I actually enjoyed them for the variety they introduced.
