McDonalds Brings Back Szechuan Dipping Sauce on October 7th, One Day Only

A man smashes a sauce packet on the ground and people around him respond by dipping their nuggets into the sauce splattered on the pavement

Mother! was actually about tv and movie fandoms

I like the show because I think absurdist humor is pretty funny, so the idea of him destroying lives for dipping sauce is funny to me, but this...this is commitment to the gag that goes beyond anything considered sane.

I'll admit, i may have overreacted a bit when I went to McDoanlds and didn't get the sauce. But let me explain something:
My concept of me overreacting was just being a little pissy for the next 2-3 hours, I had been up for 25 hours (I was so caffeinated I didnt notice until my bed-crash 2 hours later), I drove 30 minutes from home just for the chance to try it, the line was insane, and i was borrowing my parents car since mine was in the shop, and i dislike their car.
The next closest one was an hour drive and i wasn't going to drive that far for a small chance of sauce.
This insanity over the sauce? its just.... I dunno... kinda sick

Yup. It honestly blew me away that what people took away from that S3E1 gag was "hurrhurr nugget sauce, so random". You can't even blame the show for it either because it makes the point of calling people like that idiots.
Not trying to say I understand these people, but the whole episode brought up Szechuan sauce from the beginning to the end. It wasn't really a gag if the whole episode pretty had a Szechuan sauce C plot, from him talking about it in the beginning, to going to McDonald's to get the sauce, to the alien guy eating the sauce and commenting on how good it was while Rick's wife died, to his rant at the end about the sauce being his arc and him not giving up until he gets the sauce again.

The 3DS/Nintendo call out was a gag, Szechuan sauce was like a special guest in the season opener.

Fans still are acting like entitled asses about the sauce though. Glad McDonald's drummed up hype and helped a few people throw away a few hundred dollars for some nugget sauce that we'll all be able to get in a few months. Probably still won't like it, thought it was crap the first time it was out, but I might remember and pick some up this winter.

But it wasn't about the Szechuan sauce. The sauce was a MacGuffin.

All people care to remember is when Rick went on his rant about the sauce. That’s all people cared about because it’s Rick going nuts. Whenever the show is quoted to me, it’s Rick going nuts.

Yes, but the fact is you could sub in literally any other obscure object in place of the sauce and the episode would have been no different at all. Fans latching onto that one thing is proof that most missed the point.

That's just a running gag. Jokes don't have to be one time things, and 3 mentions doesn't make it a subplot

It's brought up the most because outside of that joke, the episode was pretty meh. Hell it was months before people realized that it actually WAS the season premiere and not just a joke

That said, yeah this went overboard. I would've liked to have tasted the sauce but I'm not waiting in line for it unless it's a 2 minute drive thru line

Justin Roiland: This is embarassing. Please don't harass Macdonalds employees guys, this isn't their fault.

Dan Harmon: (Publically abuses and belittles Macdonalds employee).

What if Rick and Morty fans form a religion, and it essentially replaces Scientology. Can't decide whether that would be an upgrade or a wash

They're not organized or willing to work with each other enough to get anywhere near the level of scientology.

They can't even make their own Szechuan sauce / Teriyaki sauce.

An Undertale fan tried to kill a fanartist by giving them food with needles in them

IIRC there's an image that also shows comments saying they deserved it for drawing pornographic art of the characters (since the main character is assumed to be a kid).

Some SU fans drove a fanartist to attempt suicide because she drew some characters too thin or not dark enough or whatever. They also harassed one of the people working on the show for drawing the "wrong ship" in their personal art posted to twitter (it was just artwork of two characters hanging out and smiling at each other, no kisses or hand holding or anything that would actually imply a romantic relationship to 99% of people).
I'm sure MLP fans have a long sordid list of shit. I vaguely remember lots of Homestuck drama from people who thought they were qualified to brigade against others who had differing ships, head-cannons, and kinks. I still have no idea what drives people to act like this.

A little off topic but I disagree about the whole episode being meh and never heard of anyone not believing it was real after April 1st. Like at all.

So I don't believe that at all is the reasoning the sauce got hyped.

It fucking interrupted Samurai Jack's final season for a fucking April Fool's joke so I will forever be salty about that.
