I don't think Bernie will ever be able to win a drawn out 1vs1 primary. His best chance is for at least two of the Gillibrand, Kamala, Booker trio to exchange victories and survive for an extended period of time, while mitigating his losses in the South. He's never going to do good in the South or among black voters in a primary, but I do think he'll improve on his disastrous results simply because he's a known and well-liked quantity now. Opinion polls don't seem to show black voters actually disliking him or being more unfavorable toward him than the public at large.

But that was case in 2016. Black people didn't shun Bernie because he was unlikeable.

Black voters (especially older black voters) shunned Bernie because the demo is incredibly pragmatic and didn't buy his pie-in-the-sky bullshit, his barely concealed ignorance of issues specific to our communities and his scorn for the First Black President.

Bernie is a nice guy, but black voters know better than almost anyone that "nice" won't buy you a pot to piss in.

Mueller requested phone records about Air Force One statement

The special counsel has also recently made requests for documents concerning a statement made by Sean Spicer in the days preceding James Comey's firing as FBI director.

She's running

also are the moderators gonna stop people from just lying at each other and the public for the entire time or?

Moderators are going to be Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. They should probably start by asking if Graham and Cassidy have read their own bill, and how it meshes with their own prior statements.

This will be a good coming out moment for Klobuchar. And it'll be especially interesting to see how she balances out with Bernie.

It is pretty pathetic though that a CNN town hall is the most we'll get for a public debate or hearing on this bill.

If senators run and fail to make it past the Democratic presidential primary, are they forced to vacate their seats?

Townhall debate with Graham/Cassidy vs. Sanders/Klobuchar on Monday
Interesting.

If Klobuchar performs well you could see some real momentum for her in the pre-presidential primary gossip. She's clearly interested, but I feel she's dismissed for a number of reasons (not an immediately exciting candidate, tends to focus more on local issues over making broad, national statements, from a smaller state than many of the other prospective candidates who enjoy much wider exposure).

Telling you guys, she's a dark horse. She could win Iowa. Put it in the books.

Speaking of dark horses and things that are interesting, Joe Biden will campaign for Doug Jones in Alabama. Wonder if Democrats really are seeing an opportunity here, although I seem to recall Joe making appearances for long shot races before. I'm sure he just enjoys it.

I mean, why not ask Obama to actually do it? The original plan was his.

Poll of Washington's 45th Senate district special election has the Democrat up 10 points, 51-41.

https://washingtonstatewire.com/dhingra-holds-lead-englund-new-poll/

For those not in the know, Washington's Senate has a nominal Democratic majority by one seat, but a turncoat Dem senator Tim Sheldon caucuses with the Republicans, thus giving them majority control. If we win this special election, Democrats get the trifecta in Washington.

We could go from 6 trifectas to 8 just by winning this seat, and Phil Murphy winning the NJ governor's race. Hopefully we hold onto Virginia governor and make some headway in the House there.

If the GOP can pick up a (temporary) senate seat in Mass in 2010 on Dem backlash, I don't really think any race is entirely out of the picture.

I've never really considered 2018 completely unwinnable for the senate. I think there's a hidden seat or two that we can grab that nobody is paying attention to.

Midterms can get pretty wacky, especially if there's a big backlash against the president.

you know Graham and Cassidy are going to spend a lot of their time attacking Bernie's single payer bill instead of defending their own bill on the merits.

They wouldn't have done this if that wasn't the case. This is a trap and Bernie is falling for it, as he usually does since he's not that good at politics.

I think the trap only really works if Bernie himself goes into it head-first. If Bernie can keep the subject on the bill trying to be proposed rather than single-payer, then it could go well.

Mainly, I expect this is also trying to get McCain on the bill.

Yeah right ... Bernie's got tunnel vision. All he and his bernicrats see is single payer. That's absolutely going to be the baseline of what he compares the GC bill too. If he mentions public options, or cost control or anything like that, I"ll be shocked. He's a one trick pony.

I doubt this debate would meet McCains standards, if he's sticking to his guns that is, but if it is the deal breaker I'm going to be livid.

The entire debate is going to turn into Graham/Cassidy comparing their bill favorably against single payer. Meanwhile you'll have everyone, except Klob, attacking Obamacare in some way.

I have a really bad feeling about this.

Bernie isn't just losing the black vote hard because of how capable / not capable he is about talking about civil rights. He's also losing the black (and hispanic) vote because... he's far too progressive for many black and hispanic voters. Both of these group are far more conservative than the average white person in the Democrat party.

Bernie isn't going to do significantly better among these groups by changing his rhetoric around Civil Rights. He'd need to change some fundamental parts of his platform. A more moderate Democrat is probably going to beat Bernie in 2020 once again among these groups.

Same. Especially since they got Berine. This is not gonna end well they Graham knew exactly who they should attack.

If Democrats didn't think they were able to defend a single payer healthcare plan against Lindsey Graham maybe literally all the 2020 frontrunners shouldn't have cosponsored it.

Graham and Cassidy can't even defend their bill against Jimmy Kimmel's criticisms. (Not to say Kimmel didn't do his research because he obviously did.)

I expect Sanders will defend the progress under the ACA and talk up expanding even further to cover every American under a Single Payer system.

Nah Sanders is going to rip off his disguise mid-debate after knocking Amy unconscious with a steel chair so him, Graham and Cassidy can triple team Obamacare into oblivion.

I would agree that cosponsoring a litmus test bill before it was even made public was stupid.

.

He's a witty comedian ... politicians have no idea how to go up against these types. They always get wrecked.

Ya'll need to fucking chill with the Bernie hate on this debate.

Its not a big deal at all and he'll be fine.

I want to see it play out. Sanders has been quite clear about his support of the ACA, he's not going to spend most of his time pimping his own plan, etc. And these debates....don't move the needle. CNN has done a lot of them this year. Does anyone care, outside of people like us who pay attention to this shit?

Not a Sanders fan but I'll trust him here.

the debate is only a net positive for lindsey.

get beat up by mean democrats

get beat up by mean socialists

or they beat them.

they will play the victim or victor card in the debate, it shouldnt be had, specifically because they are voting on that bill a few days later.

imho

------

I'd be for the debate if there was no bill up for vote so soon, if it were a debate about healthcare with no bill looming I'd be for it.

Nah ... considering the timing, this debate is fucking stupid.

”If I'm successful it's the end of Bernie-care," -- @LindseyGrahamSC on @Josh_Kimbrell Radio just now.

They're already admitting they're going to attack his plan and put him on the defensive when he should be on the offensive against their plan before next week.

For someone who's constantly upset about this issue, I have no idea why you're so cavalier about this.
