GOG | News and Updates 2017 - Back to the basics

Ugh. So they removed the option to exit by clicking the Close buttons. Why. It was a much requested feature. I loathe having to go into the hidden tray icon, right-click and select Exit each and every time I'd like to exit the program.

Edit: was informed by another user that the proper exit can now be found in the 'GOG' icon menu in the sidebar. I'd still prefer the option over this but at least it's better than the steps above.

Today I have tried playing Jagged Alliance, the first one.

GAF, I think I'm too old for this.

I quit when a merc died, and his items where all over the ground, and I began to think about just how many turns it would take just to collect all that with the others. Also, having to select who would stay with each item, and having to look at the numbers of each merc.

In fact, thinking about it, it may just be that work is sucking all my lifeforce out of me and I can't play anything too complex anymore. I'm beginning to understand what modern gaming is all about, though it often goes too far to keep things simple. Sigh.

Trusty Alt+F4 doesn't work?

Nope, it just triggers the regular hide to tray. They obviously thought users would intuitively understand and prefer to use the GOG menu to always exit. Someone on the GOG team even PM'd me via Galaxy but said they couldn't respond to anything more about future changes.

Wow, it's ridiculous that Alt+F4 doesn't quit. That's what that command is for. I've never seen a program that uses it to hide. It feels like it's breaking some kind of Windows rule.

If it's a Windows rule, then I'm pretty sure Microsoft broke it for years with classic Skype too. Granted, there weren't many user interactive background programs in the early days of Windows, so it's somewhat arbitrary what should happen with these.

As much as I found quitting Skype a nuisance, trust me, [Alt+F4] managing to completely quitting Steam on Ubuntu surprised me.

Alright, GOG's deployment time for patches is killing me.

On Steam, Expeditions: Viking had patch 1.0.3 released on May 10th.
On GOG, Patch 1.0.3 is still unreleased as of this post--it has been in limbo for six days with absolutely no movement. For comparison, the previous patch (1.0.2) released four days late.

They've gotta do so much better than this 'cause these waits are getting ridiculous. To top it all off, there's zero communication from the devs or anyone on the forums--it's throwing the GOG community to the wolves and keeping them in the dark all at once.

As much as I love GOG, this is why I don't buy anything but classics there.

If you aren't already, make noise about this.

GoG patches usually come a few days later in my experience, but I don't think I've ever waited more than a week.

Some games are patched within a day or two while others can take a while. Really wish they would speed this up but it relies on the devs and GOG.

...welp. Turns out the problem is that GOG Galaxy and the GOG website have different game versions available. Expeditions: Viking is still stuck on 1.0.2. on the GOG website, but GOG Galaxy got the 1.0.3 version at some undisclosed period prior. There are no patch notes for 1.0.3 through GOG, though the launcher properly detected that it was available. And to think, I only tried Galaxy because some folks on the Expeditions subforum were mentioning that it was available (amidst others saying it wasn't). Turns out, this is why.

Their website and GOG Galaxy not being synced up is somehow worse than the patch not being available at all. It's just amateur hour all around--there's no indication on the website library that GOG Galaxy and the site itself have different content, aside from the fact that they do.

Also, I made a support post right after my previous post; no reply yet. I'm not expecting much.

After checking the update notifications on Galaxy it appears that I've been on an older version of various games despite installing the games months after the 'new' updates existed. How does that work? Has Galaxy been downloading an older version of certain games when I initially install?

And the Galaxy desktop notification position for completed downloads isn't being displayed correctly. I changed it to 'bottom-left' but it continues to display on the bottom-right. Galaxy pls.

Releases for several Bethesda-developed/published titles, fuck yeah!

Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition: https://www.gog.com/game/fallout_3_game_of_the_year_edition
Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition: https://www.gog.com/game/fallout_new_vegas_ultimate_edition
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition Deluxe: https://www.gog.com/game/the_elder_scrolls_iv_oblivion_game_of_the_year_edition_deluxe

Great timing as I literally just ordered a new computer from NICXUS based upon the "i need a new pc" thread here on GAF in order to play a heavily modded Fallout 3 and New Vegas once I got my computer.

Hopefully XSEED will bring Zwei II (no seriously that IS it's name) to gog

Now I shall return to dreaming of a release of the Brandish series on PC, with option for the remixes by Toshinori Hiramatsu

XSEED's brought all their Falcom games to GOG, and they list the game as coming to "Windows PC" rather than Steam, which they've said means "not just Steam."

So, it's coming to GOG. And I'll buy it.

If a game is gone from gog due to license expired or something, is it possible they get it back to the store one day?

Possible? Yes. They got older Fallouts back for instance, and that was at the point no one expected Bethesda to care. However if you have a specific title in mind, well, things can get more precise, both ways.

I wish they could get second sight back. They said it MIGHT come back at some point but it never happened.

Yea I guess it depends on license issues and getting it sorted out. I remember they said Duke Nukem 3D is coming back but I think there is an issue currently as they took it off steam and put some worse version up instead according to some users.

Not necessarily, they used to skip them when they got a major launch, and Dragon's Dogma definitely a major launch for them, with a launch discount, even.
