Evolution 2017 The Fighting Game Tournament of the Year (Read OP, No Game Whining)

Why are there more consistent tournament winners in V then? The discussion you're following up to was about how Infiltration crushed the SFV circuit for months, then Nuckledu did, then Punk did. And that never really happened in SFIV other than Infiltration's year of dominance.
Bc those people are the only ones who mitigated the 5050 game or figured out how to make it work for them. All those individuals figured out specific types of keep away while excelling at the burst damage and oki of sfv

Or at least, that's an argument. I don't know if I believe it

that top 8 was amazing. Its amazing how everyone shits on the game, and yet here we are, always amazing to watch lol

I'm not a fan of either SFIV or SFV, but EVO top 8 for these games is always hype due to the competitors and if you play fighting games, its easy to tell whats going on in these matches even if you don't play them.

The new Arika fighter looks amazing, looks like a fighting game I would play a lot once released. Plus I always liked Arika as a company. Their Cave ports on the PS2 were godlike.

I'm still salty they couldn't figure out Ketsui on PS2. 'Luda and DOJ were amazing.

Well, yeah, the mantra of SFV being all 50/50 and rush is overblown as shown in this Top8. I think the problem is too many people are used to their flowcharts and lab hard, but SFV is about fighting your rival, not fighting the game.

If you take a look at those that succed are people that heavily condition their rivals: Infiltration, Du, Punk, Tokido, Fuudo... they all force their play into your head, even players like Kaz or Itabashi are well known for making you play different and anticipate their reads (but they are too casino oriented to be more consistent in this game).

SFV has some gameplay downfalls (light AAs still being a thing or CC heavy neutral), but that 50/50 all offensive mantra is some serious bullshit.

If it's possible to 'figure it out', then, that's called being good at the game! Same as any other fighting game.

And it's not like it's just those three that are consistent. Guys like Fuudo, Haitani, Xiao Hai, Phenom, make top 8 in virtually every event they play.

Honestly, Punk needs the moral support right now. So many people would kill to have been in the position he was in to be the 2nd best player in the world, and while it does suck that he not lost, but got bodied because he got Downloaded, he still has a future ahead of him.

He has literally nothing to be ashamed of and I think that being the American who got to Grand Finals in Street Fighter is a special prize in on its own.

It comes down to preference I think. Sfv incurs risk in almost every action there is, so that's probably what makes it less popular in that way.

Essentially your life. Count the number of hours a day you're not sleeping or eating, the vast majority of it will be spent perfecting that skill.

Yeah basically. I wonder how many pros even play other genres. I can only imagine if I had dedicated the 100+ hours I put into Persona 5 into a fighting game.

Punk aged like 20+ years with his loss to Tokido. He looks like a different person.

Thank you.

She was absolutely amazing and was one attack away from taking out Anakin and making it to the Top 8. There is a reason people say she went into the hyperbolic time chamber. She still seems to lose her cool towards the end of her matches, but that is something she will no doubt conquer as she gains experience. I'm really excited for her performances in future tournaments.

I'm sure they make more money from it, but EVO needs to get away from these cheap headsets. I'm sure they're OK when you're at home, but in your prestige tournament with people yelling and screaming... get something better.

Lol i have 350+ hours in SFV and i can't even get out of the Platinum league, those pros got the talent + thousands of hours spent into the game.

Have you seen this one for Geese's reveal yet? This is my favorite one from the whole weekend because Hellpockets' IMMEDIATE reaction.

The hardcore fans realized what was going on from the first laugh.

It was funny hearing people get the picture at different moments with all hell breaking loose when Geese appeared in full and turned around.

My fave is probably this one with Japanese fans:

You could really hear the crowd erupt.

I'm ass.

Yeah I was gonna say, 100 hours isn't gonna even make a dent.

Geez that's extremely discouraging lol. Well I peaked at like Silver in SFV when I played it so that goes to show my skill level lol. You guys are right about the talent though.

Happy for Tokido. I had to tap out half way through top 8 but I'll watch a replay of the rest.

Would be nice if they drop a game from Sunday (Smash?) next year and have things wrap up at a more tv-friendly time for us east coasters.
