Oh No Ross and Carrie is worth your time. Huge backlog of episodes and the subject material is some kind of fascinating deep dive into humanity itself. Who knew fucking around playfully with cults, pseudoscience and religions could get so deep?
The Scientology saga is worth a listen for sure, it's incredible how far they got in the church. I find some of their stuff a bit hit or miss, the episodes where they do deep dives into crazy groups or specific figures are a lot more interesting than the episodes where they get specific treatments done and describe in painstaking detail their visit to whatever facility was offering the service. Their past couple episodes with the end of days religion thing have been super dull as well.

When their episodes "hit" they hit hard though.
My Dad Wrote A Porno is back! Anyone listening?

Revisionist History returns June 15th, looking forward to that as well
My heart skipped a beat when MDWaP showed up in my podcast feed again. My life feels complete again now that #pornoday is back. Hopefully the eventual break between season 3 and 4 is shorter.

So, after that ridiculously shitty season 2 finale, Tell Me Something I Don't Know is back, and the first panel of season 3 is Steve Levitt! I've been waiting for him to show up on this.

Have you listened Roman Mars' new show yet about what Trump can teach us about constitutional law?

I've only heard the preview, but it sounds really interesting.

The episode (well, there's only one right now) is short, too, so it should be easy to slot in.

Anyone else finding podcasts have fast become your favourite form of entertainment?

There's something about putting on earphones and sinking into a good podcast that feels personal and unique. Live episodes lose this effect though and are generally shit to listen to.
I realized this a few years ago. In particular, I love I can multi-task while listening to a podcast.

Is there a good podcast that goes through the history of ideas? I know the bbc one but I want something meatier with longer episodes. Extra points if it covers more than western ideas/history.

So I've been listening to More Perfect, basically a Radiolab spinoff miniseries about the SCOTUS. I think they intended to do a second season at some point, has anyone heard anything about if that's still on the cards?

I read months ago that Season 2 is 100% coming later this year, but I don't recall any specific timeline. Guesses seem to be around Autumn since they missed the Spring/May '17 mark they were going for.

Radiolab itself has an undependable schedule right now, so I wouldn't hold my breath that More Perfect is coming back soon.

In the interim, though, check out What Trump Can Teach Us About Constitutional Law by Roman Mars. It's kind of similar.

Slate's Amicus is another similar series

Yep. Most movies and TV shows don't do it for me so Podcasts are amazing.

Some of my favorite podcasts are currently on a seasonal break so I went down the rabbit hole of the back catalog for Last Podcast on the Left just as a random one to pick up - was looking for something a little weird but funny. Really got into it. Those guys aren't the brightest dudes but they still take the time to do research and structure their cast in a way that's educational but they manage to be comedic while doing so.

Had no idea GAF had a podcast thread. Perfect timing too, because I just dropped a couple podcasts and was looking for some fresh shows.

Are we allowed to mention our own podcasts in this thread? My friends and I (one's a GAFer) started up one a little over a month ago and are just curious.

Yeah, your post made me realize this thread is officially over two years old now. Any particular genres you like?

Sure, feel free. I always enjoy checking out podcasts from GAFfers

Oh, ok!

So Elliot (Carlisle, the other GAFer) and I used to work at RPGamer back in the day (like...ten years ago lol) and I finally met him back in 2010. He introduced me to his friend Steve, an Irish guy who was in the US working on a visa. We always chatted about games, and it was always kind of interesting since Steve missed out on like the entirety of the 8-16-32-bit eras, so we decided to get him to play some classic games. We all have massive backlogs and we're now just getting Steve into a bunch of games, so we decided to take our conversations to a podcast, called "Rather Be Playing."

Yeah, the gaming podcast market is pretty saturated, but I think we've got pretty good banter (which is a huge chunk of what you need) and we're all pretty good friends. Elliot and I are working through various games and over the first few episodes we've had Stevo play Super Metroid, Zelda: LTTP, and Chrono Trigger (while I've played Doom, Trails in the Sky, The Order:1886, and Elliot's talked about TLOU and Metroid Prime), so he's got fresh eyes without the nostalgia.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any feedback you guys have - I think by Episode 3 we really found a groove. The link below is to the website, but we're on all the major podcasting platforms (links are also on the site under "Listen").

I appreciate your careful word choice with my talking about TLoU and MP, rather than having finished them. But yeah, thanks for the plug Josh and thanks GAF and More_Badass for letting us plug. It's been quite the labor of love getting the show off the ground, with a lot of learning by trial and error, but we're pretty proud of where it is and looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Edit:
And yes, episode 3 is a good place to start. We've gotten helpful and positive feedback about the first 2 eps, so they're by no means hopeless disasters or anything, but we were definitely still trying define the format and getting used to the idea of being publicly broadcast and it shows in all its awkward glory.

I just launched my newest show. I'm really proud of it. https://www.voicesinusa.com

Voices in America are the stories of 21st-century pilgrims; who they are, how they got here, why they came, and what they think about their new country. As the nation debates immigration, Voices in America invites you to do one revolutionary thing: Listen.

This is our first episode description.

El Tren de la Muerta

You may already know about people like Javier. In 2003, the Los Angeles Times won the Pulitzer Prize for reporting on children like him, the ones from Central America who risked their lives riding “The Train of Death” to get to the United States. Clinging to fast-moving freight cars, dodging immigration officials, like Javier, they came alone, without parents, money, or the English language. Like all good stories, this one has a happy ending.

I'm producing and editing, and our Host/Exec Producer is Jonathan Shapiro (Goliath, Blacklist, ect)

We picked the 4th to launch since immigrants are the foundation of our society and what better way to celebrate. I'd love feedback, and hope someone of you check it out. I've been working on this for months.

I will have to fix that! I just got it up this morning on Google play, activated the iTunes page and anchor. Thanks for letting me know.

Edit: Thanks, I just submit it to pocketcasts and it was approved.

Been a while since I last posted. Here are some shows I added:

What Trump Can Teach Us About Con Law - This is Roman Mars' new show, and it's quite interesting. Episodes are really short and digestible.

You Are Not So Smart - I added it because the guy from The Oatmeal recommended it.

The Venture - It's a Gimlet show, so it's interesting. It's like a worse version of How I Built This. A lot worse. But it's still good enough.

Masters of Scale - Super interesting subject matter, host, and guests (like Mark Zuckerberg, Sheryl Sandberg, and Eric Schmidt), but for some reason the audio mixing and/or sound design is fucking awful. Like the levels aren't normalized; there's popping audio all over the place; and in one episode, it sounds like the guest's audio was sped up.

.future - Gimlet and Microsoft. It's kind of interesting so far, but the host is really bad. It's like a worse version of Note to Self.

Mogul - This is good. It's like the new Crimetown. I like it, even though I don't like rap or hip-hop music.

The Cracked Movie Club - I couldn't even get through a single episode of this trash. The hosts are just so, so bad. It's like they have the enthusiasm level of Gastropod with the dumb banter of Unpopular Opinion. As an aside, The Cracked Podcast itself has had a massive decline in quality since Jack left.

Undiscovered - I literally just added this.

Thanks for the Levar Burton Reads recommendation. The last episode was AWESOME. Defintely gonna check out Lesley Nneka Arimah's other work.

Anyone listening to The Pitch? I feel like Gimlet is trying to push it so hard, but I also feel like it's just a lesser version of Shark Tank. I do like that it gets more in-depth with individual pitches, but I think it has some major disadvantages in that you can't see the product being pitched, and the investors seem to have less personality than the Shark Tank ones.

I recently listed to the Bushman's Cave episode of Snap Judgment through a TAL episode and thought it was great. This in turn led me to Snap Judgment's website and it seems like an interesting podcast.

Anyone care to share their thoughts? Is it worth going through? Recommended episodes?

Anyone able to recommend some decent podcasts, that are around 20-30 minutes in length surrounding current affairs?

Ideally from a UK perspective.

Alternatively, any other decent podcasts which tell amazing factual stories in that same time length.

BBC's The Documentary is incredibly solid, but episodes vary between being around 25 and around 50 minutes in length.

To be honest, the subject matter and reporting is too heavy for me to listen to each and every episode, so I just pick one or two per week.

Recent episodes include the decriminalization of homosexuality in the UK vs. its former colonies, the final telephone call from a mother in Aleppo up a BBC reporter, and a series on Trump's first 100 days.
