American Horror Story: ? |OT| We know nothing about this season

How was this one any more random and weird than Hotel? Asylum? Murder House?

I think Asylum (which I really like) might still hold the record for sheer randomness. They really threw EVERYTHING at the wall to see what would stick in that season.

Off the top of my head, we had:
General mental asylum horror
Serial killer
Aliens
Nazi medical experiments
Demonic possession
Evil Santa
Body horror
The Angel of Death

And that's leaving aside all of the plot threads and character beats that weren't specifically tied into familiar horror tropes or genre elements.

Finally caught the finale. That was .... something. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole season. It was so short and yet it still felt like it dragged in places. They could have completely removed the cannibal hillbilly subplot and the show would have been significantly better for it. I would have liked for the entirety of the second half of the season to be the Big Brother angel they were going for at the half way point. There was potential for a lot of fun goofy shenanigans with that. :/

Asylum, which is my favorite season, also thew a lot of shit at the wall but I felt like all of it stuck. None of the subplots felt underdeveloped or like wasted opportunities to me. The alien subplot was never entirely explained but that was ok specifically because it was aliens, and mystery is the name of the game with that particular subgenre.

Both Coven and now Roanoke feel disappointing not only because of the wasted potential of the material but also because they waste a lot of precious screen time on uninteresting bullshit. In Coven I did not give a baker's fuck about the incest frankenstein subplot and even the supreme plot line felt pretty weak; I definitely did not think it should have been the main focus. The voodoo vs. witches stuff seemed so much better. Anyway, obligatory ranking.

Asylum > Murder House > Roanoke > Coven > literally anything else > Freak Show

I think I may finally watch Hotel since people seem to not hate it. Freak Show was literally so terrible that I was ready to drop this show forever. I saw it from beginning to end waiting for it to get good but it never did.

Anyway, seeing as how Ryan Murphy is intent on making these seasons all connected, I have to imagine shit is going to get really crazy next time a season is set in present day right? Like not only have we established that witches are real, but also monsters and ghosts and all that other shit given the ending of Roanoke with the SWAT team and camera crew having all the monsters coming after them. I think this would be a good time to finally bring back the antichrist from Murder House. He is must be a teenager at this point right?

It's why I stopped watching it. Saw the first three episodes, and it was everything including the fucking kitchen sink. Recorded a small interview with a friend about what we had just seen, and he just banged that show really bad. Didn't watch another AHS episode till Hotel.

Oh come on. Excuse me for the double post, but are they seriously going back to that house. That's too stupid even for a horror series. "They all died except one". Yeah, you probably deserve it for going back to ghost murder house, you damn idiots.

On other hand, I may be in love with Sarah Paulson doing english accent. Also some really legit spooky moments.

Eject,
Eject,
Eject.
Them returning had it up there in my ratings...
only to turn around with the worst batch of episodes in the entire franchise.

Yeah, this was pretty much torture porn: The show. (At least the second part)

I mean, the season has always been pretty brutal, but it always used that brutality to deliver some kind of story (Like the nurses). This felt more like watching some kind of b-tier slasher movie more than anything.

I'm surprised to see you say this, I fucking HATE that kind of shit (I've said it before but Hotel was the most grotesque TV I've ever seen and had a sequence that has likely scarred me for life) but I didn't have a problem with this season. There were times where I was on edge, worried things were gonna get into gross torture porn and extreme, gratuitous gore, but alarmingly they showed a ton of restraint. I don't remember which episode it was but the example I brought up earlier in the thread while it was airing was, they have a close-shot, someone's going in with a knife, and right when you think you're gonna see something fucking repulsive they cut to a far-away wide shot and only show the reactions, leaving more to your imagination.

For me, since I'm not super into imagining upsettingly disgusting torture, that was worlds better than what they did in Hotel or some of the other seasons.

The series has been renewed for 3 more seasons - 7, 8, and 9.

They've also confirmed that Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will return for season 7.

American Horror Story is one of the most polarizing shows on television - no one can agree on what the best (or worst) seasons are.

Basically this:
American Horror Story is one of the most polarizing shows on television - no one can agree on what the best (or worst) seasons are.

Just know that Season 3 is VERY different from any other season of AHS. It could easily be its own show IMO (and apparently they're planning to do a follow-up season to it in the future). Season 1 & 2, quality aside, focused on a ton of horror tropes and, successful or not, tried to be a horror show. Season 3 is very focused on just Witch stuff, and isn't very scary at all nor did it feel like it was trying to be.

It's basically The Catty Witch Bitch Show. I personally like it, but I absolutely understand why others don't, especially coming off of seasons 1 & 2 which were so horror focused.

For my own two cents on the quality comparison, I feel like Seasons 1 and 2 were the strongest and very horror/spooky themed, Season 3 took a sharp left turn out of the horror/spooky vibe, Season 4 tried to bring it back but chose a theme that was very difficult to convert into actual horror in today's social climate, Season 5 went another hard left into like disgusting sexy gore porn, and then Season 6 took two more major left turns within itself which IMO got it back on track to being horror focused.

Thanks.

S5 sounds right up my alley so I guess I'll keep watching, haha

I feel like Season 5 pushed what they can show on TV to the absolute max when it comes to violence, gore, and sex. I've never seen anything like it before or since. The only thing that comes close is the sex scene in Always Sunny Season 11 but AHS:Hotel still manages to top it due to mixing horror are gore in too.

I wish I could unwatch parts of it. ):

For me

AHS S1 was some of the most enjoyable TV ever. Didn't think that much of S2 but I stayed because, by the point, I was happy with the show.

But you're really hyping up S5 for me rn.

Hahaha well I genuinely hope you like it and I'm not overhyping it!! It definitely has good points, it probably has the most fleshed out characters of any of the AHS seasons, which seems to be about the only thing that everyone agrees on in regards to AHS. It was just far too grotesque for my tastes. If you're into graphic blood and gore then I can't imagine you won't enjoy it at least a little for that. It was just fucking disgusting sometimes. I closed my eyes and even the sounds still haunt me.

Billy Eichner Cast In Season 7 of American Horror Story

Eichner is joining American Horror Story‘s upcoming seventh season in a heavily recurring role opposite returning AHS franchise stars Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters.

As usual, details about Eichner’s character are being kept under wraps, but sources say he is playing a close confidant of Paulson’s character and mostly will be wearing mysterious tank tops. I hear Eichner will be in six or seven of the 11 episodes in Season 7, which begins shooting in May.

Season 7 will be titled American Horror Story Cult

It seems we'll get a teaser each week until September 5.

I wonder how much clowns and bees are a part of the story, or if it's only some "cult" imagery for the teasers.

I think it might be part of the story. We know there's gonna be something involving Twisty, and I'm assuming the leader of this clown cult is gonna wear that freaky elephant clown mask they showed art of a while back. Very subtle.
