Feels a bit like cheating to resort to arcade titles, but I figure this one is fair game since my grandparents actually had this on their back porch:

In the late 80's-early 90's, Costa Rica had the "advantage" of being so small so no platform holder actually distributed consoles or games here. So all we could access were bootlegs for Famicom, and later Genesis and Super Famicom / SNES.

waiwaiworld2cover.jpg

Wai Wai World 2 (1 was good, but 2 was great)

The grandaddy of game crossovers.

Awesome action game, with an incredible soundtrack.

And the best of them all:

captaintubasa2.jpg

Captain Tsubasa 2: Super Striker.

A sports / RPG hybrid, composed exclusively of cinematic screens. Tecmo was god in Famicom.

Outcast1b.jpg

Not exacly sure how obscure GAF might find this one to be, but Outcast was definitely the first to spring in mind. Such a great game and quite ahead of its time.

Some pc game about the body where you play on a tiled "board" and move from mini-game to mini-game that involved picking the best foods for your money and working out and other health related things. You got a score based on how well you did and at the end of each screen there was a challenge where you compete against another person in some marathon event (first one was to swim across the nile I think). There was this creepy floating jester head that would show up in the caves and try to pressure you into drugs and stuff. I can't remember the name...

Damn, this thread is such a blast from the past

This game was awesome.... But I sucked at it :(

This has to be one of the best games I've ever played. One of the few games where I truly felt like a badass eons before Devil May Cry ever came out.

if9w9.jpg

Shitty Men in Black PC game from 1997. Probably a few here have played it. Aunno.

I believe this was on PS1 as well, LOL. I only persisted just because of the minute detail that it had the Noisy Cricket gun from the movie that actually did throw you back:

noisy-cricket-mib.jpg

And I'll always remember the first boss's name: Twinkle Toes.

Spider-man-cartoon-maker-box-art1.jpg

I played the hell out of this on my IBM!

"Your imagination is the real super hero!"

I remember my neighbor got this when I was 5 years old and geeked out massively over it.

A few people here might have played it.

Wow, how could I forget about this game, it really blew me away when I first tried it.

Warzone_2100_cover.png

Loved the game. It may not have been very good, but the idea of your units being giant lego blocks was just really neat.

0yknu.jpg

A 3rd person shooter. Probably the first shooter I've ever played?

Man, I was so hyped for the movie that I bought this.... but then I realized you could only play as one of the gorgonites I was sad :( Still persisted with it.

Another was Pandamonium for Sega Saturn and PS1

pandemonium-12.jpg

Damn, I remember everyone played this when I was a kid.

As for my contribution:

moon-diver-title.jpg

PSN game that gets pretty brutal later on. But damn are the cutscenes in between missions WACKY!

EatChildren

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

Takeru: Letter of the Law. Awful point and click adventure game. My aunty bought it for me shortly after we got a computer. Typical bargain bin clueless purchase.

It was like Battlezone. Kinda. I actually got a lot of fun out of this, but was always crabby I couldn't enable the super sweet graphics options because I didn't own a voodoo card.

It was like Battlefield before Battlefield. Kinda. I spent most of the game working out how to play the damn thing, and then realising (if my memory serves correctly) that it was mutliplayer focused with no real single player to speak of.

Oh god.

Uprising 2: Lead & Destroy

That was a pretty damn cool game. I remember picking it up from, of all places, Crazy Clarks in Queensland. That and Liberation Day, the sequel to Fallen Haven.

Actually, when they had an odd run of old Activision games as well, I snagged Spycraft: The Great Game as well. Bizarre. Ten bucks a pop, too, for big boxed copies.

Seventh Cross: Evolution for Dreamcast. I actually loved this game on the premise alone. Nobody else seems to have played it, or at least no one remembers it.

Seventh_Cross_Evolution_Coverart.png

You're not alone! One of my favorite Dreamcast games and probably my favorite evolution-themed game. I remember spending hours plugging away at the color grid, randomly trying to get the right body parts to proceed to next area.

I wish people still talked about Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicle, amazing games, some of my favorites of all time. I just finished Dark Cloud again this morning.

Where's Dark Cloud 3? Also, why isn't there more games with weapon systems like these?

playing this game right now. I really like it and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite DC games.

Even if someone here has played it I can guarantee they don't know the systems, match-ups, and strategies as well as I do. I've spent an ungodly amount of time with it. Surprisingly deep for a licensed anime title and leagues ahead of the other Eyeshield games.

And even i am moderately surprised
I'm only posting this because it's an EXTREMELY DUBIOUS game title - and of course i don't think many will have played it :

the lack of a comma makes it sounds like a particularly awful (and illegal) act.

Made an agreement with another GAF member, refused to honor it because he was broke, but then had no problem continuing to buy video games.

Spooky Castle. I remember getting in on one of those 50 games in 1 discs, and it being the only one that had any kind of substance. COOL CAT BAD.

I remember owning both of these, and never playing them. I remember trying to play Lords of Magic and I couldn't figure it out. It came with some kind of cool comic book though!

i get together with one of my friends every so often and we play as many obscure games as we can, so i have played a lot of these, though many are unfinished. we figure we can learn something about games that there isnt a lot of information on.

Okay GAF.

i have this and played a little. my inability to read japanese stopped me.

This is actually an amazing game
played this because i became a sandlot fan after playing edf 2017.
Heart of Darkness - PC/PS1 (as far as i know)
I have never met anyone who has heard of it, let alone played it. It was really fucking hard for me! I never beat it. The intro was really cool. I hope someone on GAF has played it, because then I won't feel so alone.

this has been said, but this is an eric chahi game and isnt really obscure.
Most of.you will have claimed to play River City Ransom when it first came out but you really didn't. I did...I remember blind picking the game because of the box on my birthday..
i played this back in the day because a friend of mine from the neighborhood had it. didnt finish it until it was on the virtual console though.
[IMG]http://i.imgur.com/i9I2t.jpg[IMG]
played this. i really like the idea but it doesnt play that well. and cameron is a crazy religious nut now, which makes it...something. weird i guess.
The best game I owned on the 3DO:

[IMG]http://media.gamestats.com/gg/image/object/005/005724/ReturnFire_3DOBOX-2005usboxart_160w.jpg[IMG]
i played and loved this on ps1 back in the day.
Mine is the Red Star for PS2. Such a great Contra style shooter with great mechanics and a unique universe.

Cyborg Justice

I nominate this purely for the fact that I have never heard it mentioned outside of a few brief instances, and even it's been entirely contained to one corner of the internet. It had a quirky gameplay mechanic in that you could replace your own body parts with those of your enemies, which I seem to remember making everything easy. It wasn't particularly long, and I'm pretty sure it didn't have a final boss, but I still remember it fondly. Fucking nostalgia!

i remember this game. if i remember correctly the super jump legs were basically indispensable, but it was fun to play around with different arms.

Dear god yes. Me and my friend tried staying up all night to beat this. Never did.

IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/JotaFuyer/neverhood2.jpg[/IMG]

The Neverhood, inventive, funny, puzzling and my first romp into P&C adventure games. The music was fucking awesome.

i like the neverhood. decent puzzles and great visuals.

http://lparchive.org/Chulip/Images/1-chulipcover.jpgIMG]

a game about... kissing...
this game was panned when it came out, but i like it.
I loved Shadow of Destiny for the PS2. It was geared more towards the Japanese audience, and I can't imagine many mainstream only gamers would touch it.
love this one. the woman who made this also made time hollow on the ds, which isnt as good, but does exist.

FX Fighter

A PC fighting game in the vein of Virtua Fighter, but nowhere near as good. It ran surprisingly well on my crappy old PC, though! Even if it probably wasn't that great, I remember having a lot of fun with it, and even booting it up just to watch the intro cinematic. God, it's so cheesy.

It was supposed to come out on the PSOne as well, but it was mysteriously cancelled at the last second.

Any time this comes up, you've always got a bunch of people asking for a sequel or remake, and for good reason, that was a good game.

some of the choices in this thread are wierd...

heres some 90s pc games:

Played it, don't remember if it was any good though.

Empire, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_Classic_(video_game).

Spent plenty of hours on that one on my Amiga.

I believe Dark Cloud is mentioned plenty of time whenever HD collections are discussed or RPGs on the PS3

Pandemonium was the game that made me a console gamer. True story. The PS1 had sort of passed me by and then I saw Pandemonium running on a TV in a shop and I was sold. Those graphics were unheard of on the PC at that time.
But it came out on the PC, Sequel did too.

Warlock_(video_game).jpg

Loved this game when I was a kid. I think I never got to the end, the last level was hell for me at the time. I need to turn my Mega Drive back on to see if I can get finish it now.

Played it--well, the NA version. I remember it being pretty great but hard as shit. I never knew it was based on a movie until years later.

Monster Bash. I still remember how zombies exploded into chunks in a way that my young mind wasn't fully prepared to deal with. So awesome.
