Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

That's a good OT title. Can't wait to get my hands on this game. Probably not gonna do as much stuff in this one because I did so much in 0. Never played Yakuza 1 but it's either this or the PS2 version.

Beat 0 on Saturday - loved it, probably my GOTY. Super excited about this game! Sadly I already took too many days off work recently so I'll have to wait until I'm home tomorrow to play it.

Started this yesterday. I'm enjoying it, although it hasn't grabbed me like 0 did just yet.

The substories have been disappointing so far. I've only done about ten, but most of them consisted of a few lines of dialogue and then a quick fight.

it was like this ine Yakuza 1 on Ps2....they have like 70 sidequest, and half of them are only a encounter on the road.....

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
They added a few new ones right? I remember hearing that they did somewhere.

Big addition I read in reviews is a Goro sidequest where he is kind of hiding around the city goofily hoping you find him. Supposedly his interactions have a lot of callbacks to 0 and level up a new fighting style. Probably some other new stuff, but that is the biggest addition it seems.

Still can't get over the fact we've got two new Yakuza games in the same year. Looking forward to jumping into this tomorrow, especially since its been a really long time since I played Yakuza 1.

If it helps, buying digitally is a sure way to let SEGA know you're supporting the franchise.

Or at least it is, in my case, since games tend to exchange so many parties before reaching the brick and mortar store that I'm merely supporting the seller, not the devs.

This is completely untrue in general. If GameStop sells a new physical game for 60 dollars, Gamestop take 10, Sony take 10 and the publisher gets 40.

If you buy digital, Sony takes 20 and the publisher gets 40.

Buying digital does not give more money to the devs. Excluding second hand games of course.

The final cover artwork is bothering me. Why is the girl not centered, wasn't Kiryu supposed to be standing by her side?

I didn't buy Yakuza 0 on launch, but I'm glad I did. It's my first Yakuza game and I'll complete the story later today (I'm already in the final chapter), just in time for Kiwami! :D

What can I say? I've been playing a bunch of Ace Attorney.

I'll change it back. ;)

I have both Yakuza 1 & 2 on PS2 but didn't finish either one of them. I haven't played a Yakuza game since. I think I'm going to grab this and run through it. If I enjoy this one then I'll snag Yakuza 0 too.

Amazon tells me it will arrive tomorrow, my first Yakuza game... i can't wait!
I chose Kiwami over 0 because i heard it's a shorter game but if i will like it i'll be sure to pick up 0 too.

Awesome OT! Can't wait to play this, been mostly on blackout for it so I can see how it compares to the original for myself.

Hope everyone's enjoying Kiwami so far!

In November 2016, I travelled to Kabukicho, Tokyo to film a new documentary series comparing real-life Kabukicho Tokyo to the fictionalized Kamurocho Tokyo featured in the Yakuza series by Sega - Yakuza Locations Tour 2016 (龍が如く : 場所のツアー 2016)

In 2012, I filmed a documentary series, Yakuza Locations Tour 2012 to celebrate the release of the upcoming Yakuza 5 (Ryu Ga Gotoku 5). The documentary was met with overwhelming positive response from the fans and the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios team.

To celebrate my 5th year anniversary on YouTube, this is my tribute to the Yakuza franchise and the amazingly talented team at Sega. This video was a labor of love, made by a fan for the fans.

My Best Buy copy is out for delivery right now...
Is it worth starting tonight if I'm only going to have an hour or so to play? Or should I wait till the weekend where I can sit down and play for longer chunks of time?

I'd wait til the weekend. I'm in the same boat as you. Early delivery, only an hour or so to be able to play today.

Hurrah for Kiwami launch though!

I'm assuming you mean play an hour tonight and then not pick it up again until the weekend.

If you've played Yakuza 1 before I'd start now just to get through the opening until the game opens up more in chapter 4. However if you haven't then you might want to wait until the weekend. The game is frontloaded with story stuff.

If you mean you can only play for an hour or so each night until the weekend, then I think you should be fine starting straight away.

Preordered and got it from Amazon, though I probably won't find time to play it until next year.

0 was great but after it and Persona 5, I wanna play less big games.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Man. I hate how strict Gamestop are to release date releases :(

Gotta wait 1 more day for my steelbook !

One problem with your assumption. There are no Gamestops in my country.

Or in the whole continent for that matter. Hence the 'changing so many hands before getting to me' label

Not everyine here is an American, mate :)

I'm pretty aware of that as I'm Irish :D.

I'd be surprised if the publisher wasn't getting the same amount from a digital purchase as they get from the original purchase of the physical copy, before it changes all those hands on the way to you, but I'm open to being corrected on that.

Don't you live in the UAE? At least games are officially sold in your region.

My games come from people buying games in your region and bringing them here 😩

I'll have my copy tomorrow! In the meantime, I went back to 0 and completed the main minigames for Majima and Kiryu. I wish I did it earlier!
because Mad Dog Of Shimano is broken af. Kiryu's style... not so much
.

Can't wait to jump back into Kiwami!

My copy shipped late last night, can't wait to dive into this tomorrow! Going to be streaming it as well. I played the shit out of Yakuza 0 and came away loving it to bits so I hope Kiwami will be able to match it. Definitely going to do as many side things as possible (even though I know there's less of it this time around).

Ack, only one day left!

Aw yea, in on day one.

I hope the Dragon style is a bit better integrated than it was in 0 though. Being a super late game unlock and having to trade out style switching for it via the pause menu was a bit disappointing.

It's there from the start, down on the D-pad although it gets nerfed hard [early game (chapter 2) spoiler but avoid if you've never played Yakuza 1 before]
after the 10 years in prison
. The Majima Everywhere system is how you build it back up. Judging by my progress with it it's still going to be late game before it's as usable as the other 3 styles, but at least it's always there if you want.

And pulling out your equipped weapon is done by pressing the direction of whatever style you are currently in.

This game is fantastic so far (I'm on chapter 4). I have a feeling I'm going to like it more than Zero for being tighter and more focused.

How old is Kiryu in Yakuza 1?

I assume he is 18? In Yakuza 0 set in 1988.
Then in 1995 he is sent to prison for 10 years.
Then he is released in 2005 in Yakuza 1.

So that would put him about 35 in the first game?
