Fans of the Tanooki power-up will be glad to hear that the Super Leaf makes an appearance in this latest instalment giving you both offensive and defensive abilities. Use your Tanooki tail to both protect you from incoming shells and to whip opponents off the track.

Nice! Haven't seen the tail before.

Wonder how many new items will be available?
So far we know about the Fire Flower and Super Leaf, and there's a "7" icon that appears in the item boxes that we don't know about yet.

And the blue shell is wingless again, though we haven't seen it in action yet.

Please play like the DS version, and not the shitty Wii version! PLEASEEEEEEE!!!

Well, there are less players on the track, so that should alleviate the problem of the track becoming a war zone.

The Wii version was basically identical to the DS one minus more players having access to blue shells. We've seen tricks in videos and it's been said that sliding works like the Wii version (timed vs. disjointed thumbs). If you disliked any of that then you'll probably hate this.

I just noticed that's a SNES track. :D

Ahahaha, good catch, thats pretty neat. Tail swipe reminds me of the spin in Fzero for N64 IIRC.

Those are some really cool camera angles. Nintendo was going GT5 Photo Mode with those screenshots.

Probably because they will all likely show up as 3D screenshots viewable on the DS for promotional purposes.

I hope the Tanuki tail can swipe them away, maybe removing the tail after use to retain some of that leader's penalty.

Must be Tanooki fever at Nintendo.

When the going gets tough, the consumers get Tanooki.

Not sure I want more Mario Kart... been a few years since I played any of the games. Then again, I guess I need to buy something for this damn paperweight, and Mario 3D Land can only last so long. >_>

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Looks good. This thing is going to be a sales beast.

So can anyone figure out which of the SNES Mario Circuits is shown in that one shot? The placement of the pipe is really weird, and I can't associate it with any of them except maybe Mario Circuit 1 done in Mirror Mode...

I hadn't thought of that, but it'd be a pretty clever way to make the new items valuable.

I do hope they put more than 16 retro courses in this time given how much content they have to work with now, maybe releasing them over time on spotpass. It's entirely unreasonable I know, but I still have hope.

Nice sprites for the fans here.

Nintendo is going to make a fortune on this game because they're clearly just trotting out the same old and having a handful of guys port it to 3DS.

Tanooki/racoon tails everywhere! I hope Nintendo doesn't go crazy with this. Game still looks very interesting.

I heard they changed the blue shells in this game. They're more like the N64 version?
