There are 14 different weapons, 3 ranged and 11 melee. Each plays differently. You can switch between weapons before a quest or at the quest camp.

The weapons are...

I like soloing and multiplayer equally, really. But with 16 player lobbies I'll be far more likely to be hanging out helping GAF people than just pounding out my own quests.

Solo MH takes on a different feel especially if you leave your cats behind. You have no safety net to fall back on but the monster is far more predictable. I played MH solo for hundreds of hours and I still enjoy that feeling of just me vs the monster.

The weapons are the classes, although you can change those at will.

For example every Greatsword plays the same, as does every Lance. But those two weapon types have completely different movesets, and are essentially like playing a different character.

Fair point, I tend to forget MH's massive populariy in Japan. I was mostly thinking about western popularity, much like most westerners didn't know or care about From Software until Dark Souls.

Yeah, if the game does Dark Souls numbers in the west (I believe the break down last year was 1.5m in US, 1m EU) it'll probably be the best selling MH game ever with Japan sales added on.

For faces yeah, but this game has no body customization. That was one of DD's strengths.

When can we get a more direct look at this Nergi fight?? With how much the developers are emphasizing the environments and how they come into play, constantly showing off how you should always be kicking toads and swinging off birds and sliding down slopes and igniting seed pods, I was starting to worry the basic combat of this game may not stand on its own, but seeing a good old fashioned man-on-monster face off in a big open mostly flat space is such a relief. I wonder if arena quests are still in...

Shagaru covers the entire arena with it's fly-bomb and leaps. Gore isn't nearly as capable but it lunges far and is aggressive as all hell.

When Gore activates it's virus, it gets even more aggressive. So while it's range is lower, it never stops.

Nothing here is all that unusual post 4U.

I played a few hundred hours of both 4U and Gen. That looked like a longer range attack than 95% of what you see in either. Lucent Narga, Rajang, and Shaggy are the only monsters I can currently think of where you'd have to worry about an attack from that range.

(Though it's been a while.)

I went from being extremely skeptical about this game (based on the "dumbed down" 4chan rumor) to being very excited. This is exactly what next-gen Monster Hunter should look like and I'm stoked as hell.

It's just disappointing that it couldn't come to the Switch. But I'll gladly play Monster Hunter on any platform.

Low ballpark: 25-30. High: Anywhere from 50-70 Its likely closer to the lower, however, they already have shown 15 monsters with 4 months left to go to advertise the game. On top of this are the facts that 1)They generally hide at least 5-10 monsters for release, 2)They have stated this is going to be the biggest MH game yet, but could mean scale and features, not monster count, and 3) The last game has nearly 90 large monsters, a scale and variety I'm sure fans have come to expect at this point, but the tech improvement is a wonderful tradeoff for the time being.

Tl;dr: we don't know, Capcom is extremely good at hiding this games content. And we really have no idea at the moment.

As much as I enjoyed checking through pages and pages to find things, having in-game is great. I wonder if the weapon tree that shows what you need is linked to this cut table? Would make it super easy to see what you need and click to show the monster and where you have to bonk it.
