SbF: Super Best Friends Play Thread: ReBoot

That time of the year again, new thread!!!

Listening to this week's podcast made me wish they should just make it a tradition that Matt is always out on every anniversary podcasts, that stuff about horseporn is pure gold/garbage

My internal convert to australia time process made me miss gamescon so hopefully the video gets fixed soon and I can catch up on a few things.

Boy, that new dark souls monster is terrifying though

Man I was super hyped to watch Steven U again after the podcast.....but then I ran into the same problem as when I first tried to watch it, I hate every moment the main character is on screen.

So during (I think?) The Nep Nep vid they'd say they'd like to do a Corpse Party LP? Cool!

Also, the Steam version of Corpse Party was supposedly to release in 2014...haven't seen any news since last December saying it was delayed to 2015...

Hey nice! I missed the conference so this is a great way to catch up.

What episode are you at? I also used to dislike him but after a certain point he's not obnoxious anymore, keep pushing until ep ~15-20 and then see if you like it.

I might just have a higher tolerance for kid characters, but he does become more competent throughout the series. I'd say stick with it.
And I didn't even notice we're in gaming! Has anyone contacted a mod to let them move us back after a couple weeks?
I'm not insane right. We're still in Gaming Community like we've been for a while.

Watching Matt and Woolie play Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 made my week. I'm going out to buy an RCA splitter tomorrow so I can actually dust off my old N64 copy and rediscover how much of a Japanese wresting mark teenage Essay was. I'm pretty sure my cartridge has all the wrestlers' appearances updated to circa 2004, and I can only imagine what other edits I designed.

If I ever run into Woolie again at a fighting game meetup in his city, he'd better brace himself for the outpouring of puroresu trivium that he's rekindling here.

So I signed up for Rising Thunder, pretty excited about that one. Now all that's left is hoping I get an invite sooner rather than later.

Any fellow Frienders playing already?

Played a couple of matches, it's pretty fun and accessible. The best thing about it is that you can instantly pick up something after you see it just once, for instance I was in a Chel mirror match and the other guy had a slightly more damaging combo than I did, so I started using the same one in the next round. In most fighters that's impossible.

Yeah, saw the Zaibatsu talk about that in the fisticuffs video. Crazy how S-Kill do dat. :p

A good portion of us at least tried it. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of its stuff so I stopped playing, but it's alright, just 10% too little going on in terms of depth and cooldowns suck.

I also should still have an extra code they emailed me, so PM if you want that.

I've just listened to the podcast, and the way Pat described Capcom's thought process regarding Resi 2 Remake made me laugh so much. that was 100% on point

Oh god, you can almost hear Liam's internal monologue during the ARK thing.

"Yeah, it's... it's out, it's insanely popular. It's... making millions of dollars?" I work with a bunch of idiots. This isn't even a mobile, VITA, or Japanese game I'm having to remind you exists at this point.

Edit: Ahahaha, it gets even worse. The Grumpy Old Men "shoutcaster" conversation. No, Matt, you are not technically or even hypothetically a shoutcaster. And the "proper" term is "broadcaster", for the record, it simply doesn't make much sense in a modern context because most "broadcasts" are not being transmitted through wide-band radio signals. A "commentator" (see: color commentator) is a form of broadcaster, as opposed to a "play-by-play broadcaster"; it's a subset, not a top-level definition.

I've asked this in one or two of the MGS5 threads, but no one's really given much of an answer:

Is there any reason at this point not to purposefully and willfully buy MGS5 used?

There's already been confirmation that Kojima does not receive revenue-share on the project as part of his contract. He's already been released. KojiPro has already been disbanded. I'm not normally someone who buys used, but I can't actually think of anyone who's hurt by it this time around except for Konami, and I kind of want to hurt Konami at this point.

They don't care about our goodwill, I don't care about their bottom line. Purposefully buying it used is being petty, or frugal.

Not really, unless you want to play midnight day 1 release. If you want the LE goodies or something I'm sure they'll become used down the line. I'm still buying it, midnight release cause it's MGS and I can't wait lol

Just hurts you if you become like them. Eye for an eye stuff. They are dumb. I usually buy and sell used stuff but not on day 1 so im getting it normal.

Then that's the wrong attitude to have, frankly. You're throwing tiny financial stones at a company for what? To feel better about buying a game?

I learned everything I know about petty-fighting from studying Pat's moves, like a tiny ginger Sakura. This is my distance.

That's a bizarre statement, though. "Why would you do something on principle?" is basically what you're saying, here. Why do I normally not buy games used, when the percentage of my money that goes to the developer tends to be so small, anyway? Because out of principle, I support the developer. Why would I buy a game used, when zero percent of the money goes to the developer?

I mean, if you're trying to get into some high-level philosophy debate about meaning and purpose, then sure, call it a Kantian Directive. At the local level, though, I don't think this is exactly a complicated concept.

Buy games at your local mom&pop game store if you have one. That way you're supporting a local business, which evens out your purchase from a shitty company :)

I can respect doing something on principle
