Trump taps Kushner to lead a "SWAT team" to fix government with business ideas

President Trump plans to unveil a new White House office on Monday with sweeping authority to overhaul the federal bureaucracy and fulfill key campaign promises — such as reforming care for veterans and fighting opioid addiction — by harvesting ideas from the business world and, potentially, privatizing some government functions.

The White House Office of American Innovation, to be led by Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law and senior adviser, will operate as its own nimble power center within the West Wing and will report directly to Trump. Viewed internally as a SWAT team of strategic consultants, the office will be staffed by former business executives and is designed to infuse fresh thinking into Washington, float above the daily political grind and create a lasting legacy for a president still searching for signature achievements.

”All Americans, regardless of their political views, can recognize that government stagnation has hindered our ability to properly function, often creating widespread congestion and leading to cost overruns and delays," Trump said in a statement to The Washington Post. ”I promised the American people I would produce results, and apply my ‘ahead of schedule, under budget' mentality to the government."

A partial list of what Kushner has been tapped to do during this administration, according to the article:

  • driving foreign policy
  • driving domestic policy
  • driving decisions on presidential personnel
  • serving as Trump's lead adviser on relations with China, Mexico, and Canada
  • bringing peace to the Middle East
  • reimagining Veterans Affairs
  • modernizing the technology and data infrastructure of every federal department and agency
  • remodeling workforce-training programs
  • providing broadband Internet service to every American
  • stopping opioid abuse
Easy-peasy. Should take no more than 6 months.

Nothing streaks terror into workers like "SWAT Team of Strategic Consultants," means the company's about to go tits up and its time to bail.

So is that where the USA is?

They did bring the "You're Fired" guy from that TV show in to be the Chief Executive.

I'm glad Trump is trying to run a country like a business. It'll go and show every idiot politician around the world that thinks the same way how dumb of a fucking idea that is.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
In a business, shareholders do have the capacity to oust the CEO if the vision doesn't align with the majority interests...just another lesson Trump can learn hopefully soon.

Government is not, nor has ever been, anything that resembles a business.

Just for one you don't have two separate boards of directors made up of 435 and 100 members each with their own shareholders electing them and each with their own individual agendas. No corporation could function with that alone because it's way easier to get a consensus with a board especially with a strong CEO as opposed to getting Congress to agree to do anything.

It's just so aggravating whenever people try to equate the two.

Good luck, civil servants.

With the Trumps doing this, I suppose we can expect for each federal employee to be doing the work of a dozen and for the United States to go bankrupt within a year.

Does this make Jared a Tsar? I thought Republicans hate Tsars? I remember that distinctly from the Obama years.

What could have happened to have changed their mind on Tsars? ;)

Cross-posting.
“We should have excellence in government,” Kushner said Sunday in an interview in his West Wing office. “The government should be run like a great American company. Our hope is that we can achieve successes and efficiencies for our customers, who are the citizens.”
Starting off poorly by thinking of citizens as customers instead of shareholders. He just spilled the beans.
Kushner’s ambitions for what the new office can achieve are grand. At least to start, the team plans to focus its attention on reimagining Veterans Affairs; modernizing the technology and data infrastructure of every federal department and agency; remodeling workforce-training programs; and developing “transformative projects” under the banner of Trump’s $1 trillion infrastructure plan, such as providing broadband Internet service to every American.

In some cases, the office could direct that government functions be privatized, or that existing contracts be awarded to new bidders.
Kushner will be in charge of funneling our tax dollars to private industry. Got it.
The office will also focus on combating opioid abuse, a regular emphasis for Trump on the campaign trail. The president later this week plans to announce an official drug commission devoted to the problem that will be chaired by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R). He has been working informally on the issue for several weeks with Kushner, despite reported tension between the two.
And exactly what makes Chris Christie qualified to lead an effort to combat opioid abuse?

So blacks will be discriminated against like Trump's other businesses.

Trump's only ever had to care about private companies where he is the majority owner, and hence has never had to bow to anyone.

The one time he tried to run a public company, it crashed and burned, losing shareholders billions.

Don't get it what kind of authority this agency is suppose to have and how exactly are they going to bypass Congress to accomplish these projects?

I like how the best analogy they could come up with for this is a super specialised rapid response government unit.

Cause remember the raison d'être here is that is oxymoronic.

Trump must think Kushner is magic.

He has this...amazing ability to blindside me with his creative use of the power of the office and ingrained corrupt nepotism from his very lowest points. No one expects it, no one can predict the stupidity, it just produces anxiety.

Well, duh. Part of it is going to be working backward from Trump's desired budget cuts to various departments.

Why do I get the feeling when the swamp is drained after Trumps presidency, there are going to be some shopping carts, traffic cones, and a whole bunch of feces at the bottom.

It's always smooth sailing when the CEO brings in his neophyte son-in-law to "make some changes around here."

I still can't believe anyone is able to walk in and get a job in the executive branch without any qualifications. It's absolutely ridiculous that people like Bannon, Kushner, and Ivanka don't have to go through confirmations hearings like other members in government do.

Seriously, what's stopping Trump from picking some random homeless man from the streets and making him one of his advisors?

I'm going to assume here that Kushner has some private consultancy business(es) links and this is just another way of them a bunch of contracts.
