Mass Effect 2 pre-E3 video hits tomorrow

Highly doubt that. Some of those characters are main stays otherwise what would be the significant point of the choices you made to kill them off or keep them alive? I bet Liara returns, Tali, Wrex and either Ashley/Kaden.

While I hope for this to happen, I have a very strong feeling that this won't happen.

HK-47 is right, returning party members creates some very particular problems that I'm just not sure Bioware and EA has it in them to solve. Lets not forget the EA factor, my guess is that EA is going to want this on PS3 somehow..and thats probably one of the main reasons they are already being wishy washy on the Shepard character, and it's another reason why I don't expect them to emphasize the first game TOO much.

For instance, if Ashley comes back, and you romanced Ashley in the first game, then I would assume that you get to continue this relationship in the second game? If so, does this mean that for those characters that are continuing their Ashley relationship, that new romance subplots will be off limits? Or will Bioware write dialogue that allows you to cheat on whoever you chose as your significant other? Keep in mind that this is a TRILOGY, so basically, lets assume that half the gamers kill Ashley in the first game, and the other half kill Kaiden...Bioware, either way, is going to have to write both scenario's into their story. This doesn't even take into account the other choices that you make during the game, nor the things that could happen in ME2 (What if Ashley/Kaiden can die in EITHER game...that would essentially leave Bioware having to write the third game with either each character alive, or with neither alive).

There is other problems, but I'm not going to get redundant about it.

I would LOVE for ME to end up as a trilogy where you forged bonds and friendships, that you were able to influence, and that continued and built upon each other until the end of the series. But I'm not going to get my hopes up for it.

I love you Bioware.

Wanna come back to my place for a drink? My roommate is Steve Ballmer, remember him? Bit of a temper, but don't worry that can be a good thing... and you could call Peter Moore, I know he has a pornstar name but I'm sure he can back it up. We could have a foursome

To me Quarians were presumably fish folk. Check the webbed feet. The borderline aquatic bubbly accent. We dont know what quarians look like so to me it would still be considered new at this point. Info kiosk had the character model of a Asari and I dont give a fuck about that anyway her character was awesome.

The second book describes them as humanoid.

Also, from what little you can see behind her helmet, it looks like she at least has the eyes and the nose in the same place as humans.

I think that ME was just setting up the story and the universe, as well as getting the engine down. From the looks/sounds of things, they are most likely going to be okay on the technical side this time (I couldn't imagine shit like popup being a problem anymore). I hope that with the universe set up, that they focus more time on characterization this time.

Of course, if they get rid of the characters like I'm expecting, than you can expect a bunch of "I grew up on zenos. My people are hunters. My father was a clan leader" type shit again.

You think BioWare will give a nod to those that downloaded the extra mission? Im VERY intrigued with how they handle the Batterians.

I almost feel sorry for them, even though the humans took what they did from them fairly (according to Citadel rules) i cant help but feel bad for them. They didn't have the means to fight. Fight for something that was originally theirs.

More Batterian backstory PLEASE!

I want to hop aboard a floatila too, visit Wrex homeland as well as the Salerians. Lol would love to see Wrex kick off on Salerian soil.

This is a rich universe, theres so much potential for story here. And BioWare are the best story tellers in the industry..... game of the generation for me. ME2 has a lot to live up to.

Well they are hyping this as the "darker second chapter"...this, along with the second book, as well as with what else they have said about the game at this point...all signs point to the Batarians having a bigger presence.

In ME:Ascension, they spend a lot of time going over Omega..which is the Terminus systems version of the Citadel. Lots of Batarian thugs and the like are there...I definitely think we will visit this place in ME2.

Does the extra DLC extend the lvl cap? At the very end of the game I could only get up to lvl 50 and that was doing every side mission and collecting almost every rock, insignia and trinket.

Well sure she has human like features like two arms and two legs. But I can see the race being of a sea born type. Some of the features certainly do line up with water type characteristics.

The extra DLC does not raise the level cap. The DLC is rather short, but is a nice introductions to the Batarians, and also gives you a good item of your choice when you complete it (Colossus armor).

Regardless, it took me 3 playthroughs to get to 60. With the first playthrough doing EVERYTHING, and the next two pretty much just sticking to the main quest. If you're only at 50 now, you don't need a level cap raise for at least another playthrough or two.

Did you play on Insanity yet?

Oh wow, i must have missed that. Omega would be cool. I dont think Batterians are all bad though. Poor guys :(

So are we looking at Empire Strikes Back then in terms of tone and pacing then? EPIIICCCC!!

Dark is a buzzword. I'll believe when it happens.

I get to keep my lvl if I change the difficulty? I already beat the game. I take it in order to get to 60 you gotta play through it on Insanity? I missed getting the Master Spectre gear because of that. I reached 50 during the end sequence with no way to purchase it.

You don't need to play on Insanity to reach 60. Just do a Game+ at any difficulty and you'll be starting the game with your previous level and with all the items you had on you.

Am I the only one who felt a little underwhelmed by that video? I suppose them talking about how better the combat is, more weapons available, graphics boosted a notch, etc isn't my idea of a fun time.

I suppose not having any story details was a bit of a letdown.

Well, it was only a prelude video of E3 - if they announced everything in that video, then there wouldn't be anything left to announce at E3.

You'll get your story, I know that Shepard should be confirmed dead or alive when ME2 shows at E3.

Start a new game using the same save file you used to finish the last one. It's not called a game+ in the menu but that's what it is (well, new game+ but you get the idea).

Edit:

I highly doubt that Shepard is dead and yes, they'll bring back the entire crew from the first game. I will not forgive them for killing any of my crew members. Maybe Garrus will be away as a C-Sec officer or something else depending on how you interacted with him but the rest should be with you from the start I hope.

I hope we get some more awesome side-quests and more interesting planets (main and otherwise). I'd actually have a couple big planets rather than a bunch of small ones.

I'm sure Bioware is aware of the gripes, so whatever, but I'm expecting more this time. I loved the first one- glitches and all, but let's hope they deliver.

Id say you are underwhelmed because you were watching the video and not playing the game. The best thing that they can say in any video they release is that the combat is better and more fun, the enemy and party AI is not shit and any other gameplay improvements they care to mention. The worst thing they can do is say anything about the story because that should be left for the player to experience when they play the game.

Now of course if they wanted to purely hype the game and get first day sales they could have spoiled parts of the story and talk about all the cool things that can happen in it. But in the long run its bad for the people that would play the game.

I have a very strong feeling he's not but it hasn't been officially confirmed yet, until E3 happens, that is.

This is possible? Omg sweet! I hated that I forgot to save along the way so I never got around to the DLC with my main character. I have to check this out, hopefully I won't fuck it up

Well, I don't know if they will really look at the darkest nature of the galaxy they built, but the poster was asking about the Batarian, and since they are supposed to be a "seedy race" who are heavily active in the terminus system, I think we'll definitely be seeing them.

I really hope they take a deeper look at racism, drugs, slavery, etc etc etc in ME2. Time will tell I guess.

You get to keep your level if you change difficulty. I didn't suggest you play on Insanity because it's the only way to get to level 60, I suggested it because it's more of a challenge, and since you're already looking for a level raise, you might want to play the game on insanity to prolong your experience a bit. Like I said, I didn't get to level 60 till the end of my third playthrough, which was also my insanity run. The jump from 58-59-60 is pretty long assuming you're not doing every single sidequest again.

Oh and to start a new game+, just click "Start new Career", and it will ask you if you want to play as the default John Shepard, create a new Shepard, or play with an existing Shepard (Which will be your level 50).

An announcement of an announcement will do that...:D

Same, I really wish Bioware didn't spend so much time on those barren wastelands. Instead of a bunch of empty planets, how about building a couple of actual settlements?

The glitches will definitely be gone, there is no doubt in my mind about that.

I can't help but wonder if the end song to Mass Effect has any relevance to Mass Effect 2.

I have wondered about you
Where will you be when this is through
If all goes as planned
Will you redeem my life again?
My life again

...

And I need you to recover
Because I can’t make it on my own

Just a random thought.

Speaking of the original, I can't listen to M4 Part II without getting the urge to play Mass Effect. It's going to be really hard for them to top this song in the sequel. It fit perfectly with the game. Spring 2010... such a long wait.

You don't have to start over. Just go back enough so you can do his quest.

Anyone who seriously believes Shepard is dead, should automatically get nominated for this year's Darwin award. I don't even know why we're debating this.

Gawdamn, BioWare is so awesome with their designs. Their alien designs are believable; no creative fat on them, the unnecessary details are kept to a minimum.

Gah, now I want to go play the game again just to do screencaps... creepy screencaps.

So, in my game, Wrex is Dead and Raiden is Dead and I didn't even get to shag that Alien chick - I'm the female sheppard BTW.

So I'll have to find a previous save file or restart it again to get these character back in the original or start a new game I suppose.

Agreed 100%. When the song started playing, the game REALLY felt like a science fiction movie from the 80s. I liked that a lot.

The art in Mass Effect has always reminded me of those paperback sci-fi covers. The first trailer ever released for the game gave me this feeling, but the actual game didn't. I hope they emphasize that old sci-fi feeling in ME2.

This is kind of random but I went and saw Star Trek for the second time last night(Love that movie) and the whole time I was watching it I couldn't help but think of how unbelievably bad ass ME2 is going to be. To me its the closest any game has ever come to capturing the core feeling of Star Trek. I kind of hope we get some kind of space battle gameplay as well but that could just be the movie sifting through my brain.

ME and the new Star Trek would need to have significantly less action and more philosophizing to do that.

Ha that's very true I am a passive fan of the old Star Treks but I really loved the new one it completely re-ignited my itch for some sci-fi.

Looking at the trailer again I very much doubt that any members of the crew were on board when that explosion happened but is Shepard even capable of piloting the Normandy alone? I think it's also safe to say that an explosion of some sort caused the damage of the ship, either by weapons fire or perhaps some sort of sabotage. How would the Normandy even be trapped? It's stealth systems and speed make that a pretty hard task although a Reaper might be able to manage it.

I can't wait to see where the story goes for ME2.
