Still, some W3 fans might not have played the previous games.

Even if people give it away it still gets people into the GOG ecosystem, which could turn them into potential buyers.

Free games like this are always neat, but it makes me wonder how many of the players in the current beta don't already have it. They've been giving it away free few times already I think, to people buying W3 for example. And even then, it's been on countless of sales for just a two bucks. Still a nice gesture though.

They already gave Witcher 1 away near the start of the closed beta as well. It's to get people into the gog ecosystem and I'm sure they are aware most will gift the code.

I got an email with this and never bothered using my closed beta key after I saw what the games interface looked like

Yeah, me neither. Either they're doing it in waves or there was some cutoff date some didn't meet. Oh well.

Edit: Looks like Witcher 1 is also free at the moment: https://www.gog.com/game/the_witcher

Can anyone verify? The page is now -85% after I redeemed it, but it was -100% before that.

Already own the game, twice. Once on 360 and another on Steam.

Hope someone that hasn't played it gets some enjoyment from this. The game is pretty great - overshadowed only by The Witcher 3.
