Reuters report that an entire street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was covered by cockroaches that emerged from a sewer drain: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-philadelphia-cockroaches-idUSKBN1A3293

Residents of a Philadelphia street were horrified when thousands of cockroaches emerged from a sewer drain, forming a swarm so big that it covered the street at one stage, according to city officials and local media.

"There were thousands of them," resident Pat Wall told NBC10 television of the incident. "It was a horror story that I couldn't believe I was living."

A small task force of city workers found the source of the infestation, a drain clogged with refuse, said John DiGiulio, a spokesman for the Philadelphia Water Department. That may have contributed to the swarming in the city's riverfront Bridesburg neighborhood, he said.

Roaches are a fact of life all over the city, and the creatures thrive in warm, moist environments, DiGiulio said.

"It's unfortunate but they do live in those type of environments," he said. "It could have been a disturbance or anything to make them come out."

Health department workers will also bait the sewer line in an effort to fight the bugs.

I'm super phobic about cockroaches... I would probably scream, pass out, and then move. Or just burn my house down.

now to leave this thread forever before someone posts pics

From ABC13-

On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Water Department flushed the manhole and vacuumed out debris from the inlets.

"Behind them came the health department to put an insecticide into the sewer," Water Department spokesman John Digiulio said. "To hopefully treat and remediate the situation."

I think that's how the CHUD started.

'Horror Story': Neighbors Say Thousands of Roaches Crawled Out of Manhole and Invaded Philly Street

"Everybody is out here with spray cans spraying bugs," one resident said

Residents in a Philadelphia neighborhood are keeping their bug spray on hand after they say thousands of cockroaches crawled out of a manhole and began invading their street.

"When I tell you thousands of them, there were thousands of them," Pat Wall told NBC10 Monday.

Wall and other neighbors say the roaches began crawling out of a manhole at the intersection of Salmon and Plum streets in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia Sunday night and haven't stopped since. At one point, according to Wall, there were so many that she couldn't see the ground.

"When I tell you all the neighbors down this end were out here spraying and stomping, it was a horror story that I couldn't believe I was living," she said. "And they were flying all over. Never had to duck a flying roach."

Wall said it's the worst roach infestation she's ever seen.

"Everybody is out here with spray cans spraying bugs," said Paul Basfort, another resident. "They were stomping them and they were running right out of there."

This is why I have homeowner's insurance.

I will only have to pay my $1000 deductible for accidentally having to set my house on fire if this ever happened.
