One of my favorite visual features in the game is the volumetric fog and the way it interacts with light.

How far %wise in the game before you get that armor?

Thats the Shadow Stalwart. I think you can buy it in Sunfall and probably at merchants nearby.
You also get the "Light" version after you completed a specific quest in Sunfall.
Afterwards you're not welcome in Sunfall anymore and can only enter when you are wearing the Shadow Stalwart

So I'm level 35 and I think I'm nearing the end because the next mission for me is

I've seen you guys talk about the character
Nil and how he shows up when you clear out bandit camps. What if I've cleared out most of the camps and still haven't talked to him? Where would I find him? Would I just have to go back and look through all previous camps I've cleared?

If you just talked to him once to start his 'quest',
you can literally do all of the other bandit camps without even needing to see/talk to him. Once you finish the last bandit camp, the game will auto update his quest with the location where you can meet him to end the quest.

Where can you get more power cells? Only have 1. 15 hours in. Also, please tell me more side quests open up? Same thing with Cauldrons, only found 1, is there more? The map is somewhat filled out. I haven't got to Meridian yet in the story.

They are all found in main story dungeons.

Every dungeon except the
Zero Dawn Project
has one. Including the prologue dungeon that you can return to as an adult and the All Mother's Temple from early in the game.

I find myself really conflicted on this game, probably about halfway in I suppose. It's weird to read the nearly perfect "masterpiece" level praise in this thread because I feel like this game has such highs and lows.

The presentation feels all over the place. At times it's top notch and at others the animations, voice acting, overall sound design are sloppy and subpar. Aloy is definitely great while some npcs and quest givers are emotionless or are overacting. The repetitive quips from enemies and npcs in some fights stands out for sure.

The world is incredibly well built and atmospheric, but the cities are lifeless and static, npcs don't wander the streets and merchants are nothing more than a menu prompt. One such example is after a certain explosive event happens in the city and guards come running over, yet a quest giver is still in the same spot yelling the same stuff he'd normally do.

Combat is amazing when it comes to the machines and how you need to exploit their weaknesses. But the human combat is really really bad and unsatisfying, and I feel like I'm spending way too much time doing that. Melee also stands out as really clunky and bad, although getting a heavy stun and critical can be great.

The story overall is compelling, but leaves a lot to be desired in the actual storytelling. Dumping huge parts of exposition in nonstop data and audio logs is not how to do this. I know we're supposed to be discovering ancient technology and history, but there should be a better way to pace this stuff out.

I also don't feel like so far there have been any hard choices to make. No tough story decisions, no difficult build choices in progression, it all feels like a more straightforward experience, for better or worse.

There are times here that I feel Horizon reaches the level of the Witcher, but so many of the little quirks really stand out. I want to continue because when I get to the stuff I like I love this game, the bad parts are definitely hard to ignore. It definitely stands above some of the more bland open world games out there, but I don't think as much a as some are giving it credit for, at least with how much I've played. I hope my opinion improves.

Just beat it. Excellent game without being anything truly groundbreaking, with the exception of the machines themselves, which were a cut above any other enemies I've encountered in a game. Other than that it was just a standard open world game, but one done to the highest quality.

Ending to the story was a bit 'meh' for me, though I enjoyed the final mission.

Not sure if I'll bother clearing off all the map marker collectables, I rarely do in games like this. That said I'll be coming back to this game for the landscape porn for a long, long time.

Well worth the money and time.

Welp, I'm level 48, have all the blazing suns for each hunting trial, cleared every corrupted zone and bandit camp, done every tallneck, and finished all the cauldrons. Guess it's time to start doing some of the story.

Not cavemen. Nora seem like 9th century AD Viking level and the Carja and Oseram somewhere around the 15th or 16th century Italy level.

You have to understand that a lot of people really don't care about many of that stuff or they care very little to take it into account. Personally I only feel like you in the human combat department. The rest? fantastic, love the cities, voice acting, npcs, storytelling (although I do agree there should be a better way to tell it but it's so fucking good that I didn't care).

there was a plan from your maybe mom called Zero Dawn. Fucking love the intrigue in this, can't wait to figure out what it was.

66 hours, and I'm done. My 7th platinum and probably the one I had most fun earning.


I finished everything up so the platinum popped when I completed the final story quest. Glad you don't need to collect every data entry to get to 100%, even though I love listening to/reading them, I feel they'd lose some worth if not encountered organically.


My GOTY so far, and I can't think of anything else coming up that would unseat it. Can't wait for the DLC (and inevitable sequel). Massive congratulations to Guerrilla, they did an amazing job.
 
Just a few hours in but really loving it. One question, however -- I have a regular PS4 but a Samsung KS8000 with 4K and HDR. I know the regular PS4 won't let me do 4K but does it do HDR or do I have to get a Pro for that? Still, gorgeous even as-is on a regular.

All PS4s are HDR compatible with this game if i remember correctly

Edit: Platinumed the game an hour or so ago. With 94.6% completion

How early are you able to find all the
power cells
to unlock the

It's pretty much end game content cause you find the final one near the end of the game I have it and I think I have one story mission left.
 
All PS4s are HDR compatible with this game if i remember correctly

Hmmm, then I wonder what I'm doing wrong. Will having the KS8000 in Game mode prevent HDR? I'll try switching out of Game mode and see, or switching to HDR+ mode.

Edit: Got it, new TV, had no idea I had to enable it for the specific HDMI port (4, in this case).

fight was one of the most intense non-souls fights I can remember in a while.
I remember that being amazing, yeah. Was actually scared for a bit that I wouldn't make it out (and be able to get another save point). Just wait, there's crazier ones coming :-D

Hrm, noting that I played through on Hard, which does add some extra machines. So YMMV may vary ;-)

Platinumed. 12th overall. Shows how good this game is when I couldn't bring myself to Platinum Far Cry Primal (with only the do 10 Help Wenja, 15 Tribal Clash, and Unlock All Skills trophies left) while I went out of my way to Platinum HZD.

Just started this game after beating zelda. HOLY SHIT its gorgeous, even on a base ps4. Really enjoying the gameplay and story so far. Only a few hours in.

Some of you, and some of youtubers have more than 1 weapon of the same type (like 2 shadow bow). Any tactical advantages ?

Just started playing today and got the
corrupter spear thing
. This game is fun but I must admit the traversal is really underwhelming coming from breath of the wild. And the dialog animations while not Mass effect Andromeda bad are not very good.

Fun game though and the storyline is very intriguing. Also melee combat is kind of lackluster compared to all the ranged combat offerings. Does this change? Because I love the ropecaster.

There's 3 different type of bows, War (shoots
electric, freeze and corruption arrows
), Sharpshooter (shoots
arrows that blow off parts called tearblast
and a high damage arrow) and Hunter (shoots fire and cheap to make standard arrows), Shadow is just the higest level.
You can get a Warbow from a quest, but all the rest you need to buy, there's also a Warbow for sale.

Horizon now is tied with Bloodborne as my Games of the Generation. Fucking GG, Guerrila Games!

Just quicker to switch, have one bow dedicated to corruption arrows and another one set up for freeze. Can equip both at once, or just save time swapping mods around.

I haven't actually done this yet, but am not far away from needing to!

It's also about time I stop carrying around tonnes of hearts and lenses, because I'm really tired of needing to sell stuff every half hour.

A random QOL feature that might help with mid game resource mgmt, would be setting your own per-item carry limit. So i don't end up with 5 slots of chillwater, for example.

I've learnt now anyway to be more selective about the loot I pick up ... But that's also more of a PITA than this game is really designed to be. I need to transition away from carrying hearts, fox skins etc ASAP.

I am with you on this one. I think it is a pretty formulaic open world game that doesn't use its potential. The beginning was pretty promising and every now and then it gets interesting again. But after these highs there are a lot of lows and the game often becomes tedious to me. To add to your list I wish they would have done a cool inroduction to certain enemies and areas and despite the problems you mentioned the AI is ridicoulous at times. I also think the invisible barriers are a pain in the ass.
The combat feels good and since Horizon is successful we will hopefully get a more fleshed out sequel next time. The foundation is really good.

I agree with your negatives and i have fewer positives. Very overrated.

I would add more to this (as I have far more problems with it), but this suffices. I liked my time with the game, but I had to force myself through it toward the end. The end has a terrible pay off imo (no spoilers). I just...don't get all of the praise.

Like I have said in the spoilers thread...sucks to be me I guess.

I think the first 5-10 hours were really really good. I loved it. The more I found out about the world, the more story lore dumping I got, the bigger the enemies got, the more humans I came across....the worse my time got.
