No need to worry about damaging your monitor or video card. It's a completely reversible process (clean GPU driver install) and, in more than three years of problem-free downsampling, I have yet to hear of anyone bricking their monitor or anything like that. Downsampling, or OGSSAA, actually used to be a common feature, but it was quickly abandoned by Nvidia and AMD for other less demanding forms of AA.
