Today we announce that the next Fall Update for Xbox One will begin rolling out today. Mike Ybarra has this post on Xbox Wire but here is a list of some of the new features in this update:

You can personalize your “Home” more than ever before: You can…

Make Home uniquely yours. Add your favorite games, friends, Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass, and more directly to your Home screen with a new concept that we call blocks. Once you’ve added blocks, you can remove or change the order of the blocks as you see fit.
Have up to 40 pins! All these pins will appear in the Pin block on Home, as well as the Pins flyout in the new Guide!
Easily discover new things, such as friend activities, leaderboards, LFG posts, tips, quick links to Game Hubs, across both your console and Xbox Live at the top of Home.
Choose dark, light, or high-contrast theme option in Settings.

You’ll experience a fast, powerful and convenient Guide:

It’s now faster and easier to move left and right through horizontal tabs with the left thumb stick or bumpers.
When you bring up Guide while in an active party or broadcast, Guide will automatically open the party or broadcast section by default for faster access to controls.
New “Friends in games” flyout informs you of friends playing the same game.
Game invites wills how up in the Multiplayer tab of the guide.
The new Tournaments section in the Multiplayer tab of the Guide provides a quick portal into the official and community tournaments that you’ve joined. Enjoy more Xbox Arena tournament options with the addition of new titles.

Don’t worry about missing any actions when you step away from your console:

With the enhanced notification system, when your Xbox One is idle, time-sensitive activities and status are visible from far away.
The screen-dimming functionality has also been updated to better prevent screen ghosting, both when the screen is dimmed and when it’s showing notification snapshots of what’s happening on Xbox Live.
The newly redesigned Game Hub Welcome tab now features a summary of all the great content around the game on one page.
Profiles now enable faster access to recent activity. You can now easily manage who sees your activity feed content through the “Others can see your activity feed” privacy setting.
See more content at a glance with new Community feed, and view screenshots and game clips in an immersive, full-screen view.

Get a head start on Xbox One X (Launch Day Nov 7):

Your console setup experience will be quicker for both new users and upgraders. There are new options to help save time when moving from one Xbox One to another (including Xbox One X), so you can get back to playing faster.

Transfer your games to an external drive so you can connect it to your new console and play immediately. Just unplug the drive from your current console, plug it in to your new one, and you’re ready to go.
Existing Xbox One owners can back up their games and console settings to an external drive so that they’re ready to be applied to the new console during setup.
Copy your games and apps over your home network from one console to another via network transfer.
Bulk transfer will allow you to select and transfer as many games as you want all at once.
You’ll be able to download 4K content for some games ahead of time to your Xbox One or Xbox One S, so that you’re ready to transfer Xbox One X Enhanced games to your new console on day one.
You can easily discover over 130 Xbox One X Enhanced titles in the Store, and developers can optimize game delivery by making sure that 4K assets are installed only for Xbox One X.
When visiting the Store, you will also see a new Microsoft Store logo and name in the Xbox dashboard (this has already begun rolling out to Windows 10 devices), providing customers with a simpler experience.
You’ll be able to sort and filter your Installed and Ready to Install games library to find Xbox One X Enhanced titles.

Discover and Create Engaging Content:

The Mixer tab on the dashboard will now display broadcast previews so you can see what’s going on in popular streams before you join them.
If your bandwidth supports a 1080p broadcast, we will upgrade it automatically for your Xbox One family of devices.
The Broadcast & Capture tab in Guide is also now more deeply integrated with Mixer. Once you start a Broadcast, a new flyout will appear that includes your profile stats.
You can also use a USB webcam to broadcast yourself alongside your gameplay on Mixer, or to have a 1:1 or group video chat with friends using Skype.
GameDVR will now be able to capture up to 4K/HDR screenshots and game clips on Xbox One X, and you’ll be able to capture content directly to an external hard drive.

Other features include…

You can get personalized tips & help, smart notifications, community tips, & troubleshooting through the new Xbox Assist App.
You can also change your console language to select right-to-left languages – Arabic & Hebrew – in the Xbox Settings menu.
You will also see a new Microsoft Store logo and name in the Xbox dashboard, providing you with a simpler experience when you download and buy the latest products and content from Microsoft and its partners, including hardware, games, entertainment, apps and more.
Again, this update will start to roll out today and you’ll be prompted sometime in the next few days to take the update.

I've had this update for a while and I'm really digging the speed and easy access to everything I need within the guide.

I really hope this doesn’t make the blacks brown in 4k bluray playback like it did when I was in the alpha. Ended up buying a separate player and when I left the program and it rolled my system back of course the blacks were fine.

Yuck

One of the reasons I bought a standalone UHD player, as I've heard not so good things about the BluRay app, and I plan to get a One X next month.

Looking forward to the Xbox One X transition utlities.

I've had the new guide for a little while now and I don't like it as much as the last one. I find the 'Friends' tab to be confusing in the guide and dislike how it just shows friends icons without having to click into the friends list and expand it. I have a small number of friends and know most of their icons, but I'd imagine this would be a bigger problem for someone who has dozens or hundreds of friends online.

Allowing more pins is nice, but I don't like how tiny they are by default.

The prominence of 'Mixer' is interesting to me... I really don't care about streaming or watching people stream, and so this having it's entirely own tab on the dashboard seemed pretty wild to me, and to me it just gets in the way because I don't care about streaming really. But it's interesting how hard Microsoft is going in on Mixer. The few times I have streamed, Mixer seems great. Although I wish the little badge showing viewers/time disappeared. You can move it around but I hateit being omnipresent. I'd prefer it only appear maybe like when you got a new viewer in your stream and then it faded out, or when you hit a specific time milestone (5mins, 10mins, 15mins, etc).

The new top section is good though.

Overall it feels more like a lateral move, as opposed to the upgrade that came out 6 months ago or a year ago that had the revamped guide, which I thought was a major improvement. Overall I don't really care about it, just doesn't seem like an improvement to me.

But because I've been in the beta/preview for so long I never really know if I'm using new versions or something else.

I wasn't on board with the design changes but it's really snappy. Light theme is great too to get away from the constant grey that was old XB1.

Now if only devs started putting up their XBX patches...

Agreed, I think this new update needs a little time to appreciate the changes, but once you start using it, it definitely is faster responding, which is nice.

The best part of this update is how damn fast My Games & Apps is, it's been slow as hell done launch, but even with 300+ games installed I don't get any of the hitching anymore, boxes well for the X I think

They were originally going to roll them out a few weeks ago to insiders but had to pull them back. I would expect an early 2018 launch of them.

Everyone should check out the white theme. It's glorious. I want them to add a fading theme that allows you to have it slowly transition either from dark to light or vice versa depending on the time of day.

Been using it in the preview program for a while now... Those of you who haven't had it all this time are in for a treat.

The new guide is even faster to load than before and even easier to navigate.

The Achievements app kind of took a UI and ease of use hit... But the new Guide far outweighs the negatives.
The new Guide is the kind of killer OS feature I wish the PS4 had.

Also, the Light theme is quite good.

A month of Live. I totally forgot it was going on so I was surprised to see the message from Xbox.

Also, be sure to check your messages from Xbox. If you're in the new dash, it doesn't pop a notification for some reason.

I found a tweet from someone at Xbox who is working on the avatars.

Think they skipped over to next build, assets aren't done yet. Structure is ready though.

While I'm not the one you responded to, I was in the first Tier and got a $5 XBL gift card code.

This month I decided to test it out more and should already be in the 2nd Tier with only one more achievement to get the 3rd Tier

OT:
I've had this update for a couple of weeks and am not impressed. Also I just realized today that I haven't been getting notifications for achievements, messages etc since I got the update

Welcome to the future for those who are downloading. :)

I like the new UI and the changes that they made. Doesn't seem that they will need to change it much more than what they have now. To me, the Guide is perfect.

They need to add the little mini guide back to the Home screen. I want to be able to see how many friends are online, how many messages and I have and how many notifications I have without opening the Guide.

see, this is the type of stuff i dont get. Why do they change things that arent broken. I too liked seeing how many people were online from the dash. Some decisions are so stupid.

Pressing the Xbox button slides out the sidebar that shows people online, messages etc. Press again to close it.

Downloaded this and this is instantly a huge improvement over the old dashboard. I don't use my Xbox One much but it was always sluggish as hell and the grey completely flat design was so ugly. Seems like it's now actually fast and snappy (for now) and the light theme looks nice.
Structure-wise it's still a bit of a mess. Don't like how much of the homescreen is wasted on ads.

point is, no button needed to be pressed before and you saw this information. I get that in game i have to press the button, but from the dash too?? Why not just make those customization boxes a tad bit smaller and put your number of friends somewhere on the dash so no button has to be pressed.... No one saw this in the preview?? Such a bonehead move

I'd like seeing the friends number on the left, but the flipside of that is that information is near-useless without opening the guide anyway.

A good speedy update, but then again I've been able to play my Xbone without weeping about whatever for years now.

I guess that's great if you always sit on the dash but what about when you do anything else with the system?

Actually the main screen does show players online, things being installed etc. Hopefully they can tweak it to make it a bit more customizable.

The main dash should always have some "required information", like for example an icon for: Friends Online, Messages and Notifications. Its just common sense. And if the user wants to know more, then yes, press the button. But that basic information should always be there.

If they want, then they could add customization to those icons like: only update those icons for the people i select, games i select, etc. Its basic shit that they should be nailing by now....
