will totally Facebook friend you! *giggle* *LOL*
Totally thought those women were the same for a second, but that was more because my mind was trying to figure out if her breasts had gotten bigger or if it was just the bra, until I really looked at the faces.

This is good news. I liked Casino Royale quite a bit. Quantum of Solace though? Can't remember a damn thing that happened in the film. Very forgettable.

Hopefully they get a new director.
Can't agree more. Casino Royale was amazing, Quantum of Solace boring and forgettable, and since the cast didn't change, I blame it all on the director.

Edit: quoting a post from 2010... *yay*

QoS was gritty and realistic. The problem was the rushed script and the lack of finesse that CR had.
It has probably been discussed to death but that parachute scene from QoS...

Is that even theoretically possible to survive without any broken limbs etc.?

It's survivable, but yeah you can't walk away from that without breaking something.

Blows my mind how that got into the movie then. I mean how can you include a scene that makes every single one in the cinema go "Hey, what? That can't be right"

QoS was gritty and realistic.
I'll give QoS gritty (though it's kinda like it didn't want to be a lot of times), but the CGI computer OS stuff that should've stayed in the 90's really killed the "realistic" part (or rather the "take this movie seriously" aspect of it). This is while admitting that CR's exploding barrels are also completely unrealistic but much less ridiculous than that. My biggest fear is that even if Skyfall ends up a much better movie that they'll still use that CGI OS.

CR used honest to goodness internet + secret databases. It didn't need to look fancier than that, especially in an age where people are actually exposed to that technology on a regular basis now.

CR is 5 years old in 6 months. How time flies. Jesus, I can't take another 4 year break. I just can't. So HYPED that they are just weeks away from shooting and a year from release.

EDIT: part of Bond 23 will be shot here, at this castle in Scotland:

From the owner of that castle:

Patricia Malcolm, who resides in the castle with her husband Robin, said: "They are coming here at the end of February and are going to film for several days. They are using the castle - just the outside - it's going to be used for the end of the film.

"I think it is meant to be James Bond's ancestral home - he will bring all the villains here."

Could be/probably is BS, but if true, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Uuuuhh....isn't James an orphan?

If by "all the villains", he meant like the classic villains, this could be very weird and cool. If he meant this film's villains, which is far more likely, then still interesting.

Can they still get this out by Nov 2012?

Yes. October 26 in England, Nov 9 everywhere else. If you're worried, let me calm your fears:
- Casino Royale started shooting in January 2006 and released in November 2006
- Quantum of Solace started shooting in January 2008 and released in November 2008

In comparison, Skyfall has 2 EXTRA months of time.

Once Bond films start shooting, they run a ridiculously tight shift. EON is very good at making Bond films in a short amount of time.

Yes. Wouldn't be the first time they've altered Fleming's canon though. Like I said though, its likely BS - how much would they really tell the owner about the film's plot?
I haven't been following Bond 23 too much, but isn't Craig reprising his role? If so, it was established in CR that he's an orphan, even within this movie timeline.

But yeah, probably BS.

Incidentally, isn't James' Scottish heritage a retcon as well? I seem to remember that it was something that Fleming did after he was surprised at how well Connery handled the role.

Yep. From Wikipedia:

James Bond's parents are Andrew Bond, from village of Glencoe (Argyll, Scotland), and Monique Delacroix, from Yverdon (Vaud, Switzerland). Their nationalities were established in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Fleming emphasised Bond's Scottish heritage in admiration of Sean Connery's cinematic portrayal, whereas Bond's mother is named after a Swiss fiancée of Fleming's.

I had a brainfart - he isn't an orphan. CR retconned him into one.

Hmm, I'll have to have a good long think about when that retcon was put in place. And why, lolz.

I thought it was Goldeneye that first retconned Bond into an orphan?
Yeah. His parents died in a climbing accident. I'm not entirely sure that's the first time, but that's the earliest I remember.

Even if they stick with the canon of Bond being an orphan, well, orphans still have biological parents and Bond has top secret access to information, so its not beyond the realm of possibility that he will abuse his credentials to gain that info.

In an alternate universe, James Bond is the name of the original Immortal Iron Fist

The name is Rand. Daniel Rand.

Wouldn't he be considered an orphan if his parents died when he was a child?
That's pretty much the definition of an orphan.

I had forgotten that. FWIW, in the book reboot Carte Blanche this is true as well.

I'm excited for this. Sam Mendes is a good director.

Casino Royale is brilliant. Despite people's issues with it's pacing, that's one of my favourite things about it.

Quantum of Solace was a mess.

People have an issue with CR pacing?

It's basically perfected paced :\ Great blend of action sequences, character development and tense interaction between Bond and the villains.

I think the pacing is fine. I think what he perhaps meant is that its very oddly structured. I mean, name another action movie that has almost all its action in the first act, then becomes a suspense thriller in the second act, and then becomes a love story in the third act.

Of course, that structure is part of what makes the movie so great.

My man, Peru.

*fistbump*

QoS is a dramatic departure from CR, and in no way comes close to it, but QoS is a damned fine Bond movie, featuring the most authentic portrayal of the Bond character yet seen. And yeah, its anything but formulaic.
