Switch previews bumming me out.
Why can't Nintendo ever do ANYTHING right?
I want to get excited for your 300 dollar device but you just won't let me.

6 minutes in Mass Effect Unfinished and they drop the Dragon Age: Inquisition comparison.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

They also talk about ability priming/detonating as if it's a new concept to the series. Not saying the comparison isn't valid, but they seem to have forgotten a lot about how Mass Effect played.

Today in Yakuza

I did a side quest where I had to buy a young boy pornography complete with moral debate if it was OK to do so AND a stealth section for sneaking up to the porn dispensing vending machine.

Yakuza 0 is still great 30 hours in. Also I finally dug into real estate and now I am making 60million+ every few minutes and that number just keeps. getting. bigger.

I tried to tell Jeff that Yakuza 0 real estate is basically a clicker but strangely that doesn't seem to have been enough to convince him to play through the game.

Meme archaeologist need to be a thing. We must know how these things not only start, but spread and proliferate. Like, the original use was in 2015 and it only exploded in 2017.

What hath GBgaf wrought?
Lady Turian.

Alright, that's actually cool.

The story and companion stuff is really my last big question about ME:A. If they go by the DAI template it will be scarce, only serving as a vehicle to travel between locations. The only thing in its benefit is that it didn't have the same development shift DAI did, so perhaps there's more story to actually string everything together with... and in a satisfying way.

They get the motivation for the Andromeda initiative wrong, but that's something a ton of people have been getting wrong also. I think the 'backup plan for reapers' thing was leaked speculation. Devs have since said that it's more interesting if the characters volunteer to leave the galaxy for reasons other than 'to live'.

Additionally, the 'Inquisition is the template for BioWare going forward' line Jeff referenced got walked back/clarified many months later.

Wanna be a little more specific?

Sure.
Stuff like undercooked features at launch (no activity log which the Wii had from the beginning) , desync issues with the left Joycon, not charging properly while on the dock.
I might have been a liiiiittle dramatic though :p
(Seriously though, I thought that with the Wii U basically having been abandoned in 2016 they would've not launched like this.)

It's pretty clear that this is just being pushed out to meet the fiscal year and make their numbers look better. If you don't need to play Zelda immediately, wait until the fall and consider that the official launch. It should look better and more fully-featured around then, and all the issues will (hopefully) be ironed out

There was Nyreen, a female Turian, in the Omega DLC for ME3. She was cool.

Yeah I never played Inquisition so I'm not sure what made people fear it so much, but I really like what I've seen of Andromeda so far.

Most important thing to me, the multiplayer, is still yet to be seen though.

I don't want any DA:I in Mass Effect.
Mining and gathering NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

This game looks alright. But... That's kinda it? Alright? Mass Effect 2 is one of my favourite games of all time. This looks like an "I'll get this eventually" title to me.

Nothing i am hearing ir seeing from Mass Effect Andromeda looks particularky special. Its just anither one of those and I was already tired if it with the third. Also all those Dragon Age Inquisitiin comparisons are frightening.

I might still play it eventually, but it realky looks like simething I can pick up on the cheap come black friday.

Short of the Joy-Con syncing issues, which sounds like it might be a firmware thing rather than a hardware issue, the Switch impressions sound EXACTLY like anyone who was paying attention back in January expected. Slick hardware, underbaked launch, basically a Zelda machine to begin with.

Kind of is a thing already. There's Know Your Meme which is user generated tracking of meme backgrounds. You could also look at Encyclopedia Dramatica if you hated yourself.

When they first talked about the next Mass Effect, they did a survey and the number one voted thing was playable alien customization

If they had made Mass Effect: Origins, that would ahve been great. This just looks like Mass Effect 3: Inquisition

Yup. Which is why I keep telling people if you don't need to play Zelda, hold off. Don't even think about buying it till the fall because you'll only be disappointed and regret it. There's enough games through the Spring and Summer that I'll be buying, but for the general audience you should wait and not even think about it.

$370 if you want a non-garbage controller to play it with

460€ if you want a good controller and a single game (Switch is 330 here).
I mean seriously. That's insane. No VC, the next somewhat big game after the launch titles will be out in 3 months.....they really 100% forgot how to launch a console. Nintendo really sucks as a hardware manufacturer.

A bit odd that Brad got 90 minutes with Mass Effect while bunch of other outlets are saying they played 4 hours. Might have just got his fill, or the appointment was at a bad time?

They didn't forget, they just literally had to get it out before the end of March. Otherwise FY2016-2017 would be a disaster and their stock would've plummeted, and shareholders would've been pissed off. It's painfully obvious that this thing is meant to launch in the fall, but they had to get it out now for business reasons

I mean, it's not like this is unusual. We see this with every hardware launch. I held off with buying a PS4 at launch and you'll always have a better experience getting a system later on.

I have said that for a while. I bet after launch this console will be easily available. I just can't see the mainstream demand.

I'm anxious to see how the Switch will be received by the mainstream. If you just look at it as a home console, it looks like a really bad deal.

It's not like the 3DS or the WiiU launched much better though.

but neogaf told me that nintendo games are a good investment because they never go on sale

really you're just making smart financial decisions by getting one. you can put your kid through college on it.

The problem with DAI is that it has so much #content and all of it is A) the same; a B) completely meaningless to the greater story. It is content for content's sake, and nothing else. Crafting, gathering, and killing are 99% of what you do, and it's basically the other extreme of what DA2 was.

For comparison, if the Witcher 3 cut out 90% of dialog and was just White Orchard copied and pasted, oh, a dozen times with different appearances you'd be approaching what Dragon Age: Inquisition is.

Also, DAI's combat engine is fundamentally broken and I can never forgive that. There's a medium-sized radius from your target that combat is allowed, and leaving that area breaks targetting. For large enemies like dragons and such, this means that tactics like "attack enemy from one side with a mage, and the other side with an archer, while it is engaged in the middle with a melee dude" is impossible because you're constantly hitting the targetting radius and having attacks and abilities interrupted. (As I recall, the AI will literally run back to you when this happens--all of its orders are reset.) It's completely borked.

Oh, I just assumed KYM was some kind of joke website. It's actually pretty interesting.

Hooray, meme archaeology!
Another Mass Effect with no Salarian crew member

straight into the trash

I just want Wrex back... that's all.

This time they're the pilot! And I imagine they'll be pretty plot relevant since they got one of the 4 big ships along with HUmans Asari and Turians (putting them ahead of Krogans, Quarians, Elcor, Hanar, Batarians, Drell, etc)

I totally could see the mainstream appeal, if this thing wasn't super bare bones.
It doesn't even have an internet browser. I mean...how.
This could easily be seen as a decent tablet that you can also use to play Nintendo games. If that thing a browser, netflix, youtube, a media player etc. I would probably buy it just because I want to buy a tablet anyway.

The 3DS launched without an eshop and these three stellar first party efforts:

Nintendogs + Cats
Pilot Wings Resort
Steel Diver

Yeah, but it got like one other game in the next 8 months

iPhone launched without an app store too.
How will they ever recover from this blunder???

Can't tell if this is a joke or not
