Whoa whoa, where did you hear that he was hospitalized? I only heard about the usual rumors about hand pain, back pain and having no assistants (though the last one was just busted, it's possible he didn't have any until recently).

I mean I guess I understand why this series pales in comparison. The director and team that worked on the original Hunter X Hunter TV also did the Kenshin OVAs. And everyone knows how amazing those are.

It was only a short stay at hospital, it was in an interview he gave, when I have more reliable internet ill dig it out.

You hate anything when the MC loses, no matter what the circumstances. I guess that's why you like FT so much. :p

Well protagonists should win, and after Episode 35 (Gon v Hisoka)...Im starting to really dislike Gon :(

On episode 35
Gon is supposed to be winning. How in the world does one spend four months training, and even learning Hatsu and Nen and still take all those hits from Hisoka. Gon should be destroying Hisoka. This doesnt make sense. Sure he landed a hit by throwing a floor tile but the second he stepped into the ring he should have sent Hisoka flying. Im so glad they dont make Killua lose though.

There's a pretty good reason for it, quite honestly.

You should be glad that he managed to land a clean hit on someone as overpowered as Hisoka.
Another thing is that you're overstimating what they learnt of nen in that couple of months. Gon and Killua have still a veeeery long way to even stand a chance in a nen fight against an expert of nen; remember, they just "passed the hidden hunter exam".

Oh, but Gon can now make water overflow from a cup. It even cracked the glass a little! What dreadful power.

I don't envy Killua's enemies as he sweetens them to death.

It's still early in the anime so they haven't shown how much of a monster Hisoka truly is in terms of power. Like someone said earlier, it's a miracle Gon was able to even get one hit in. As the series goes on, it'll become evident how strong Hisoka really is... He's easily one the top 3 strongest people in the entire series.

Are you being serious? Hisoka has been in the game for years. Gon just learned this stuff. Did you not see the last fight with Kastro? Gon wouldn't even have beaten him. And Hisoka trolled him hard.

They also really overplayed Gon's ability here.

Gon's still a little kid here. His ability right now is hitting things hard. He's not the nen powerhouse he'd need to be to stand up to Hisoka.

Manga
Hell I doubt he could fight and beat Hisoka all this time later. He'd put up a good fight this time though.

Ah yes, the mysterious illness rumor. When a series goes on hiatus usually the magazine provides a reason. When HxH went on that really long hiatus in 2006 the reason was Togashi was sick. But since then, no reasons have been given for his hiatuses. The illness thing is just speculation.

It's far more believable IMO that Togashi just doesn't care that much about continuing HxH. He and his wife have lots of money, they don't need to work any more.

If that was the case, he wouldn't have started a new arc. He a pretty good opportunity too finish the series up the last arc.

Protagonists shouldn't always win like you think they should. It's boring and predictable and takes any tension out of a fight since you already know what's going to happen. Imagine if Ichigo never lost against Grimmjow and straight up beat him first time. Or if Luffy just beat Crocodile during their first meeting. It wouldn't make sense.

So basically... You don't like the fact that Gon (Who's a kid and just learnt Nen), isn't outright beating Hisoka (One of strongest people IN THE WORLD). Sometimes I think you should just stick to Fairy Tale, things like HxH is too out of your depth.

Plus the fight's not even over yet...

SJ probably wants him to continue, or they would've cancelled the series a long time ago. Togashi doesn't really seem to care.

Well with Heaven's Arena done, I think thus far I would put it as my favorite arc thus far. Really did like nen as well as the fights, with Killua v the electricity dude as a favorite fight, follow by Gon v gido and even gon and hisoka. I cant wait to see how much more developed nen gets over time and what Killua has in store. I also hope Zushi returns, Osu!

Episode 37
tumblr_m6h03nwTdD1rszpoio1_500.gif

Good episode when focused on Killua and Gon, and their friendship chat. Kind of dull at other moments, though alll that nen insignia on stuff, makes it seem nen has deep roots somewhere.

Ep 38

It is so odd to see videogames and laptops and auction sites in this anime, or for some reason to me. And then having explanations of what an indie game is, Killua really knows his videogames and then getting mad at the developer too.

But all it really made me do was just wonder who or what in the world is Greed Island, especially if its worth so much, and what brother is doing, and Baterra?

Preview:
I hope Kurapika knows nen stuff now and will actually rise to Killua's level, hopefully stuff gets intense fast now that weve had three cool down episodes

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"

There's no evidence of this at all ever.

See this is the kind of thing I hate.
Introducing the bodyguards like this pisses me off. It shouldn't but it does. There was no reason to connect Kurapika and the bucktooth like that. And then they reveled that one woman's ability and they are just going to do it again next week(most likely).

Whoever on the staff is doing these huntercyclopedia segments is definitely pretty awesome. They never fail to deliver the good moments.

Can't wait to see how they all escape the mansion, I already imagine that the lady wont make it, she was cowering behind the butler, and I cant imagine her 180second love kiss to work on hooded assassins. Actually everyone but Kurapika look like fodder characters, so...

Conjurer seems pretty cool but limiting unless he can conjure nen beam blasts and explosions? And have we encountered these illusive specialists yet?

Amazing episode. They pulled it off perfectly... for those earlier who were worried about the censorship, try watching it more. :)

Yeah people that stopped watching because of censorship and pacing and other things should be comfortable starting again starting from episode 43. It's noticeably better.

Yeah, there was a significant improvement. I can bear it a lot more now. I've still been following the HD version of HxH in hopes that it would get better, and I hope it only improves from here.

Well since the Phantom Troupe got involved it seems the people making the anime definitely wanted to show just how brutal the characters are.
Blazing bullets and making pools of blood, decapitating people with the flying head, the biting of the dudes skull as well as the skull piece through the hand and head to showing the visible hole in his head, was pretty intense

Cant wait to see if Kurapika has other new abilities
the soul chain thing this episode was nice
to make him in Killua's league for nen and strength as we go on with this arc...

Crossposting because it's necessary.

You hear that? That's the sound of any worry about the Chimera Ant arc being flushed down the toilet. The censorship is completely gone, the animation has ramped up, the soundtrack got a lot better, and it's all happening in one of the best arcs in the series.

I will repeat what I said before. For those that were iffy on it based on the beginning, now is the time to jump on the HxH bandwagon!

I never watched the original series or read the manga. This is my only exposure to HxH and I must say that the last two episodes have been insane! LOVE IT. Here's hoping they keep it up. Watching someone
get half their head bitten off
was really satisfying in that it actually made me say holy shit out loud. Looks like it's geared towards the older crowd now.

I wonder if this is gonna get licensed. Hope Funi picks it up because while the old one is okay, I'd like to add this to my collection.

Yeah, this story arc is darker than the previous two (three?) arcs, and on top of that, it's not being censored. There were some pretty gruesome moments in the Hunter Exam, but the new anime didn't show them explicitly.

Killua's league? Kurapica is way past Killua right now. Mind you, none of the main cast minus Kurapica can currently hold their own against even one member of the Phantom Brigade.

Hey, how is the Chimera Ant arc anyway, and how does it compare to the auction arc?

Kind of hard to say because it lasted something like 10 years since Togashi was ALWAYS on hiatus. I would say it's pretty inconsistent, but had some very high highs and an absolutely insane finale.

Think I like the auction arc a bit more though.

It's good and bad. The villains are a real threat and the stakes are pretty high. Our two heroes get quite a bit of time on screen and do a lot, some inventive usage of powers, and it's pretty intense. On the other hand, there's a lot of talking to an almost needless degree, main villains can be a bit ymmv, it feels like it took a page out of the shounen book of making stuff super powerful, etc.

Compared to the auction arc, it has more interesting things and neat elements but it isn't nearly as well-constructed or as gripping. In a lot of regards the Chimera Ants would be more typical shounen while the auction arc is adventure/thriller/suspense/whatever.

Alright cool, hopefully the anime will do it justice, and maybe even iron out some of its kinks.

Thanks for the info Shouta. Man, I remember seeing the auction arc back in the original series and being blown away by it's high quality. It's too bad none of the arcs that come after aren't really comparable to the auction arc, and Greed Island was thoroughly unimpressive to me, although maybe I ought to give it another chance.

Just caught up with the last few episodes.

That seems to be a ridiculously dark turn. I don't remember anything being nearly as brutal in the first adaptation, though it's been quite a while since I've watched it.

I think it kind of feels darker, since the first episodes of this and the coloring made it seem to me all lighthearted and fun of a series then just the music style and the events completely caught me off guard and makes it feel all grim and dark.

The first adaptation was arguably darker.
In tone, and it didn't really "censor" what was going on, but the new anime is putting a lot more of that non-censorship actually on screen, if that makes any sense. So it might look more gruesome than the old anime, despite having brighter colors.

First series generally doesn't censor much at all but doesn't go into the gorey details. 44 is Uvogin vs The 4 Shadow Beasts, right? It happens more or less similar. The 2011 version shows the gruesome details a little more though censoring it just a tad while the 1999 version does it from different angles and rather than focus on the details, it just happens

2011 version just happens to show a shot or two of it more comparatively. This is kind of the opposite of the Jones scene during the Hunter Exam where the 1999 version doesn't really censor it at all and I think the 2011 does a bit more.

For me, Ep 44 was still better than the older version just because of it being in HD and widescreen. The picture quality immerses me a bit more.
