Portland (OR) |OT|

This is a work in progress, I think a good thread on a city is always like that though. People find great places or unique holes in the wall and it's best to share them. (Gonna add some great pics I got from xxracerxx too.) If you have stuff to add feel free to pm me or post them, also notify me of any broken links =).

COMEDY CLUBS/EVENTS *thanks Bobby*
Down to Funny - happens monthly at the East Burn.
Weekly Recurring Comedy Night - Whitney Streed's showcase at the Tonic Lounge
Funnier on the Inside - TARDIS Room just started their own monthly showcase
No Joke - Not as regular as it used to be. Now at the Fixin' To
Portland as Fuck - Ian Karmel's showcase (not too many of these left) at the Hawthorne Theatre
Tristian Spillman hosts a night at the Bagdad every week (first time I saw Anthony was at one of those showcases)
Down & Dirty Comedy - Patrick Perkins hosts this at the Ash Street every month. Bit of a sicker/more twisted focus.
Funny Over Everything - Not every month, but when it does hit, it's guaranteed gold. Hollywood Theatre.
No Pun Intendo - monthly at Ground Kontrol.

Bicycling

889TE.jpg

Portland, OR might be one of the friendliest/convenient bicycling communities in the country outside of a few others. There are a plethora of bike paths for the road/mountain biking communities, not too mention a bunch of bike parking (see the bike corral image above). Sure the weather is not always the driest but that doesn't stop most people from getting on their bike and riding for pleasure/commute/exercise. Below find a map of the best routes to take while on your bicycle here.

Public Transportation

MbYbF.jpg

Trimet as well as the Portland Street Car (map not included) offers you easy ways to get around the city either by Max train, Streetcar, or bus. And what is also great, is each of these options allow you to put your bike on in one way or another in case you are too tired (or in most cases drunk).

Damn! I was hoping this OT wouldn't have included the Oregon part so I could talk about Portland, Texas!

I vote Portland |OR| as the thread title.

Been here five years myself. Love it to death. Great place to raise kids, which is why I came here from SF.

Nice to see a thread like this. Subscribed for future references. I hope to go there within a year. Need mah vegan paradise experience once.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Subscribed. Glad I could help.

So happy to see so many Portlanders on this forum!

EDIT: Portland (OR) |OT| *insert tired Portlandia reference here*

Should add the vegan strip club Casa Diablo (NW Industrial) to the list. That place is straight up crazy and they get away with so much shit on stage that it blows my mind. Not too mention the fact that they only give $2 bills back for change and the ATM there asks you if you want $1,000 / $800 / $600 ? Or Denominations of $50.

I got my first lapdance there from a girl with a green mohawk and a triforce tattoo. it was magical.

I still think Sassy's is the best strip club in town and I don't even like strip clubs. Sassy's is just a bar that happens to have strippers.

More Portland folks here than I suspected.... though I am a Eugenian myself. Being Portland's little brother of sorts, we should talk about that, too.

I was in school there for 5 years and there is not that much to talk about. Some nice hikes and of course all the University stuff like Hayward Field and the like.

Oh how I miss you Portland. Denver isn't a bad place either though.

Oh and Go Beavs. Humble born in fan here.

List some vegan stuff, too. I feel like this is the vegan capital of America.

Sweetpea, Herbivore, Scapegoat Tattoo, and Food Fight grocery all in one little mini mall.

Portobello, Natural Selection, Blossoming Lotus, and a few others for fancy vegan meals.

Bye & Bye and Sweet Hereafter are vegan bars.

Pretty much every good restaurant that isn't a dumb foodie tourist thing has vegan stuff on the menu. Vita Cafe, Jam, Sizzle Pie, Dot's, Los Gorditos, Vegetarian House (all vegan Chinese buffet!), DC Vegetarian, etc.

Oh Portland. The biggest little city in the world. So much to do in such a small place.

That being said, I hate living here. Can't wait to move. California, Arizona or Canada for me.

Will do. Also any great places for activities when you guys know they have deal days would be great. Like bowling, skee-ball in some bars, etc. I forgot the place but there is even one bar on Hawthorne or Burnside that has weird nest like chairs.

East Burn on 18th and E Burnside. Has a great Tuesday special, $2 pints for any of the 10+ beers they have on tap that constantly rotates (and it isn't shit like Pabsts, but actually great locally-ish brewed beer).

I used to go there every week after work on Tuesday and drink until 10 and my bar tab would be $18 (that is 9 beers!).
